12/16 Road Music: @ Chicago Blackhawks

The Blues won last night, at home, and now they take the show on the road. This is the first meeting with the division-leading Chicago Blackhawks. I had to choke back some bile just typing that last sentence. The 'Hawks have won 3 of their last 5 games (twice in OT), and are coming off a 4-0 win against Tampa Bay on Sunday. Our ol' friend Patty "Twenny Cent" Kane got a little banged up, but all indicators are that he'll be playing tonight. He and Captain Serious Jonathan Toews and NHL Whore Marian Hossa form one of the more formidable lines in the NHL.

After testing our mettle against one division leader Tuesday night, we get to do it all over again, on the road, against these guys. There's no secret to this: keep fighting until the battle's won. Never relax, never step back. Keep Pushin' On.

REO Speedwagon/ Keep Pushin'

I know that there's at least one Broke University Pupil that wont mind me drawing from the REO well again. Really, though, these lyrics are perfect for our situation, particularly the second verse...

Goin through all the changes
I made so many mistakes
oh yes I did
Tryin to leave behind the heartaches
And sometimes I think
I was a little bit crazy, oh yeah
Whoa, I keep pushin' on

and the third..

Well it's comin' together
I finally feel like a man
oh yes I do
I never thought that I'd be where I am
Oh everyday I wake a little bit higher
Whoa I keep pushin' on, oh yeah

...we've come so far, but there's a long, long way to go still. We're not there yet....

I have a thought...

While last night’s win was a great one (no, not him), I had an idea for Home games.
I thought of this yesterday afternoon, but was not able to get it posted before the game.

Let’s do some home music for home games…. seems to work for road games, yet, we have nothing for home games…
Thoughts?

You can't call me a fair weather Blues fan.

Soooooo I tip the higher end of the age scale in these parts, bit not as much as some of the folks here.

For me, the Blackhawks are, and will always be, THE true enemy. I cannot stand those pricks. So with all the gusto you younguns say it about Detroit, I say, “Fuck the Blackhawks.”

/glad that Cujo told Angellllllllla last night that the four game playoff sweep of the Blackhawks as his best Blues memory.

Let's go Blues!!!

Hear hear.

Always hated them more than the Wings. That being said, a lot of Blackhawks people follow me on Twitter (why in the hell they’d follow a Blues blogger is beyond me, other than keeping tabs on the enemy), but they’re all actually pretty ok people who are only minorly less sarcastic than we are and can actually heckle and take it, unlike other fans who are on the perma-rag.

That being said, Black the Fuckhawks.

I can't tell you how happy I am

to see this, because as a Blackhawk fan I couldn’t care less about the Wings but I really, really hate you inbreeders. Frankly, I was afraid of coming here because I thought maybe it didn’t run both ways but now I feel a lot better about the world.

Frankly I’ll think a lot less of you people if you don’t do a good job of giving us the business on your blog, but mostly I’m just kidding I couldn’t possibly think less of you people. At least when it’s all over we can go back to laughing at the cubs. Losers.

We have to keep tabs on our division rivals somehow.

BTW, that pic of Hoss and the goat cracks me up every time I see it – I give him credit; he actually had a good sense of humor about it. I really don’t hate him for leaving ATL – I would have too. Now the stuff going on in Pittsburgh, yeah, I think they have more grounds to dislike him than other teams. He kind of puts his foot in his mouth a lot.

But I can give you some what of a explanation….the Huskers are the only sport Nebraska has. There’s no pro anything….and so they have to cheer for something.

This is quite a moral conflict for me in some sense.

Unlike most St. Louis folks, I’m not a pure bled St. Louis fan. I don’t hide by Bears, Bulls, and Cubs colors. And I’ve always got shit for my fandom. I’ve activly gotten into fist fights back around 97-98 when I argued that Sosa was a better overall player then Big Mac (Which he was. Though they are both douchebags, and Sosa is becoming hte Michael Jackson of the baseball world). I was even a batkid for the Cubs a couple times when I was younger. But that doesn’t really affect my view of the Blackhawks.

Which remains solidly in the “Fuck the Blackhawks, Lets go Blues” side of the equation.

Wow, based on your poor choice of teams, you seem to be allergic to Commissioner’s Trophies and the Stanley Cup (Since you, your dad, and your grandpa have never seen one, I should point out that the Commissioner’s Trophy is awarded to the winner of the World Series).
To stay on topic, I resent the idea that “Chicago sports fans like goats associated with their teams.” Chicago sports fans are people who cheer for the White Sox, Bulls, Bears, and/or Blackhawks, none of which have ever been associated with goats.

Ok, um...

A) Last I checked, the Cubs were a Chicago team, or do you no longer claim them?

B) Out of those teams that you listed, the only one to win a championship in 10 years is the White Sox.

C) Fans from our city tend not to scream racial slurs at our own players from the bleachers, nor do we throw tasty adult beverages

D) Going back to the Cubs, well… there’s always the Curse of the Goat… or that time that someone hung goat entrails over the statue of Harry Carey.

And honestly, when you haven’t won the Cup since 1961, well… God, can you really, seriously talk smack? Leafs fans wear their drought like a self-depreciating badge of honor. Methinks you need to do the same.

Posting from work and getting ready to head out

The boss is off today so I got to keep up sort of.
I like loafing at work.
Sssshhhhhhh, don’t tell the boss she may not watch the grandkids when I need her.
Mom can be a sarcastic vindictive bitch sometimes.
Hmmmm, maybe that’s where I got it from.

My favorite part is the Red Wings fan asking who has the cup and who has the best players

If it wasn’t so old I’d respond “Pittsburg….. and Pittsburg”

This game's on the NHL Net, isn't it?

Farg. No cable means I have to dig for an on-line feed and can’t watch it in split screen HD with the Thrashers game. kick

Screw you, Dish Network… and can someone please explain to me why the NHL’s website can’t stream games from the NHL’s network??

Ugh, and the Thrashers game is actually blacked out for once.

I don’t wanna watch it on SportSouth’s feed from somewhere. Of course, the alternate’s Florida’s, soooo…

SRSLY GYZ

I mean really, how can your record be that bad at home? That doesn’t make much sense.

Anywho, I think this should be a good one, however there is no way with the amount of shots we are bound to put up that The Conk Block will survive.

Aside from Blues’ fans imminent hillbillery, this should be a pretty good game, as both teams usually come out to play.

Go Hawks

Keystone Lake Zamboni falls through thin ice

A Zamboni took a dip in North America's largest groomed skating pond at Keystone Resort tonight.
A driver was grooming the lake at about 6:15 p.m., when the ice cracked and the 7,000-pound machine began to sink at about 6:15 p.m. As a precaution, skaters were cleared from another area of the 5-acre pond, resort spokesman Ryan Whaley said. The driver was not injured.
There was no word immediately on how soon the rink might re-open, but staff will examine the ice and remove the Zamboni Wednesday, Whaley said.
"They'll take it out and we'll see how it is," Whaley said of the machine and the safety of the ice around the crater.
With a lake that large, other areas could reopen immediately, he said.

Once it dries out, the machine is likely salvageable, he said.
Kenneth Waesche snapped a photo of the sunken ice machine when he stopped by Lakeside Village for a pickup game of hockey. His wife planned to do some skating.
Waesche said that the "thin ice" sign in the foreground of the photo was some distance away from where the Zamboni went in.
The lake is typically open from Dec. 18 to March. 28 depending on the weather, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
