Question for the ladies
Puck Daddy posted a story about a female Flames fan who is pissed that there isn't a female cut of the vintage Calgary sweaters the team is wearing this season.
The post went on to express outrage over the pink sweaters offered for all 30 teams, while only a handful had similarly-fashioned home/away sweaters.
So my question is: do you find this to be an issue? Would you be more likely to buy a Blues sweater if it fit you better? Or are you already buying the "traditional cut" and couldn't give a rat's ass about form-fitting sweaters?
(BTW here's the story for those interested: Puck Daddy: Sexism and the third jersey)

I posted a comment on that.
Since I’m lazy, I’ll just copy and paste here:
As a woman, I absolutely can’t stand the women’s cut jerseys, and whatever they think women want to wear to support their team.
Some women might enjoy wearing the ladies’ cut jerseys, or the pink ones, or whatever, and that’s fine – for them. I own five jerseys, all of which are traditional ones. I can’t even bring myself to buy a RBK one (too expensive, and for the cost of a nice CCM you get one with iron-on patches?? WTF?), let alone a pink jersey.
The day that I wear a pink Blues jersey is the day that I cease becoming a real hockey fan and start becoming a puck bunny, and that isn’t going to happen.
That, and frankly, the guys that I know all prefer women to wear actual jerseys, and to actually be able to discuss hockey. They find it to be a bigger turn on than the twit in the pink jersey 2 sizes too small who looks like she’s going clubbing.
And to whomever said that the traditional jerseys don’t work because “you have boobs,” that’s an awful excuse. I can’t find a women’s jersey that fits me right because of my boobs.
In case you can’t tell, I am not a fan.

Ha! Thanks hildy.
I thought the same thing. Women look just fine in the traditional jerseys. Hell, I’d take the female superfan wearing the game-worn jersey that’s two sizes too big over the girl wearing a “fashionable” pink/feminine-cut jersey.

Yes!
Speaking of women and hockey (and I missed it the first time, but I caught the replay in the plays of the week last night), one of our ice girls last Saturday probably made 10K men have an awkward moment at once.
Apparently they were doing a ladies hockey night, and girls were taking turns against this guy goaltender from a local HS. One our Ice Girls grabbed a stick, triple deked the guy, and scored – and then followed it up with the Teemu Selanne glove toss/use your stick as a shotgun celebration.
There was an audible gasp at the replay – I can’t imagine what it was like the night it happened. I hate the Ice Girl concept, but she is my hero.

I was wondering about this, too. Because: 1) ladies look just fine in a regular-cut jersey, 2) it’s not like regular-cut jerseys “fit” men perfectly, either.
Truthfully, I like the pink “jerseys” better than the women’s cut ones, because the pink ones don’t even look like a “jersey” to me — they just look like some other piece of apparel, like a sweatshirt — whereas the women’s cut look like a warped jersey with a shrunken logo.
The real truth in all this: Fuck RBK (vowels not included). Thanks to RBK, no jersey feels right anymore.

On the bright side, who doesn’t notice that players skate 0.025% faster in them? They single-handedly revived Mark Recchi’s career, I swear.

I agree with Hildy
I absolutely HATE the pink jerseys (with certain exceptions, I suppose, for breast cancer survivors). If you are a fan, put on the team colors. Our team has great colors and a great logo, respect that.
That being said, I have thought about ordering the “female cut” jersey to see how it would look, but the sizing is crazy. There’s no reason I (at 5’5", 125lbs) should have to buy a large or extra large just because I have boobs. Shouldn’t the fact that these are cut for women take those into account? This is my same gripe with everything Alyssa Milano has ever designed for the NHL. It’s cut way too small for women with curves. Not to mention the fact that my second X chromosome does not automatically predispose me to want to wear sparkles, baby pink, or short cropped shirts.
My solution is to wear my men’s medium jersey to games. It’s big, but it allows me to lean forward to will them to score on the power play, jump up to yell at refs or fights, and celebrate goals all without restricted motion or fear of showing butt cleavage to the gentlemen in the row behind me. It’s more comfortable and going to hockey games is one of the few places I don’t feel like I have to worry about how I look or how my clothes fit. No jewelry, no heels… just jeans, my jersey, and my converse allstars (in blues colors, of course).
For t-shirts, I go with a boys XL shirt, which fits better than any “female cut” blues shirt I have found.
Does ladies cut include cleavage?
because the NHL could gain a lot more support with female jerseys like that…
Look I'm sure youre a nice person and everything but that Redwings jersey you're wearing makes me want to cave your face in with my fist...it's not you it's me and the fact that you're a fucking Redwings fan
oh and the pink jerseys blow, except for detroit and chicago jerseys since the pink color suits their pussiness

Agreed
I wouldn’t be seen dead in a pink jersey…and as to the supposed “women’s” jerseys …HA!
I buy the normal jerseys. There’s just something…superficial about the pink and the womens jerseys. It’s just not right.

