Exit Sandman

How will history remember the Curtis Sanford era? And a Goalie Named Tsue, we hardly knew you.
The Blues on Monday decided goalie Jason Bacashihua will be the backup come training camp and Chris Beckford-Tseu needed playing time in a different organization. Neither was tendered a contract. Injuries were ultimately the undoing of Sanford as the crystaline-like goaltender could simply not stay healthy at a time when the Blues were looking for a rock-solid netminder to take charge. When not on the injured list, Sanford showed promise, even rejecting a guaranteed contract last year and gambling that he could push Legace for the starting job. Hard to do that in street clothes and limping.

Sanford has to be kicking himself for not signing a 3-year deal last year as he basically played himself out of a job (and a contract) this season.
He never looked to be a great starter, but more of a solid backup. Too bad the organization is chock-full of capable backups at this point…

I respect a player who takes a risk and banks on his talent during a contract year, but Mr. Glass Groin should have known better. I think Sanford has the tools to be a good backup goalie and compete for starting minutes….if he could EVER stay healthy. Of all the goalies who have manned the crease the last five years, he’s the most positionally sound of all of them. He is square to the puck almost every shot. And then after the shot, he coasts to the bench holding the inside of his leg.
