It’s a St. Louis thing, Marcus…

I recently had a “discussion” about this with some St. Louis natives, and the feeling was that nobody really asks this, and it’s only a “St. Louis thing” because everybody now says “it’s a St. Louis thing”.

I dunno, I’ve heard it asked many a time by St. Louis area natives, myself included.

yea i’ve asked and been asked. kinda like what exit jersey thing.
it is probably going out of style. but for my generation, knowing where someone went to highschool instantly gave you a lot of info (religious affiliation, section of the city, family income) etc.

i’ve asked and been asked a hundred times as i well.
but this begs the question who is more from st. louis? for instance i was born in ohio and lived there till i was four but grew up in st. louis. now yan grew up but he was born in quebec. i played hockey with yan never with cam. cam also went away to play junior hockey in canada. so why is it that blues are doing this extra bit to pump up janssen as the first product of st. louis hockey to play for the blues? i’d rather it was honestly said and that’s yan. then we can also claim paul stastny as a st. louis nhl player.
i guess it disgusts me because last year we draft peluso instead of pat maroon. pat maroon actually has talent while peluse a truck-sized man-boy who pounds people with his fist. see the theme here? pat maroon leads the london knights in scoring…the london fucking knights. you ever hear of that team? try pat kane and sam ganger as recent players. pat maroon also is scoring more than david perron did last year in major junior.
so why the fuck all this st. louis hype and shit if the blues don’t want to draft anybody with any real talent but will trade for a guy who doesn’t play and can’t score?

according to one of my college professers (back when I went), ‘where did you go to highschool?’ is “the St. Louis question”.
I just never read into it as much as Trauma explained above. now I know. makes sense

When they ask and I give them the name of a shcool in the Metro East, the questioner always looks like I answered “Mars.”

@Pagan: Haha, I’ve gotten the same looks, though some people at least pretend to know what I’m talking about.

I attribute it to the fact that St. Louis is one of the most segregated cities in America. We have to put everyone into their category and judge them.

that’s why i’m moving again also…this place sickens me by the materialistic judgements. but i’ll always be a blues fan unless something drastic happens like young players being benched undeservedly next year occurs again and this team again sux. or the nhl keeps up half this bs(claiming obstruction calls and then going back to clutch and grab league, the prongers of the world not getting their just deserves). then i’ll move a few hours north into canada and become a major junior fan. i really like the battalion jersies. of course i was in the army.

yeah, my ex (older site members may recall hearing about her) hated it here, and went back to Predator country. there’s something about this city that doesn’t exactly appeal to outsiders.

When I was just a little Prospect Department, my home area of Macoupin County was pretty much BFE ™ to the “big city” folk in St. Louis.
It still is, but at least now Macoupin County is shown on the weather maps on the St. Louis stations, and we’re actually considered a part of the St. Louis Metro Area.
