the stempniak trade after 15 games

Looks like a change of scenery hasnt done much to improve Lee Snakebitniak's luck when it comes to putting the puck into a wide open net.

"It's Frustrating." sound familiar?

Stemps has 1 goal and 5 assists in 14 games with the leafs
Alexander Steen has 1 goal and 6 assists in 15 games with the note, so head to head the two forwards exchanged in the deal look pretty even. However, when you throw in Cola and his 1 goal and 5 assists after 15 games played this deal is looking pretty lopsided in the blues' favor.  Stempniak is playing at at +1 right now, -2 on the entire season, while Cola is sitting at a -3 with the blues and -5 on the season.  Steen is a surprising +2 with the blues though he is sitting at a -2 on the year.

Thoughts?

I'm a Stempniak fan and always will be...

…but I thought when this trade was made that the Blues got the better end of the deal, and I’m even more convinced of that now.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Colaicovo stays healthy, because if he does, he’s the physical and puck-moving d-man the Blues need.

I really like Steen on the Powerplay, he has earned alot of special teams minutes because he’s moving the puck well. Dracola is also a presence on the blueline, and if Johnson was in the lineup this season, we might have had two decent puck-moving d-men.

As far as who won this trade?

I honestly can say that I really like both of these guys in St. Louis, I think they’ll fit well. I also don’t think either of these players will be anything more than depth guys, where as Stempniak could develop into a 30-35 goal forward for the Leafs. By the looks of it now, however, it looks like we got the better end of the deal.

I jumped over to Pension Plan to see what the TML side was thinking of Stempniak…but I couldn’t find any posts on the topic. I figured judgment would come swiftly for an underachieving player in Toronto, but maybe the jury is still out on this guy?

Well, Lee just scored a goal tonight against the Isles, so that will help.

In other former Blues news …. NJD Bryce Salvador took a puck to the face, and will be out for a while.

Always liked Salvador. Hope he turns out OK. Any foreign object to the face (i.e. MacInnis) is nothing to sneeze at.

Wilson's doghose

Stempniak was at least briefly in Wilson’s doghouse.

My sense is Leafs fans will give him more time, because at least he hustles and plays a smart game.

I thought (and still think) it was a fair deal for both sides, but I like it better for the Blues because of Cola. I like Stempniak, but I’ve always had the feeling things have to be breaking just right for him to put up “top six” forward production.

I’ve basically thought of Steen and Stempniak as at the same skill level, completely baffled at the fact that Colaiacovo was thrown into the deal for free

Ther's stealing in Hockey ?

As it stands right now, IMO , The BLUES seem to have severed ties with Stempy’s over-priced ass at just the right time … … early enough to sell him as a “good young player” based on past seasons … and quick enough for the Leaf’s not to know what hit them.

I hope Stempy turns out to be great … but right now he cost too much to wait for him to develop
