Blues Vs Blue Jackets Open/Live Thread

By Brad Lee
1. Things are so out of wack with the Web site being down that the Blues game on Center Ice has been accidentally blacked out, Matt Walker has actually scored a goal and cats and dogs are now living together.
2. We had planned a triumphant return of the live blog for this game as a welcome back to the site, but then the site screwed up again...and I can't see ethe game to blog it. So the whole thing is a cluster fuck.
3. We missed you, valued readers, those willing to join in the reinddeer games and those who read quietly and choose to remain anonymous.
If the cable/satellite companies figure out how to get the game on, we'll start blogging away. Otherwise, start filling up the comments with your reactions as you listen along.

nice to see you guys up and running.
Damn, nASH ties it. How sweet would it have been for Walker’s goal to be a game-winner?
by Tim on Feb 17, 2008 5:38 PM CST reply actions
Tim, he’ll just have to score another one.
Ok, I can’t even type that with a straight face. Tim, are you the same Tim on stltoday?

I can see it now, the next Game Time, “Blues Record When …” Walker scores, 1-0-0
by Tim on Feb 17, 2008 5:42 PM CST reply actions
Also, Walker now has the hard part of a Gordie Howe Hat Trick out of the way….

Bernie makes it sound as if that goal was all Perrons fault, anyone seeing it?

I was thinking that when I heard the goal scored; I figured that somehow there would be some way for Andy Murray to blame it on Perron, and bench him for the rest of the game.

OK, Koharski making a mistake, I can believe. Him ADMITTING one ??? That’s too far beyond my ability to imagine. How the hell does this work?
by Tim on Feb 17, 2008 6:06 PM CST reply actions
What the bloody hell is going on here?
Koharski “made a mistake” on the penalty call?
Jesus…
Bettman would never tolerate this if it was happening to his little favorites in Detroit or Ottawa or Jersey.

by GT Prospect Department on Feb 17, 2008 6:07 PM CST reply actions
Oh, crap… Perron scored. Now Murray will bench him for the next three games for sure, to “teach him a lesson” that there’s more to this game than being able to score goals.

Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto…
Three assists tonight for Eric “Kiss My Shiny Metal Ass” Brewer.
Heh… Legace picks up an assist too.

matt walker first ever goal, legace first point of the year, kt back on wing. wow

Walker gets a goal. Legace gets an assist. The whole world really is upside down. Next thing you know DJ King will give up eating puppies.

Hey, here’s a question that I don’t know if has ever been asked…
Is Eric Brewer any relation to former Leafs great Carl Brewer?
Just wonderin’…

Hah… Malhotra, you suck now, you’ve always sucked, and you always will suck.
Talk about over-rated…
And Jason Chimera STILL wants absolutely no part of David “Jim” Backes.

Well, it is kinda strange that Backes calls him Lovey.

Hey, they have Big Country in the between-periods interview.
I hope they can find a way to keep him and get him inb the lineup more often. I’ve always liked that kid.

The first thing that would take is to trade a vet d-man. If they keep getting points, who’s to say they’re still gonna be sellers.

If we want it to be true on wikipedia, we can just go change it.

Great, penalty right off the bat. Is it time for the refs to even it up?
by Pagan on Feb 17, 2008 6:57 PM CST reply actions
Pagan, I think it’s hard to say anything not being able to see the game because of the accidental blackout. Also, I think everyone is just dreading a possible let down in this game. Hopefully it’s not happening…but I won’t rule it out.
by Brad Lee on Feb 17, 2008 7:11 PM CST reply actions
So this is what a three goal lead feels like.
Huh.
Thats novel.
by Rich Horton on Feb 17, 2008 7:12 PM CST reply actions

Don’t even think about it. After last night the NHL owe the Blues for the next couple weeks.

The site not being up really sucked last night. The wife did not want to hear my bitching about Mick McGeough.

Brewer has a four point night.
Captain my captain!!!
And you assholes get tacos tomorrow!!!
by Rich Horton on Feb 17, 2008 7:17 PM CST reply actions
Holy shit, I can’t believe the Blues have three power play goals tonight (pending review). Haven’t done it at all this season.
Also, Brewer four assists? End times draw near.
by Brad Lee on Feb 17, 2008 7:17 PM CST reply actions
Tomorrow’s a holiday, so everyone will be able to go to the Scottrade for their free taco.
I just feel sorry for the cooks at the Scottrade who thought tomorrow was going to be a day off.

God, I hope people give their ticket stubs to the homeless after the game.
by Brad Lee on Feb 17, 2008 7:19 PM CST reply actions
You would really give the homeless Taco Bell?? Haven’t they suffered enough?
by Rich Horton on Feb 17, 2008 7:20 PM CST reply actions
Savvis Center tacos – you know, They go inside and get them so the mayor doesn’t have to ackowledge the homeless exist.
by Pagan on Feb 17, 2008 7:22 PM CST reply actions
1. It’s not Taco Bell, it’s a DrinkScotch taco.
2. I think it would be funny if everyone did it and the whole crowd getting tacos was homeless.
3. If Barret Jackman hurts himself and ruins his trade value in a fight, that would suck.
by Brad Lee on Feb 17, 2008 7:22 PM CST reply actions
“It’s not Taco Bell, it’s a DrinkScotch taco.”

