Ott at least got something...
We all knew...or hoped...it was coming.
Looks like we got what we thought was deserved. According to the article I found here Ott has been suspended for 2 games as a result of the hit on Cola. Now I know we're divided against the legitimacy of that hit, but I think we're in agreement that Ott deserved SOMETHING for the numerous evils he committed in the game overall.
Not that a 2 game suspension means much of anything...and he won't learn anything either. It'll just be 2 more games til he can go out there and do it again.
Lucky for us, it seems like Cola is ok.

WOW...2 whole games...THAT'LL SHOW HIM!
Now if he did that to Ovechkin/Crosby/ Malkin / Pronger / Kane…he would be banned for probably 10 games or banished for life to play in the KHL or something.
Something is better than nothing at least.
If he did it to Pronger...
He’d better have his head on a fuckin’ swivel, ’cause Chris will get him back.

And what's worse
Is that if any of them (except Pronger) threw the hit they wouldn’t get suspended at all
I don’t think so, if Ovechkin did he might. He is a superstar, but he also has a reputation for a hitter (though not dirty). He did have 243 of them last year. So refs do look at him.
My stats come from http://stats.hockeyanalysis.com/200809/playerhits.php
I thought the hit on Crombeen's knee...
… was a lot worse than the hit on Colaiacovo. Yes, Crombeen avoided the brunt of the damage, but an intentional knee-on-knee hit should have brought out the big suspension hammer. Instead, it’s ignored in favor of a marginal low-body hit that caused an upper-body injury.
I agree
The Colo hit was legit and good hockey…the shit to Crombeen was scummy hockey. If you’ve ever played, you’d take the Colo hit over the BJ hit any day.

indeed
but Colo should:
A-quit admiring his pass
B-know that douchecap Ott is on the ice
C-Go lower than Ott’s ass
D-slam on the brakes
He’s a pro for fucks sake.

yea for a non contact league
our refs let way to much go sometimes, which to be honest is fine with me just know what you do to my teammate is going to hurt you later

The susension was for the lift
If you look at the replay again notice what ott does during the hit. Yeah it was a little low and a little late but when cola is over his back watch ott stand straight up to give him air. I think thats what got him the 2.
agree
he tried to flip him it looked like.. his arm goes to push his legs off him

It will only stick when Dallas does something
Like him or hate him ever since the Rangers benched Avery themselves after he played a sloppy dirty game he seems to have straightened himself up a bit. He’s still a pest that annoys everyone else on the ice but he’s not taking guys out like he was.
It takes the team leadership to change how someone plays not the league.
Especially since the players realize that the league's a joke.
Continuing my comparison of hockey players to students, it’s like when a kid does whatever he wants to in the halls b/c he knows that the administration won’t really punish him, but he sits down and shuts up in the room because he’s scared of his teacher.
God knows if I was Avery, I’d be scared of Torts too.
Reporter: There`s a "stamp out the Beatles movement" underway in Detroit. What are you going to do about it?
Paul McCartney: We`re going to start a campaign to stamp out Detroit.
I'd have to agree with you...
I think next time Ott starts to go overboard, Crawford will probably sit him down for a little while. Morrow (Stars captain) had absolutely zero love for Avery. You know he doesn’t want one of his teammates turning into the same kind of person.
I don’t think it will be a problem the next time these 2 teams play each other. Although I wonder if the Blues team will be out for Ott’s blood… hopefully not, but it seems fairly likely.
uh yea
its gonna happen, and it should. I think the blues players are going to be pissed they missed the knee on knee, and honestly i think crombeen is going to try and decapitate the fucker and should

I wouldn't expect any less from Crombeen...
He definitely needs to stick up for himself after what happened. I don’t think a single Stars fan will fault him if he does. Heck, I wouldn’t even blame the whole Blues team for trying to send a message… they have a right to show Ott he shouldn’t have crossed the line. I promise that if Crombeen completely decks Ott while I’m at that game, I will stand up and applaud for him. Sound good to y’all?
My only concern is that it might go too far again, and result in serious injuries or suspensions for either team.
Didn't Crombeen already
stick up for himself after the incident? Or are you saying that Crombeen has the right to do something else in retaliation?
by Mr. Particle on Oct 27, 2009 5:25 PM CDT up reply actions
Yes, he did...
… and got the 17-minute fruit salad for his efforts. The message from the refs was pretty clear: if dirty play is inevitable, lay back and enjoy it.
He didn't really get a good chance...
I agree with luvhockey 100%… Can’t wait to see what happens when they get a whole game to try and send a message. Makes for some good hockey.
I think it will be an out to get him game next
I hope to see some hard checks that are legal. Lots and lots of them.
But I hope the Blues players don’t lower themselves to the cheap hits level.
I’ll respect the guys much more if the youngsters can do that.
Show ‘em how it’s done clean.
While I'll admit that this fuckface deserved more than 2 games . . .
it’s pretty much a consensus that he deserved SOMETHING . . . unless you’re in the DFW area; then you think the guy’s fucking Jesus or something, in which case you need to be Tasered relentlessly until you’ve lost all control of bodily functions.
Anyway. I have the sense that the Blues know that 2 games is NOT enough, and someone will probably low-bridge and/or kneecap Ott in the next matchup. It won’t do much, and whoever does it will probably get suspended (possibly for a long time), but at least it’ll quell the locker room jitters about the whole thing just a bit, even if some of us don’t totally approve of the actions that brought such a consequence.
Unless Ott gets injured and put on the shelf for awhile before then, like what happened to him last season. Then we’ll have to wait again. And waiting sucks balls.

I wouldn't say we all think he's Jesus...
Just that he’s a better player than this, and that is what is frustrating. We certainly don’t condone his actions when he goes too far.

How in the hell can the league
suspend the guy for a good legal hit and give him nothing for the knee on knee.
Makes absolutely no sense.
Was it because the legal hit injured and the illegal hit didn’t????
that was my main problem
with all of this, the knee on knee needed to be called out, and his hit on cola was barely legal if at all the puck had been gone for a good few seconds, long enough to stop the check, and theres a difference between a clean hip check and a low bridge hit
Pujols takes out "I" in BIG and "A" in MAC, previously considered to be an unyielding, consonant threat
I posted this above
But from what I heard the suspension was for the body lift.
