Blues Vs. Stars Open Thread

By Brad Lee
Ladies and gentlemen, it's been a long day. I personally saw probably seven hours of the nine hours of Tradecentre 08 on TSN (via NHL Network).
Between the blog posts the cover story for the paper, a couple of top 11 lists and a remember me, I'm pretty much out of words today. I emptied the tank of words.
So we'll leave this post up for any in-game observations/snarky comments and any post game huzzahs/ bah humbugs. Whatever.
See you later, figure skaters.

Does anyone know if our new Blue is going to be in the line up tonight? The AMC is on their way over to the Answer House. We have 70 minutes until game time. Plenty of time to get in a 5K and a pull up contest. All of us are pretty stoked and will be shirtless in no time.

hard to say. he was told he was traded after the morning skate. he’d have to pack up his shit, book a flight, transport to the airport/from the airport, meet with JD/Andy Murray to go over the Code/team stragegies/game plan, and pick up his jersey (if it’s finished) #25 is available so there won’t be any dispute on #’s.
travelling from the east coast to the heartland, he gains an extra hour, so it’s possible he’d be ready for the game, but it’s still a lot to accomplish. we’ll see.

yep, Fox Sports guy said “maybe we’ll see him in the lineup Thursday”

i need to test my blood sugar
i will say this, if i had forgotten to before.
the blues now own one of my 3 least favorite players in the history of hockey. they mad him number 1 just by acquiring him, if i EVER see cam, in the note, attempt to injure someone i will quit hockey.
period.

a going-to-commercial shot of the Blues locker room. Stastny is dressed
by Dooks on Feb 26, 2008 7:27 PM CST reply actions
Thank God Center Ice is the Blues telecast. Wasnt looking forward to the Dallas announcers talking about how cool the Stars are and not even following the game.
by Scot C on Feb 26, 2008 7:34 PM CST reply actions
Turco is starting, and Smith and Holmqvist are in transit, so this must mean Tobias Stephan is on the bench for Dallas.
by Dooks on Feb 26, 2008 7:41 PM CST reply actions
what do you know, a Blues PP goal just minutes into the game
by Dooks on Feb 26, 2008 7:41 PM CST reply actions
Holy crap!!! Now that’s how you start it off Boy(e)s
by Johnny Stats on Feb 26, 2008 7:42 PM CST reply actions
“put the monster away”- That’s what she said. ZING!
Good 5k and we did mad pull ups. Half of us are shirtless and showing some thigh

somehow Modano hit the safty netting from the hashmarks with a wide open net. old age must be getting to him
by Dooks on Feb 26, 2008 7:43 PM CST reply actions
Do they really have to label what is the bench and what is the game?
by Scot C on Feb 26, 2008 7:51 PM CST reply actions
weird. Wamsley runs the defense, huh? thought that was Shaw’s job.
by Dooks on Feb 26, 2008 7:53 PM CST reply actions
Hmmm…it seems E. Johnson is pretty damn good.

