Blues Blow 3-0 Lead

I'm not going to say that the Blues thought the game was over, but David Backes and Keith Tkachuk were caught smiling on the bench after he nearly got a hat trick. It all seemed a little too easy.

And then Gilbert Brule scored. And he scored again. Suddenly it was a game. And then it wasn't with four third-period goals for the Oilers. And then it was over 5-3.

Shocking.

I'll end this wrapup jus like the Bl

Not the answer

I’m worried for a kneejerk reaction after this collapse… either a firing or a trade. Checketts cant be happy. I imagine these sorts of losses at home piss him off more than gritty wins on the road make him happy.

We have the talent. Last year we proved to have the coaching and the drive. I cant reconcile the team that played a gritty game against the Sharks a week ago with the one I’ve watched this week (I felt that we were lucky to get that win in DET 2 days ago). Cmon Blues, get it together.

Let's hire Coach Oshie.

Father coach, son player…… wouldn’t that be somethin.

It's not all on Murray

I’m sure he was screaming " clear the puck" like the rest of us. Just can’t figure out what happened. The drunk guy in our row who could barely walk didn’t look so bad by the end of the game.

hey, a major trade might work

and I’d be happy if that was THE THING that got us to the next level…. but my experience watching this league tells me that emotional knee-jerk reactions to games like this usually end up biting you in the ass more often than actually solving anything.

More often than note, the BIG MOVE makes you feel better in the short term, but doesn’t really fix anything in the long term.

embarassing loss for sure No net no sticks no goal at next practise. they are figure skaters right! they are playing that way. brian boytano should be the coach. put some music on and laugh your asses off at the Mills for practise They play like figure skaters treat them that way because that was the worse game i have ever seen this team play. any tesm for that matter. where is the spirit. where is the hitting after it turns 3 1. where is more hitting after it turns. 3 2. where is skull cracking after 3 3. and where is the emotion. Figure skating babies is what they are. be a man you bitches. and start taking some blame murray step down cause they obviously are not playing for you.

the COL game was far worse..

it was a bad GAME, as opposed to a bad period.

It was worse because they should of learned their lesson from the CO game and all the other games that the teams have scored on us with less than a minute to go in a period….They should never of let this happen!!! No excuses, this game was way worse, way more demoralizing than the CO game. One bad period can be worse than a whole game, just the fact that they played good in the first and second makes this worse. The game was there for the taken

still wasnt as bad as that florida game on halloween, that one was truly awful.

by bzgea2 on Dec 12, 2009 12:05 AM CST up reply actions

yeah

I dont know what was worse, the lazy, weak-assed play in the 3rd period, or the fact the Blues responded with even more ineffective play. Did someone’s puppy die during the 2nd intermission? (I’ve got my money on someone on our formerly effective checking line)

http://www.stlouisgametime.com/

by cold on Dec 11, 2009 11:56 PM CST up reply actions

I didn't think it was lazy.

But I did think it was scared. They were hoping to hang on, not initiating.

by gallagher on Dec 12, 2009 12:03 AM CST up reply actions

To me, the Blues looked visibly sluggish on their skates for much of the 2nd half of the game, even before the 1st goal allowed. There were some turnovers and weak clearing attempts I can only describe as lazy. And where was playing the body?

But I will admit, I’m pissed and disgusted right now.

Unbelievable

I am in a state of shock still…

Just what the fuck…they let up a goal at the very end of the period then they went into the locker room saying oh shit its happening again. And what did they do? They let it happen again and again and again and AGAIN. 4 goals in the 3rd. People started leaving and booing (i refuse to because im not a fair weather fucktard i will yell an scream but not boo the team)

so i see major shit coming down if they pull this bullshit tuesday. The last brett hull night they played piss poor cost kitchen his job. Something will happen. They just gave up and rolled over and made delorian or whatever tge fuckers name was look like an all star

fucking piss poor tonight

and no eascalator ( they are “waiting” on a “part”) – they need to pay the extra $50 for the rush delivery/ overnight it 2 months is way too long. When they put up lit signs for the stairs up tothe 3rd floor that tells u its gonna be a while

Absolutely agree

If any team deserved booing by their hometown fans, it was the Blues tonight.

My only regret is that we should’ve started booing with more than 2 minutes to go. In fact, the general fan apathy of the “sellout” crowd (ha ha, right), was almost as sad as the team on the ice… but its hard to blame fans whove paid good money to watch their team play terribly at home, night after night.

After sitting through the shitshow on Monday in the lower bowl and this game tonight firsthand, I’m watching on TV for a couple months…. and saving my ticket $$ for single malt scotch.

by cold on Dec 11, 2009 11:52 PM CST up reply actions

The debate

on whether its acceptable or not to boo one’s own team has been repeated innumerable times, so I’m hoping we can avoid that here. But I think we can all agree that this was a historically awful collapse by the Blues. I mean, I was at the debacle of green shirt night last year where the Wings beat us 5-0 or whatever. But to blow a 3-0 lead after playing solid hockey for a period and a half… its just pathetic. Inexecusable. 5. Straight. Goals.

And of course EVERYBODY around us in the standings gain points.... except us.

