Blues Vs. Sharks Open Thread

By Brad Lee
Sharks are in town tonight. A couple players are banged up. We don't have a lot of enthusiasm for this one. Blues are winless in five, Sharks hoping to extend their winning streak to five. Something's gotta give.
Feel free to make some pithy comments during and after the game. We'll try to have something up late tonight or tomorrow. If we knew what it was, we'd tell you.

you guys heard that Boucher is their back-up now, right? no Greiss, no Patzoid, Swiss Cheese Boucher. hopefully they’ll take pity on us and start him instead of Nabby…..but I doubt it.
I’m also gonna try to make it to the game too. a Legace figurine couldn’t hurt

btw, lol @ “candygram”. good one Brad. don’t know why that never crossed my mind when that pic was up before. that Shark is like “mmm, dandruff, the new parmesan”
by Dooks on Mar 1, 2008 7:37 PM CST reply actions
I’m gonna be grading exams while I listen to this. if the Blues give up the first goal I’m giving everyone a D minus.
by Rich Horton on Mar 1, 2008 7:38 PM CST reply actions
aw SHIT!! (excited)
they actually DID start Boucher!!
no reason whatsoever we’ll lose this game…….right?
by Dooks on Mar 1, 2008 7:39 PM CST reply actions
several scrambling shots by the Sharks in the first minute. outstanding team defense by the Blues! I have a good feeling about this game.
however I’m apathetic about pairing McKee with Walker, when Johnson and Woywitka are on another pair
by Dooks on Mar 1, 2008 7:41 PM CST reply actions
Hey Dooks, where is everyone else? They all scare up tickets tonight??
by Rich Horton on Mar 1, 2008 7:43 PM CST reply actions
it’s possible. it IS the weekend. maybe they had other plans
by Dooks on Mar 1, 2008 7:44 PM CST reply actions
I must be some sort of loser. I’d forgotten that. Thanks for the reminder! :-)
by Rich Horton on Mar 1, 2008 7:46 PM CST reply actions
Mayers. shot to the goalie’s chest. as usual.
um, try not shooting from the bad angle. your chances will improve
by Dooks on Mar 1, 2008 7:48 PM CST reply actions
Noel Picard is in the radio booth and they cant shut him up.
Plager: It must have been great to get your Stanley Cup ring?
Picard: Yep.
——————————————
Plager: Roenick has lost his helmet. Old time hockey out there, right Noel?
Picard: Huh? Oh, Yep.
by Rich Horton on Mar 1, 2008 7:52 PM CST reply actions
Even if you HAD meant it, I’d still laugh about it.
And I’m not even drunk!
After the last few season, no Blues fan can be all that poud. :-)

sigh Jackman is the lone defenseman on the powerplay.
wrong again, Murray!
Woywitka and Johnson are your man-advantage D-men
by Dooks on Mar 1, 2008 7:54 PM CST reply actions
wow, they have Thornton and their powerplay is only 18th in the league??
by Dooks on Mar 1, 2008 7:59 PM CST reply actions
Swiss Cheese Boucher is still wearing his Philadelphia Phantoms mask. Shark fans everywhere are beaming with pride
by Dooks on Mar 1, 2008 8:00 PM CST reply actions
christ. Kariya and McDonald are tripping over each other. Murray’s tringle offense is not working
by Dooks on Mar 1, 2008 8:02 PM CST reply actions
King and Shelly possibly planning their fight later on the faceoff
by Dooks on Mar 1, 2008 8:04 PM CST reply actions
Lets see if we can get any energy after that.
by Rich Horton on Mar 1, 2008 8:06 PM CST reply actions
yep, there they go.
it will probably go down as a draw, but I give King the win. Shelley got a few shots in but he hit all helmet. King actually got a couple uppercuts right on target.
by Dooks on Mar 1, 2008 8:06 PM CST reply actions
Is there a matchup tongiht that offers the chance for a less appealing game than one featuring the Sharks (anytime) and the Blues (the way they are playing of late)? I dont think there is.
by Rich Horton on Mar 1, 2008 8:08 PM CST reply actions
The ref doesn’t know the rule. If it deflects off another player aint a fucking penalty.
by Rich Horton on Mar 1, 2008 8:09 PM CST reply actions
fuck that noise! Tkachuk got a phanton call right away when play resumed after the fight. and next puck drop, Brew gets a delay of game. fuck off ref!
by Dooks on Mar 1, 2008 8:09 PM CST reply actions
thanks for the Sharks PP goal, ref. you’re awesome!
by Dooks on Mar 1, 2008 8:10 PM CST reply actions
“he had no chance”
this time from Kelly. it’s infectious

Before tonite I mean.
by Rich Horton on Mar 1, 2008 8:18 PM CST reply actions
wanna drop quotes from another movie throughout the game?
by Dooks on Mar 1, 2008 8:19 PM CST reply actions
hmm i thought murray thought king and janssen could play at the same time?
11 shots. no goals. good thing are recent moves didnt address scoring :)
by Childhood Trauma on Mar 1, 2008 8:20 PM CST reply actions
November 12, 1-0 vs. Columbus, the season before last when he was on Chicago. the lone goal was scored by Lasse Kukkonen, who also no longer plays for Chicago.

lol you hear that report? a guy in Maryland Heights arranged for an exotic dancer to come to his house on Craigslist.com and it was a set-up for a robbery.
what a dork. go to a strip club, moron

they’re probably just fucking Shark fans seeing how they allowed a Shark game-winning goal the other day after it went off the protective netting.
against Murder City or not. bias

