Late Night Poll: Time For Snap Judgements

It's a straight-up given: people hate change. We looked at doing some fairly significant chnges to the paper this week and they were met with immediate negativity by virtually everyone we asked. Myself, I hated them at first, but after a couple hours I thought, "You know, that's actually better in some ways and we could work around the other shit."

But everyone else? Yikes. Not so much. If I'd just made the changes there would have been mass uprisings and many angry emails. And then, after a couple weeks, everyone would have gotten used to it. Because, you know, people buy our paper for the content, not the asthetics. Smaller in size, larger in font, more colorful everywhere? My guess is that it would have worked out.

Nevertheless, we decided to fuck all that noise.

Similarly, our webfriends who invited us to this big SBN party made some changes yesterday to the asthetics, but not our content.

I didn't see what was broken with it

And I don’t really understand the “upgrades.” It’s all buzz words like sleek, and stylish and all that jazz. Basically it’s bigger font, more white space and a weird logo. I’ll get used to it, but I’m not going to stop coming here because of the design. I just didn’t see the need for a change.

up top, but are these sbn changes or selected persalized changes?

if selecteed, color is kinda bland, do like the “wider” look as the main and most articles look like they have more visible space, maybe that is just a color illusion though

I really, really thought the servers at school were FUBARed yet again.

The ads are starting to get intrusive

yeah you need to pay the light bills but when the members have to pause to figure out where the content ends and the ads start the experience gets downgraded. It looks like SBN is trying to see how much juice they can squeeze out of this grapefruit.

i like the ads

they try to read your mind, unsuccessfully…. but still. when the t-shirt contest was on, suddently there are t-shirt ads. fucking detroit? the team gear is detroit, not the blues, and i don’t care what secret some st. louis mom discovered unless it is about Andy Murray (and it never is)

i wonder if we went out of our way to screw things the ad-bots would start giving us geritol ads or perhaps, traffic law hotline ads, 1-800 betts off announcements?

there’s so much weird shit posted here it’s starting to blend in with the oddball ads the ad software suggest for the site. Us geriatrics need simple, it’s hard enough to remember what we came into the room for.
