Marek Schwarz goes home to Europe
According to this article on the Achorage Daily News site, Blues prospect and former first round draft pick Marek Schwarz has had quite enough of freezing his ass off while playing in Alaska. He has decided to flee home to his native Czech Republic.
Schwarz played in 5 games for the Aces this season, recording a .904 save percentage and a 3.15 GAA. He also played 10 games for the Rivermern, recording a horrid .869 save percentage and a 3.56 GAA.
Also, somewhere in the world, while reading the above mentioned article, someone uttered the word "asshat".

Well done, I said asshat when I read the headline and saw the picture. After the last line I got to laugh out loud in a room ful of people where it isn’t ok to laugh aloud.

I saw this kid play against Chicago his first year. He looked athletic and raw, but he looked like he could live up to his billing. Four years later, he’s a bust. Cash was also a consensus (and not just by the Blues) future #1 goaltender. Five years later, he’s still doing the same things wrong.
The question: is it something that the organization is doing which is causing highly-rated goaltenders to fail to reach their potential, or is it just that we’ve had bad luck with getting big talent, but uncoachable head cases (See Johnson, Brent).

I think you’re right about it being the organization. The club has never developed a franchise goaltender, and we’d probably have a Cup somewhere in there during the Pronger/MacInnis Era if that weren’t the case. Mike Liut and CuJo are the closest the Blues have come, but you could argue neither was ‘developed’ here.
Davidson seems to be on the right track now with the kids – perhaps Bishop will be handled better.

Yeah, what has consistently kept the Blues from becoming true cup contenders (except 68, 69 and 70 with Plante) was the goaltending. Bishop could turn out to be a franchise goaltender a few years down the road, but if he’s another bust, I expect Davidson to bite on a more established keeper, IMHO.

Jake Allen is also a possible name in the future. Granted, he’s only 18 right now, but from what I have read, he’s been nothing but impressive with Montreal (QMJHL). Hopefully Bishop does pan out though.

04 was a terrible draft year for the blues all around, the lone exception being Roman Polak at 180th overall. That’s looking like a steal, but not really as much of a steal a Franzen at 97th.
As far as goalies and the St. Louis Blues orginization go, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, spend the money, get someone thats already moderately established on someone else’s time (offer to harding, trade for vokoun) because we, like most teams, just can’t seem to get it right. Now the Florida Panthers, it’s like goddamn goalie country down there for some reason, who the hell knows why.

I agree, but we’ve done that before and for some damn reason it doesn’t work out. Fuhr, Casey, Turek, Lalime, Toivonen, Legace – they were all either established goalies or highly talented up-and-comers who appeared to be good (not great) options in net. Harding and probably even Vokoun would have numbers no better than Legace on this injury-depleted team. What the Blues have never done is draft and develop a big time goalie. You don’t necessarily have to do that to win (Colorado, Dallas, fuck Detroit) but doing so can put you over the top. That Presidents Trophy squad under Quenneville would’ve won a Cup with simply a very good (not even great) goalie. We have talent in the system. We need to find a very good goalie quickly. Easier said than done, obviously.
