An Idea For This FanPost Thing That May Or May Not Be Ignored

Hey gang!

It is I, your resident Donut King. Do not bow before me. You are all worthy.

Star-divide

Anyway, I'm intrigued by this FanPost feature that our friends at SBNation have provided for St. Louis Game Time v3.5 (or whatever it is at this point).

I had an idea that could probably be looked into during the offseason but would probably not be such a good idea right now. I'm sure it's been thought of before, but . . . I'm putting pen to pad, so to say. And it's just an idea, and as my subject suggests, it does not have to be followed (Hell, why would I care? I'm not a staff member!).

Every week or month or so, someone from either the GT staff (or the esteemed membership) picks a topic that we all can expound on - i.e. best Stanley Cup memories favorite Blues game you've attended, best fight you've seen in person, stories on who you think the biggest douchebag to ever don a Blues uniform was, etc. etc. Then all of us "peons" shuttle over here to the FanPost area and share our story on said topic, if we have one. If Gallagher and/or the gang find one story particularly intriguing, they'll put it on the main blog if they so choose.

Now, none of this would take away from the FanPost "forum" to post newsbits that the GT crew hasn't quite posted yet or any other random shit we come up with that no one else has spoken on. But it could be some extra extraneous verbiage that we could all share with each other that allows us to gauge what kind of fan each of us is.

What do you all think? I'm sure this was something that was kicked around by SOMEONE in here, right?

And yes, this was partly an excuse for me to figure out "how blogging works". I'm such a lush for learning.

I think this is a great idea, DK, and the main reason this FanPost feature even exists. Last summer, we ran a recurring feature called, ‘How I Became A Blues Fan.’ A lot of the GT writers contributed their stories, but plenty of other stories spilled out in the comments.

The ability to promote these FanPosts onto the main page makes it easy for you guys to start something like that and have it become a feature. I’d love to see it happen.

Most of you are pretty funny and eloquent anyway. Why not start something like that and see what happens?

one feature that might be helpful for this

members of the blog can ‘rec’ (recommend) fanposts & fanshots. when a fanpost or fanshot gets enough recs (this is a setting the blog managers can change) they will be displayed in a special recommended list on the sidebar. that list isn’t visible right now because nothing has been recommended enough, but if a bunch of you click that ‘rec’ link (next to the little icon w/ an up green arrow) in the list of buttons between the post & comments you can rec your first fanpost in this community.

might be a good way of having the community help select what makes the front page for each subject y’all write about.

btw, this community is awesome.

I was trying to figure out what “recs” meant.

You da man, DK.

I was scoping out the Leafs fansite and scraped across a “Leaf of the Week” thingy (some dude scanned the front and back of his old hockey cards and posted them) that was sort of like the “Remember Me?” from GT. Maybe those “Remember Me?” features could be re-posted after games as fanposts to allow people to comment on their memories of former players of the organ-I-zation. Plus, Mrs. Milo is becoming weary of my tired old stories.

Let's go Blues!!!

Keystone Lake Zamboni falls through thin ice

A Zamboni took a dip in North America's largest groomed skating pond at Keystone Resort tonight.
A driver was grooming the lake at about 6:15 p.m., when the ice cracked and the 7,000-pound machine began to sink at about 6:15 p.m. As a precaution, skaters were cleared from another area of the 5-acre pond, resort spokesman Ryan Whaley said. The driver was not injured.
There was no word immediately on how soon the rink might re-open, but staff will examine the ice and remove the Zamboni Wednesday, Whaley said.
"They'll take it out and we'll see how it is," Whaley said of the machine and the safety of the ice around the crater.
With a lake that large, other areas could reopen immediately, he said.

Once it dries out, the machine is likely salvageable, he said.
Kenneth Waesche snapped a photo of the sunken ice machine when he stopped by Lakeside Village for a pickup game of hockey. His wife planned to do some skating.
Waesche said that the "thin ice" sign in the foreground of the photo was some distance away from where the Zamboni went in.
The lake is typically open from Dec. 18 to March. 28 depending on the weather, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