Johnson and Jackman on the point. I’ll take that.
by Rich Horton on Mar 1, 2008 8:56 PM CST reply actions
well maybe they don’t like Provelone- er, Pavlov- er, Pavelski.
he’s actually in the box the second time tonight
by Dooks on Mar 1, 2008 8:56 PM CST reply actions
if it doesn’t matter maybe we should just kill all the refs
by Johnny Stats on Mar 1, 2008 8:57 PM CST reply actions
I forget…does Boyes still play for the Blues. His name has NOT been mentioned once on the radio.
by Rich Horton on Mar 1, 2008 8:58 PM CST reply actions

Questions that arise from listening to the game ont he radio:
1) Just how much money does Whitey Herzog make from hawking every little damn thing in St. Louis?
2) The best of the “Real Men of Genius” ads in current rotation is the one on “overly competetive touch football player guy”. This begs the question, will they ever top the one for “the inventor of the taco salad”? (Answer: No they won’t.)
3) Why doesn’t Imo’s advertise on the Blues games????
by Rich Horton on Mar 1, 2008 9:03 PM CST reply actions
Answers from a guy who has listened to almost every game on the net this year
1) More than either of us will ever make in teaching Rich
2) I disagree. I like the T-shirt launcher guy one
3) To save me from a complete mental breakdown. I miss Imo’s!!!!!

Comeon we both know the big money is in high school ;-)
by Johnny Stats on Mar 1, 2008 9:08 PM CST reply actions
Ryan Johnson got his teeth chipped and his nose nearly broken (again)…yeah that doesn’t sound like a 4 minute penalty.
by Rich Horton on Mar 1, 2008 9:08 PM CST reply actions
Btw just curious what do you teach part-time adjunct…….and did you give everybody a D- like you threatened?
by Johnny Stats on Mar 1, 2008 9:08 PM CST reply actions
it’s amazing that SanJose only has one goal with the biased refs tonight.
but if we don’t score I’m going to fucking cry
by Dooks on Mar 1, 2008 9:09 PM CST reply actions

Yeah, but thats just the drug deals.

by Johnny Stats on Mar 1, 2008 9:12 PM CST reply actions
and good for those students who actually did their work well. I remember a teacher back in HS who if the basketball team he coached lost grades would dip greatly the next day

My wife is a History prof (full time tenure track).
The good thing is spring break comes up in two weeks so i will be heading back to the land of Imo’s soon. (Although, for my money the best st. louis style pizza is Faraci’s.)

Well if Brad is not doing that he’s getting another round I’m sure

by Johnny Stats on Mar 1, 2008 9:17 PM CST reply actions
hmm, seems like we have a relative time (during spring break) and a location (Imo’s) for the get together.
how about the Hampton/I-44 location for old times sake (a couple blocks away from the old Arena grounds
by Dooks on Mar 1, 2008 9:18 PM CST reply actions
That’s not a bad idea…..depending on what the rest of our online bretheren say…..though they may pick on someplace like Hotshots or Zone. But any of these ideas are good with me :-D
by Johnny Stats on Mar 1, 2008 9:20 PM CST reply actions
I think I’ll enjoy it more now. When I was in college (UMSL class of ’90), I worked nearly full time, so there wasn;t much of a change.
Now, I’m gonna hit Llewyellen’s hard. (I need a few pints of Double Dragon).

hey, Steve Ewing of The Urge plays that place semi-often. I’ll have to check it out sometime
by Dooks on Mar 1, 2008 9:23 PM CST reply actions
How good has Legace been really? Hasn’t he been outplayed by most every goalie we have faced lately?
by Rich Horton on Mar 1, 2008 9:25 PM CST reply actions
he’s made several dazzling saves, and stayed bulletproof despite being peppered with shots. it’s just that the team doesn’t help him out
by Dooks on Mar 1, 2008 9:28 PM CST reply actions
Well it’s sounded to me like he’s being doing pretty good…..we’ve just been unlucky with opposing goalies standing on their heads and well our offense sucking worse than……..um…..something that sucks really bad
by Johnny Stats on Mar 1, 2008 9:29 PM CST reply actions
Why has someone like Whitfield never been brought up, but we have room for King AND Janssen??
by Rich Horton on Mar 1, 2008 9:29 PM CST reply actions
Aw…..I dont wanna hate on Manny…but soft goals make me crazy.
by Rich Horton on Mar 1, 2008 9:30 PM CST reply actions
I honestly think we need a coaching change. we have 3 assistants and a head coach that SHOULD be an assistant.
lose Bennett, and switch Murray with Shaw. we can do that after the deadline, right?
by Dooks on Mar 1, 2008 9:31 PM CST reply actions
why do we bother sticking non d on the power play poitn when our power play sucks donkey oysters? might as well at least put a d out there, that as not the first blues pp tonight were the best chance went ot the sharks, it just happened to be the only one they scored on so far.

if we get shut out, by Brian fucking Boucher, I’m not going to another game until there’s a change of strategy and a drastic improvement in our offense. I apparently care about this team a little too much, since they play so terribly and it makes me extremely depressed.
by Dooks on Mar 1, 2008 9:40 PM CST reply actions
Murray’s definitely slipping. the players don’t seem to be motivated, and they’re obviously not very conditioned, because they seem to pretty much give up halfway through the 3rd period.
we used to be able to skate circles around some teams in the 3rd and come back from behind and shit.
by Dooks on Mar 1, 2008 9:44 PM CST reply actions
boyes signed for 4 years. when i track down the numbers we will know just how bad the budget is going to be for next season.
by Childhood Trauma on Mar 1, 2008 9:47 PM CST reply actions
breaking news, Brad Boyes is extended through 4 years. sweet. but he’s slumping big time. maybe this is why Boston was okay with letting him go for only Wideman
