Thursday links: Where we hope the Blues can touch a Flame even if it's red hot
What a shitty Wednesday. Arrived an hour early for a football game I was covering. The team I cover lost making kids and grown men cry. I had to drive to freaking Iowa to get WiFi and, oh, I got pulled over for doing 35 in a 30 -- even though I though the speed limit was 45. Then the WiFi wouldn't work. Sigh. You know what can make things better? Blues hockey.

Maybe, maybe the Blues can play like this tonight.

A ticket for doing 5 over the posted speed limit?
I’ve worked with law enforcement for almost 8 years now…. Ur lucky to even get pulled over at 10 over. Most departmets SOP’s won’t even back the officer up on his/her radar/laser certification unless the offender is doing 8 over.
So, if you got the ticket for speeding… You must have been a total dick to the cop. Haha.

Wow, yeah...
I’m afraid I’d have to be that guy and go challenge that shit. The cop probably won’t even show up, and seriously – do they really need the money that badly to where that’s even a legit reason to pull someone over?
The most I’ve gotten pulled over for was 14… the cops usually tend not to notice 5 over. Too much paperwork, for too little reward, and here you don’t even get points on your license for it.

Small-town cops...
… tend to write more tickets for out-of-towners than for locals. They figure the chance of the ticket actually being contested in court is pretty small.
I got pulled over in south-central Missouri a few years ago. The officer not only gave me the ticket, he gave me a prepaid envelope to mail in the fine.

Oh, wow.
Prepaid? That’s kind of nice, except for the fact that he gave you a ticket.
The cops here troll for people with out of state plates, or like you said… if you’re in a small town, watch out. Our plates have the county on the bottom, so if you’re in central to south Georgia, and they see a metro Atlanta county, they go nuts. I guess they assume that we have money since we can afford fancy stuff like paved roads and stop lights and whatnot.

I once
got stopped going 65ish in a 60 (it actually may have been closer to 70) on MO-54 north of I-70 …at the time, we still had our Virginia plates since we had just moved BACK to Missouri. The state trooper asked where we were going.. I quickly said we were driving through Mexico on our way to Paris…. he knew we were “local” at that point and gave us a pass.
I love Missouri, where else can you drive from Mexico to Paris in an hour?
You can't call me a fair weather Blues fan.

i think this is the case
i was really nice and friendly. i tried to explain that i was on deadline and in an unfamiliar place. i told him i was looking at street signs for main street and the last speed limit sign i saw was 45. he saw my license which still says im from pacific (probably about 3 hours away) and was like yeah … you’re gonna get a citation.
it’s bull shit but what are you gonna do?

I remember when i started driving my mom told me in the woodson terrace area to do the speed limit because they pull people over for doing 2 over the limit lol,
I am friends with cops, I am about to go be a cop, i wont be that dick that pulls people over for that, but my biggest pet peeve is people who dont use their turn signals…WATCH OUT!!!

Watching the hit on the OHL player
the hit was clean, the player was gliding in for the last 10 or more feet. I don’t understand why the 20yo was still in the juniors but it was a clean hit.
I hope the 16yo kid gets better soon.
No soccer or work tonight. No will the Blues get off their asses and win.
Will be here tonight folks after missing the last 2. My post average took a hit while out of town last weekend

I promise I'm not avoiding you. :)
I probably won’t be here except for the last few minutes, since I have to go watch the Thrashers hopefully take care of the BJs. I am recording tonight’s game, though… I hope that it’s a lot better than the past few. I watch hockey to enjoy myself, not to wind up in the fetal position on a nightly basis.

Some of the games
are as painful childbirth of my second son.
Nothing can be as painful as the first son.

Do you use that as the "mom guilt trip?"
Mom still fusses at me that I was late and managed to get all upside down and discombobulated. Actually, she says that explains a lot in general.

Oh most certainly LOL, it's a Mom priveledge
First son was 2 wks late and did not want to come into this scary world. He is still very cautious, like to size up situations….
Son #2 was 7 wks early, practically fell out , hit the ground running and is still an independent cuss.

Mom just said I liked it b/c it was warm and comfortable...
… and that’s why I refuse to get out of bed in the AM.
I can see her argument…

ok im not tryin to be an asshole
but that OHL hit was not boarding.. the player was facing the play when he got hit the only problem i had with it was he did bring his hands up and make a little contact with his head.. so you give him a roughing call and since he got hurt on the play i could even be ok with a game misconduct.. but how in the flying fuck did he get suspended for the season??? thats a horrible ruling.. hell the nhl coulda done better than that
If you have a donkey and i have a chicken and youre donkey ate my chickens feet what would you have.... 2 feet of my cock in youre ass!! haha
by bleedblue2009 on Nov 5, 2009 11:56 AM CST reply actions 0 recs
maybe charging
the player spun around before getting hit. one of the problems with the bording call is that players feel safe putting their back to the play when they shouldn’t feel safe OR turn away from the play. the reason for the suspension may have been the injury but also
07 and 08 —169 pen minutes each season vs 5 points.

McSorley ?
That’s going back a ways … but THAT was the benchmark for hockey violence, until the Bertuzzi-Moore hit.