Same here
I hate those pink jerseys too. I wouldn’t waste my money on them and to be perfectly honest I think they’re a little demeaning. My men’s medium size jersey works just fine for me. It keeps me warm in the chilly Scottrade. But there are times when I do like to dress like a girl so I also have a feminine cut long sleeve Blues T-shirt that I will occasionally wear to the game.
We seem to all be in agreement
I hate pink to begin with, so those atrocities will never be acceptable to me. I suppose I can understand why some women might want a women’s cut jersey, but I find them completely pointless. Obviously, considering the only jersey I own is an old school red clown jersey that is at least 1 size too large (it was my brothers and heading for the garage sale 7 years ago before I rescued it), I don’t wear my jersey to make a fashion statement or to impress guys with my looks; I wear it to support my team. When I finally have enough money to buy a new jersey (for the record, I like the new RBK jerseys… why all the hate?), it will be a men’s medium and it will look damn good, not because my boobs are popping out of it, but because (1) I’ll be comfortable and (2) It is a symbol of my pride in my team.
As Laurabeth said, there are times when I want to look cute and girly while still supporting my team (not so much at games, but on game days as I’m putzing around campus), but I also hate most of the other women’s clothing thay make (some of it is nice, but all of it fits me weird). My personal solution is to bust out my sewing and pattern making skillz to turn those 2XL shirts they give out at games and other events (prospect camp, fan fest, etc) and turn them into fitted t-shirts and tanks. I have 4 shirts like this, with 2 fan fest shirts waiting to be doctored. It’s nice because everything fits me perfectly and it’s all one-of-a-kind! (I also made a stocking cap with a Blues patch from a pair of pajama pants that were too small, and the pants became a shirt, as well… no Blues apparel gets thrown away in my house!)
LOL
I’ve been buying jerseys with a lot of guesswork – mainly because I order online and can’t try them on first. Subsequently I’ve got two Blues jerseys now (one is still in CA waiting for me to pick it up) that are definitely WAY too large for me. The upside of this is that they are terrific to wear over the top of hoodies etc in the winter.
And besides…as said above, I don’t wear the jersey for a fashion statement. I wear it to support my team.

Totally agree
I agree that I don’t think the women’s cut jersey fit right. I do wish there was a size somewhere between men’s small (too wide) and boy’s extra large (too short), but either are much preferable to the women’s cut.
The pink jerseys push my buttons and for a while I couldn’t figure out why. Sure it’s weird to not wear your team’s colors and to choose pink instead. Sure they look ridiculous (it’s a hockey game there’s many people who look ridiculous, that’s part of the between-periods fun), but it’s something more than that and I think I’ve finally put my finger on it.
I’ve been fortunate to never feel demeaned while being a female who likes hockey.
When I look around at my life as a hockey fan, I see great guys that I have water-cooler conversations with at work the morning after a game, awesome friends who give me shit during our fantasy hockey league, not because I’m a girl but because I’m in a fantasy hockey league (both trash talk and shit for being nerdy enough to be in a fantasy hockey league), and a great husband who loves to debate with me every fall about whether we should upgrade our season tickets or get Center Ice. Through all these interactions with men, I never once feel an ounce of sexism and when I think about that I feel pretty good about the world and where we’ve come since the days of Mad Men.
…and then I see that damn pick jersey.
I understand that the guys I know are probably not as representative of the male gender as I would like to believe, but do I have to be reminded at every home game I go to? Cause that’s what that jersey does, it screams: douche bag. It reminds me of the douche bags who exist on message boards and put down women to post comments, the ones who run their mouths in sports bars, the ones who sit in board rooms and say things like "you know what will get women into hockey? PINK JERSEYS!". And the worst douche bags: the women who buy into all of it.

i didnt realize this was a heated issue.screw the pink jerseys(sorry breast cancer survivors)where the team colors. I wear my Oshie jersey with pride

I agree with all who say the women’s jerseys look funny. When I bought my third jersey, I bought a kids’ one. The sleeves hit at just the right point on my arms whereas having to buy the mens’ would likely make them entirely too long. It’s also big enough to look like a regular jersey and not like I’m trying to wear one as a dress. Sports apparel is tough for short girls if you don’t want to buy into the Alyssa Milano line of skank gear.
