The Captain Steps Up: Brewer Fights Ott
The much-discussed fight from last night. As noted earlier this week, sometimes a captain has to stand up and send a message. Eric Brewer might not be the fans' most beloved captain in Blues history, but fighting Steve Ott last night sent a message to his teammates and a message to the Steve Ott's of the world: Mess with one of us, you mess with all of us.
Many thanks to our friends at Fried Chicken's Hockey-Fights site for the video.

Ott found out what happens when you push Brewer's wrong bottons...

I am a big enough man
to admit that Brewer earned some respect from me with this. Thanks to DTV I didn’t know this fight happened until just now, but I am impressed. It is nice to see the captain show some team character.

I’m wondering if Steve Ott got the Eric Brewer flu?

Leaders lead from the front
Props to the captain for punching Otter’s head in. The only better punking would have been Kariya knocking him out.

Nice fight.
It seemed like the Versus announcers were totally unaware of what previously transpired between Ott and the Blues, and chalked it up to Ott pushing around on Conk. That might have been part of it, but you can’t tell me that some of this doesn’t go back to that last game.
Good one on Brewer for sticking up for Conklin and the team. I’m not his biggest fan, but I don’t hate the guy, and I really enjoyed seeing him show some emotion here.
Shame Ott turtled before damage was done.

I'm just glad Ott fought.
He was a bit mismatched against Brewer but he fired back after the attempted decapitation from behind. I think towards the end of the fight he realized he was close to a serious ass kicking though. But hey, at least he tried.
Overall though, I respected the Blues for not just going all apeshit against Ott and the Stars, instead just playing their game and getting the best retribution: a good win.

In consider myself to be impartial to Brewer.
If he does well, I’m happy. If he does poor, I expect better. Here- I was happy.

Still not calling him by name.
But damn that was nice to come home to.

this is part of why
i still try to like jacks, he stands up on the ice a lot. but if brewer starts more of this, brewer gets himself more room doesn’t he?

This is what Brewer Needed
Great way to lead and ideally would have really smashed Ott’s face.
Word is Brewer is sitting tonight because of a “nagging injury”. Some others are speculating that trades are being discussed.
What do I think? I think the last time Brewer got in a fight he tore his shoulder up. I like that guy and he needs to be nasty more often.