by Rich Horton on Feb 17, 2008 7:24 PM CST reply actions

B.
by GT Prospect Department on Feb 17, 2008 7:26 PM CST reply actions
Rich, I’m not sure. As we’ve written on here before it was cool that fans would chant we want tacos…knowing that there was no taco promotion. Taco Bell was not willing to come back and do the promotion again because they got too much business on 35-cent taco days. Apparently Checketts said, “These people want their tacos, lets give them their tacos.” But who is going to come back downtown for one free taco and then 99-cent tacos the next day? It’s kind of silly.
by Brad Lee on Feb 17, 2008 7:27 PM CST reply actions
Career highs in points and assists per game for Mr. Roboto…
It just figures, the best game the Blues play in weeks, and it’s the one that’s not televised anywhere… grr…
B.
by GT Prospect Department on Feb 17, 2008 7:29 PM CST reply actions
It’s a new policy, since fans want to see Perron play, they’re blacking out any home game in which he plays so they can sell more tickets.

THAT was their beef; that they got “too much” business?
Yeah, I’ll bet that it just KILLED Yum! Brands’ profit margin, selling three times as many tacos at 35 cents (which cost them maybe a dime each to produce) in ONE market.
Friggin’ corporate assholes.
B.
by GT Prospect Department on Feb 17, 2008 7:32 PM CST reply actions
Someone tell Taco Bell I’ve moved out of town. I’m no longer ordering 30 tacos at a time.
by Rich Horton on Feb 17, 2008 7:33 PM CST reply actions
Crap. Got tied up with some stuff (still on-going) and haven’t been able to listen to the game or post here.
My son worked at Taco Bell when they had those promotions, and he said it was a nightmare. I can’t remember the numbers, but I think they had to make like 5x or more the normal number of tacos on 35-cent day.

Colorado loses, we beat Columbus … good night of hockey.
by Tim on Feb 17, 2008 7:35 PM CST reply actions
If I remember it wasn’t the volume of business itself, it was the employees quiting rather than work on those frenzied days.
by Pagan on Feb 17, 2008 7:36 PM CST reply actions
The problem Taco Bell had was the, um, high rate of employee call-ins on 35-cent taco days. The mad rush for tacos, coupled with the low-stress-tolerance of minimum-wage workers, left a ….. um, … bad taste in the mouths of local TB franchisees. Or, that’s what I heard, anyway.
by Tim on Feb 17, 2008 7:39 PM CST reply actions
The Blues are three points out of the playoffs.
That’s unbelievable.
by Brad Lee on Feb 17, 2008 7:41 PM CST reply actions
Can you believe Chase? “I’m sure we’re going to have a whole lot of Eric Brewer knockers again tonight.”
So we’re so petty as to complain when a guy has a four-point game? I thought we were just being critical when it was deserved, but apperantly Brewer has never desreved it.
by Pagan on Feb 17, 2008 7:45 PM CST reply actions
Eric Brewer Knockers…where can i get a set of those?
by Mingha on Feb 17, 2008 7:47 PM CST reply actions

the world’s gone mad!
-GT’s non-prited voice goes silent for a week
-Blues destroyed Leclaire for once
-Walker finally got his first goal
-Blues are actually back in striking distance of a playoff spot
-Jackman got in a fight that didn’t result in his jaw being reinjured
-Towel Boy’s goal-counting celebration got delayed by Jackman’s fight
-Rucinsky didn’t get a penalty
-supposedly the game sold out without a free food promotion or retirement ceremony
-I finally came across a homeless person to give my “free taco” ticket stub to before the time-limit expired
play Beckford-Tseu against Chicago Tuesday dammit! the man deserves a very overdue opportunity to play an NHL game.

Most fun I’ve had at a game all year. The Blues totally dominated the game. The only time the BJs got a sniff was when Nash did some outrageous cherry-picking while short-handed. On a happier note, Brewer tossed the puck right past Nash at center ice on McDonald’s goal.
Manny starts every game from here on out unless he takes himself out of the lineup for some reason. Nobody’s got any confidence in the backups.

The BJ goal wouldn’t have happened if nASH hadn’t been cherry-picking. What the hell is he doing waiting at center ice while your team is down a man? The ice also helped… puck bounces over sticks through legs… to a guy willing to leave his team 2 men down… of course, it may be that the Blues PP sucks so badly that he figured it wouldn’t hurt.
WRONG!
Seriously, you know your team is fucked when… Matt Walker scores the first goal of the game… and not into an empty net.

chase on brewer and us knockers.
chase said (paraprasing) best game ever by brewer- true dat
eric playing with more and more confidence and starting to dominate a few games— true dat
so the knock? why didnt he do that 200 games agao and why did the blues pay him for NOT doing it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
arrgghhh
chaser complaining about oshie and bergland being penciled in by fans next season ,merely to contribute (oh you gotta wait until they do it etc) sits there and is bubbly with the blues NOT doing that with brewer. go figure…
paying people who have not performed, or anticipating performance and paying for that, is a dangerous thing to do. a team that is too afraid of getting top dallar in the free agent and would rather overpay an underperforming current member is a team not loooking to go anywhere
if brewer maintains this level though, he will become a great blue. and if giving him the “c” was all it took, shame on murray for waiting this long.
and i would also like to point out two even more strange things
1) bryce hasnt been there for brewer the last two games
2) the blues d has actually played transition and OFFENSE the last two games.
so brewer’s success is even more masterful

agreed. Murray probably threatened to goblin-grenade Jay McKee unless he pinched in on offense and take some shots, and he has been….and not badly either