Detroit 4, Anaheim 3 – Overtime (3 point game)
Tampa Bay 1, Colorado 2 – Shootout
Minnesotta 2, Calgary 1 – Overtime (3 point game)
Dallas 3, San Jose 2 – Shootout (3 point game)

…..these 3 point games for teams in the western conf. are killing us. And it seems to happen every night.

So, how bout that Taylor Hall!

That was a joke. No killing me please.

Look, I’m at a cross-roads. I’m the general of the “don’t panic” army. I’ve been among those who just don’t understand why people want to get rid of Murray this quick. Now, however, I do understand it… just not sure if I agree with it. The players have to be held accountable too. In this case, what Murray was saying was obviously working, and from everything I heard, he said exactly what he should have said: Don’t let them back in this game, stay focused, keep the puck in the offensive zone. If the players are playing like they are scared to lose, your going to lose, and that’s not Murrays failing.

Something has to change though. Man, going to the Blues training facility tommorow with my cousin isn’t gonna be as fun if it were after a win… I still think either Murray is fired or someone is traded by the time we get there tommorow. Lets just hope whatever we do we get good compensation and it sends a god damned message.

Well I missed the game thanks to work

But I was getting text updates from a friend. 1-0, 2-0, 3-0 — I got pretty happy. And then 3-2, 3-2 and then 3-3. I got in the work car to head back to work and heard goals four and five. I punched the steering wheel and turned off the radio.

I’m fed up with this team. I’m tired of the shitty, inconsistent effort. I’m tired of the bed-shitting on a semi-regular basis. I’m tired of the “They’re young excuses.” I’m tired of counting on vets like Kariya and Tkachuk to fucking do something. And I’m tired of the Andy Murray show — The constant line changes. The benching of young guys while old guys who suck (Kariya) just get moved off the power play. And the his shitty power plays — I’m tired of Brad Winchester wasting space and B.J. Crombeen riding the coattails of Steen and Silent Jay and being a key cog.

Now, this isn’t my farewell to this team. I’m here for the long haul but fuck man, I want to see some changes. I want this team to play like they did from January to the playoffs. This team, as its built, is better than last year’s club. They should start fucking acting like it.

by averagejoe on Dec 12, 2009 1:08 AM CST reply actions

well, if youre tired of the “they’re young” excuse maybe come back in like three years? hate to be snarky but they’re young getting younger, really with petro and eller coming into the fold. youre dead on about the powerplay though, as long as it still sucks expect us to get the shit kicked out of us on a nightly basis with teams being unafraid to go to the box against us.

by bzgea2 on Dec 12, 2009 1:35 AM CST up reply actions

nah

im not gonna bail. im just tired of whenever things go wrong, i hear that this team is young. this team is a year old than last year’s team. from january until the playoffs, no one played harder and better hockey than basically this group. now a year older, and im still hearing its a young team. pittsburgh was a young team last year. chicago is a young team.

the blues just need to flat-out play harder and better on a nightly basis.

Geeze.

I hope from the Thrashers boards with mental deficients talking about trading Kovalchuk because he’s slumping and ignoring the fact that he’s the leagues leading goal scorer since 2001, and I hop on over here to see an ass-nugget’s ass- nugget talking about tanking and thinking about the draft?

When the HELL did hockey get so freaking whiny? Mike Millbury needs to focus his “pansification” argument on the fans. Whiny ass emo fucktards. It’s one thing to get angry at a team’s play, even finally reach the breaking point where you boo it, but when you start throwing in the towel and threatening to cut yourself, and you’ll REALLY DO IT THIS TIME zomg! Well, I hate to say it, but go fuck yourself. Or, better yet, try being a fan of a team for an extended period of time, grow as a person and come back and talk to those of us who have been following this team all of their lives.

Sorry – weather sucks here, I have a headache, and my birthday weekend extravaganza is already off to a shit tastic start, and will probably get worse tonight when the Thrashers lose like they do every year when I see them for my b-day. I need to take my annoyance out on someone… might as well be some buttmunch on the internet.

This isn't an endorsement or a throwing-under-the-bus of Andy Murray.

However. If last month I had heard AM had gotten fired, I would’ve lost my shit and probably thrown a solid object through the bedroom window.

Now? If it happens, I probably won’t bat an eyelash.

Personally, I don’t think he SHOULD be fired, just as much as I don’t think Roboto should be wearing the C (another story for another time). But one month later, it’s difficult to build an argument to justify being overly pissed about the suggestion anymore. If it happens, it happens.

Because

He hasn’t coached enough heart into them? We have plenty of preparation, we have a game plan, we just dont execute. We turned into a bunch of pussies in the third apparently and I fail to see how thats Andys fault. You can’t coach heart. Blame the people in the locker room not keeping everyone focused in the third period and not making sure we played to win. Usually that responsibility gets laid at the feet of the captain but apparently we are short on one of those right now.

by Icion on Dec 12, 2009 9:20 PM CST up reply actions

You missed the point.

I don’t WANT him to be fired. But I can no longer come up with an argument for NOT firing him. I admit, it’s confusing, convoluted and weird . . . but . . . it is what it is. I agree – something has to change in the locker room, but if you can find a reasonable match with any of our dead-weight players to another club without the other club feeling like they’re getting shafted, more power to you.
