Transaction Friday
The Blues announced this afternoon that they acquired Jonathan Filewich from the Pittsburgh Penguins for a 6th round selection in the 2010 Entry Draft.

Filewich, 24, will be assigned to Peoria for the time being. Filewich has struggled in the AHL over the last two years, but the former 3rd round pick did have 22 and 30 goal seasons in his first two AHL seasons after a solid junior career in the WHL.
In unrelated news, the Blues have reassigned Ben Bishop, Jonas Junland and Cam Paddock to Peoria.

OK ..
so one of my favorite movies is “The Big Red One” (a WWII flick with Lee Marvin, not a porno). There is a key group of guys in this unit that never so much as gets a scratch on any of them. There is a scene where one of the regulars is approached by one of the replacement guys. The regular guy asks who he is and the guy replies, “You know, I’m Johnson”. At that point, the narration (being done from the diary of the same regular guy) says, “I never bothered to get to know the replacements because they were usually not around for very long.”
Not taking anything away from the prospects who are working their asses off to try to make an NHL career, but I’m beginning to feel that way about these call-ups and any trade involving a guy, “who may someday wear the Blue Note.”
Let's go Blues!!!
Thanks for posting pretty much my entire article for tonight’s print edition, boss… ;-D