Stasny Boyes King
A line I’d never believed could happen during the regular season.
by Rich Horton on Feb 26, 2008 8:02 PM CST reply actions
“I’d never believed”
Me fail English? That’s unpossible!
by Rich Horton on Feb 26, 2008 8:03 PM CST reply actions
oh shit, I forgot about Stastny having #25. I guess Janssen WILL have to pick another number
by Dooks on Feb 26, 2008 8:11 PM CST reply actions
Hey Trauma. How can you hate Janssen more than Tootoo, McCarty, Maltby, Draper, Owen Nolan, Ricci amd Rathje? Hard to believe.
by Heather on Feb 26, 2008 8:11 PM CST reply actions
How didnt winchester get a penalty or two there?
by Rich Horton on Feb 26, 2008 8:12 PM CST reply actions
R.Johnson, McClement & Mayers. a line of 3 centers. Murray must be senile
by Dooks on Feb 26, 2008 8:14 PM CST reply actions
What about Brian Marchment — the knee breaking bastard!@
by Pagan on Feb 26, 2008 8:16 PM CST reply actions
if Rucinsky wasn’t such a nerd and traded in his 62 for 26 when Cajanek was vanquished, Stastny would have his dad’s number and Janssen would have an unoccupied 25.
okay I’m done rambling on about jersey numbers
by Dooks on Feb 26, 2008 8:20 PM CST reply actions
Apparently Perron isn’t being the best guy in the locker room.
by stlchapman on Feb 26, 2008 8:22 PM CST reply actions
What’s that supposed to mean about Perron? I’ve heard allegations about hsi attitude but nothing specific. Has anyone heard anything specific?
by Pagan on Feb 26, 2008 8:24 PM CST reply actions
the FSMW sound guy needs to be fired. why are the commercials louder than the program? and every other channel is louder than that?
by Dooks on Feb 26, 2008 8:25 PM CST reply actions
Perron’s attitude isn’t quite in-line with an NHL lifestyle yet. Which means he half-asses it in practice.
“I mean, we talkin’ bout practice. Not a game, but practice.”
by stlchapman on Feb 26, 2008 8:28 PM CST reply actions
cos he is now a blues. tootoo certainly used to be higher, but the blues got him wearing my jersey, traded down to do it, going to gut d j king to put him on the ice, and ebveryone knows why. how can you hate tootoo less than cam? tootoo is on an idiot team. cam is on the blues!
as i said, this is it if cam does something in my jersey.
this is just like the big mac crap. cheer chear cheer. what? he might be cheating? boo!
you know it BEFORE cam steps on blues ice. you know what he is. no one can pretend. act shocked. or anything else
by Childhood Trauma on Feb 26, 2008 8:36 PM CST reply actions
“Perron’s attitude isn’t quite in-line with an NHL lifestyle yet.”
I thought that meant he doesn’t drink or go to strip bars enough.
by Pagan on Feb 26, 2008 8:36 PM CST reply actions
“how can you hate tootoo less than cam?”
tootoo can actually score. I’d take him over Mr. hometown any day,
by Pagan on Feb 26, 2008 8:38 PM CST reply actions
I think he may skip ahead to the “Kevin Stevens-lifestyle.”
by stlchapman on Feb 26, 2008 8:38 PM CST reply actions
The argument has been made by some that because Perron played so much over the summer he needs to rest and not play a full NHL schedule. Then why the hell wouldn’t Murray want him to take practices easy and save it for the game?
by Pagan on Feb 26, 2008 8:40 PM CST reply actions
seriously. consistant offense is what’s been missing, not grit and toughness. we need Perron to play
by Dooks on Feb 26, 2008 8:44 PM CST reply actions
I would think Murray’s idea would be to work your ass off in practice and earn a spot in the games. Let us not forget that he is a rookie. As a rookie you earn roster spots over vets due to your performance in practice. He isn’t doing that.
by stlchapman on Feb 26, 2008 8:46 PM CST reply actions
My understanding was the kid had been working his ass off all season, but started to slack after seeing he couldn’t do anything (other than being absolutely perfect) to get Murray to play him more.
by Pagan on Feb 26, 2008 8:49 PM CST reply actions
That would be your answer. As a rookie, you CAN’T slack. You can bet your ass EJ is screwing around in practice.
by stlchapman on Feb 26, 2008 8:52 PM CST reply actions
I digress thouhg. This shouldn’t be about one player – Perron. it should be about one player – Janssen, who is now the what? seventh fourth line player on this team.
I’m not saying I don;t wnat Janssen on the team. I just don’t want Janssen, RJ, King, Hinote, Mayers, McClement and Stasny on the same team. How many goals do they have between them? Thankfully Mike Johnson is gone.
by Pagan on Feb 26, 2008 8:52 PM CST reply actions
EJ was deemed the second coming of Pronger crossed with MacInnis before he even got here. There’s no way Murray wouldn’t have played him.
by Pagan on Feb 26, 2008 8:54 PM CST reply actions
I agree, who the hell needs Cam when we have DJ and Walker?
