First GameTime GetTogether of the new season ...

We had fun with these last year, I think we're due for another!

Star-divide

Last year we had a few GameTime GetTogethers on the East Side, and we've got a good opportunity coming up soon. Basically, it's a chance to watch a road game, drink with fellow GameTimers, and still participate in the GDT here online. Nuttin' wrong with that!

Coming up, on 11/25, the Blues are on the road in Dallas. We can make this a sort of wake for Steve "CheapShot" Ott, for he may well die that night. The next day is Thanksgiving, so most folks won't have to worry about drinking and then going to work the next morning. Most bars do not have live music or big crowds on a Wednesday, so we should have no problems spreading out. It is a Versus game, so we need to make sure that the bar can get that network (remember the good old days when that wasn't a concern?).  We might even catch an out-of-towner home for the holiday. All in all, this sounds like a good night for it.

The last ones were held in Collinsville, IL, at a bar called Fifth Quarter. They treated us well, had good food, and we had a lot of fun. Really, we could do this anywhere that 1) is showing the game, 2) has wifi for GDT participation, and 3) serves booze. My usual lunch spot in Maplewood, MO, would also work; Cousin Hugo's. I'm sure there are others.

I certainly wouldn't be opposed to going back there again, since its worked well for us before. If there is a better location that meets our criteria, we have some time to work this out. Let's hear about it!

If I can I will.

It’ll be my birthday.

Sometimes, I wonder why hockey came south of St. Louis, and then I realize, I'm south of St. Louis. Coincidence, I think not.

Hugo's is 1/2 block from my house

So I’d have little excuse to not show up and take some verbal abuse while drinking my beer.

Hugo's is out, methinks

They have Direct TV, and this is a VS game.

I bowl on Wednesday nights.

So if it’s gonna be on the 25th, I won’t be able to make it regardless.

One day, David Backes and Albert Pujols will combine forces to become the most awesome piece of violent force known to man.

I was picturing Walter pulling out a gun, but yes. I assume Donut King don’t roll on Shabbos.

I need to make one of these, but I have hockey that night. Dammit.

Too bad my bowling ball is purple. Or else this might be close.

I'd be all for it if I can make it - we'll have to see where it is.

As an Edwardsviller, Collinsville is pretty doable. I’d just have to make sure no one knows I’m from E-Ville! (Go Tigers!)

I know it's time for hockey because I've started singing "Don't Stop Believing" with the words "...born and raised in FUCK DETRIOT!!!"

I'd rather head to 5th Quarter in Collinsville

Since I live a few blocks away. If it was in Missouri, I’d probably skip it since once I go home after work, I don’t want to drive back over there.

I do have a suggestion though. There is no reason we couldn’t have this outing at both locations. Even if only two people show up at each, it’s still a gathering of the GameTime minds. I have a feeling that we could get several people at each location. I might even have a spare laptop for postings if somebody needs one in Collinsville.

Keystone Lake Zamboni falls through thin ice

A Zamboni took a dip in North America's largest groomed skating pond at Keystone Resort tonight.
A driver was grooming the lake at about 6:15 p.m., when the ice cracked and the 7,000-pound machine began to sink at about 6:15 p.m. As a precaution, skaters were cleared from another area of the 5-acre pond, resort spokesman Ryan Whaley said. The driver was not injured.
There was no word immediately on how soon the rink might re-open, but staff will examine the ice and remove the Zamboni Wednesday, Whaley said.
"They'll take it out and we'll see how it is," Whaley said of the machine and the safety of the ice around the crater.
With a lake that large, other areas could reopen immediately, he said.

Once it dries out, the machine is likely salvageable, he said.
Kenneth Waesche snapped a photo of the sunken ice machine when he stopped by Lakeside Village for a pickup game of hockey. His wife planned to do some skating.
Waesche said that the "thin ice" sign in the foreground of the photo was some distance away from where the Zamboni went in.
The lake is typically open from Dec. 18 to March. 28 depending on the weather, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
