Try a bit of UK Ice Hockey..
In response to the recent fanpost with an article about Ice Hockey in the UK, I figured it might be interesting for you guys to have a bit of a look. The UK team I support are the Peterborough Phantoms (even though I live a few hundred miles from Peterborough!) - playing in the EPL. Last year, we won practically everything available...this year...not so good. LOL.
I started supporting the Phantoms a few years ago, after they had a "Legends" game. One of the legends was a certain Gary Unger - and I got a signed Blues puck. The Phantoms staff and behind the scenes personnel were excellent - so I weighed in with my minimal support. So, to give you a bit of an idea of the kind of hockey we get over here...check out some highlights. This is the Phantoms winning the "Ashes" against the Milton Keynes Lightning (and I love the fans shouting "Hit him!" and "Paste him!" when a fight breaks out):

It reminds me of the iceplex
Only smaller.
There aren’t enough seats to support a team is there?
Doc, as an Unger fan and watching him as a preteen, you must spell his name right girl
Garry.
Thanks for the look at UK hockey
LOL
I have serious issues remembering that it’s GARRY. For some reason, I have a mental block against putting that second R in. I know it should be there…but my brain refuses to accept it. LOL
And no – you rarely get full arenas. The Elite League is screened…but only on satellite tv. There’s not a lot of investment in the sport – which is a shame. And the distinct lack of facilities (nearest rink to me, as I said, is in Wales. I live right at the bottom of Cornwall!) definitely doesn’t help.
Such a shame really.

Looking at a map
I think you’re closer to France then England
Right out there in the ocean or sea whichever that is.
LMAO
Well as we Cornish NEVER describe ourselves as “English” – we prefer either “Cornish” or “British” and NEVER EVER upon pain of death would I call myself “European” – then we are probably closer to France. Unfortunately. Ho hum.
And I live in Penzance – so you can see how far down I am!!

Why would you not describe
yourself as English? Yet British? I can understand Cornish I guess.
I guess I need to read some UK history.
Looking at Google maps I love the British streets and town names.
The Ropewalk? What the hell kind of name is that?
And the town Brane (probably because I named my younger Blane)
I’ve visited Penzance on holiday, although it was many years ago. And I spent 1993 as an ex-pat living in Surrey. My family is chock-full of Anglophiles.
And my house there had a name, not a number. Which is cool.

Ahhhh
Well….I’ll give you the quick, potted version. Cornish people are Celts – same as the Welsh and Scots. We also have our own language. The Welsh and Scots have their own identity – recognised – etc. The Cornish want the same. We are NOT English – and never will be. We can now put Cornish on the census etc – and we are a recognised minority.
LOL Lots of people down here – and I mean Cornish people – want to be recognised like the Welsh and Scots – and given our own parliament like them – devolution in other words.