by stlchapman on Feb 26, 2008 8:55 PM CST reply actions
I don’t even think Perron has been terribly impressive when he has played. He’s shown flashes and could develop into a good player, but he has a tendancy to float. I just don’t think he’s going to work out his issues without some playing time.
I’d love for the Blues to make the playoffs, but this rollercoaster season has shown no signs of taking on a different tone in the home stretch. Maybe they’ll reel off a few wins, but I don’t trust them to not follow that with a few losses.
Maybe Murray will finally play him more when the playoffs are beyond reach. If he doesn’t then something is seriously wrong with the kid or with Murray.
by Pagan on Feb 26, 2008 9:01 PM CST reply actions
does all this perron talk mean that the blues should have jr’ed him? ha! they should have…
by Childhood Trauma on Feb 26, 2008 9:12 PM CST reply actions
But Perron needs to play more to be more consistent and one the problems we are facing that is not getting us into the playoffs is a lack of offense.
by Scot C on Feb 26, 2008 9:17 PM CST reply actions
If we’re relying on an 18-year-old for our offense, we’re more fucked than I thought we were.
by stlchapman on Feb 26, 2008 9:21 PM CST reply actions
Just heard Cam on the radio. He certainly sounds thrilled to be a Blue. As long as he doesn’t turn into the next Chris Simon (and aren’t we lucky that crazy SOB is in the West now) I’ll be okay with cam.
by Rich Horton on Feb 26, 2008 9:22 PM CST reply actions
as far as our chances for making the playoffs this season, yeah we are kind of fucked.
by Scot C on Feb 26, 2008 9:23 PM CST reply actions
Shit. Anyone else think maybe someone who could score might have helped this team?
by Rich Horton on Feb 26, 2008 9:23 PM CST reply actions
I’m no hockey coach but I’ve heard that scoring goals is good.
by Johnny Stats on Feb 26, 2008 9:24 PM CST reply actions
The NHL is a youngsters game now, Perron is 19 and just a couple of months younger than EJ.
by Scot C on Feb 26, 2008 9:27 PM CST reply actions
We have no business losing this game. Dallas has no business winning this game.
Simply awful.
by Rich Horton on Feb 26, 2008 9:33 PM CST reply actions
TY Pagan!!! You are quite the embiggened man!!!
by Johnny Stats on Feb 26, 2008 9:34 PM CST reply actions
Yep. Scoring goals. That’s important. Manny can’t hold the fort every night.
by Pagan on Feb 26, 2008 9:39 PM CST reply actions
Even if he could the best we could ever do without goals is a shootout situation
by Johnny Stats on Feb 26, 2008 9:39 PM CST reply actions
If the Blues continue to lose is Murray’s job safe?
by Pagan on Feb 26, 2008 9:42 PM CST reply actions
I think through the early part of next season. After that who knows
by Johnny Stats on Feb 26, 2008 9:43 PM CST reply actions
again, see elsewhere, wesign jackman don’t wonder why next year we are sitting here worried abut our pp, our finishing, and our transition!
look at the team’s salary for next season. how many f.a.’s you think ths team picks up?
by Childhood Trauma on Feb 26, 2008 9:49 PM CST reply actions
I’m not even worried about the team’s ability to sign free agents. I’m more concerned about the team finding space for skilled young guys like Oshie and Berglund when a bunch of grinders are taking up so many spots.

AAAARRRGGGGHHHHHHH! We can’t even beat a team whose asses we kick for two periods, whose goaltender is drunk/on drugs (or both), and the Stars didn’t even come out fired up for the 3rd period. Thanks to Martin Rucinsky, whose incredibly lazy hooking penalty (“He’s a veteran player with some skill,” says Andy Murray-why this is better than a younger player with some skill, I don’t know) during a power play gave the Stars their one break they needed to win the game (That’s all you need when your opposition can’t score more than one goal).
Turco’s a human rebound machine with horrible decision making and YOU STILL CAN’T SCORE! I really thought the Blues got it when they just fired away at him in the second period and those rebounds were lying in the slot… I figured it was just a matter of time before one of them found its way into the net. Huh. Manny has zero margin for error.
Steve Ott is a pussy. Leaves his feet to go after the smallest guy out there on the OPPOSITE side of the ice from DJ. I thought leaving your feet to hit someone into the boards was a penalty. I guess that’s why we got Janssen and a skate sharpener that hasn’t been used since the last Devils’ Cup season for Salvador. Now we have our own cheapjack goon and we still can’t score.

I’m sitting here eating my poutine enjoying all sorts of comments about a home game. A HOME GAME! In November, an open thread for a home game would get 10-15 comments tops.
