"Yar-mul-son"

One wonders if Kelly the (much) Lesser will continue to mispronounce that name once Simon “Yal-mur-son” (Hjalmarsson) comes over to play for the Blues.

Kelly, ya dickweed… your dad wouldn;t have mispronounced that name…

that seems to be the new bandwagon…. fire Murray.

.... formerly "Tim" of StLouisGameTime.com

by CrossCheckRaise on Dec 16, 2009 9:22 PM CST up reply actions

after the Edm game

we were all faced with the reality that it is either our talented youth or the coach. . . alot of folk chose to stick w/ the kids. . . cause they may be 21 year old punks, who need to learn to listen to authority and take criticism like men . . . they are talented, and we want to see them develop here (or in peoria) not on the Hawks or Detroit’s benches

by breibird on Dec 16, 2009 9:26 PM CST up reply actions

Yes ...

sooooo… why is it an either/or situation. Why is it “blow up the team” or “fire the coach” and nothing else?

How about “stick with the patient progress that’s gotten us this far, which is pretty damn good considering where we were a few years ago”

granted … it takes a lot longer to type than “fire murray” ….

.... formerly "Tim" of StLouisGameTime.com

by CrossCheckRaise on Dec 16, 2009 9:30 PM CST up reply actions

youre patience is impressive

but im not a fan of the two steps forward, one step back system. last year was a big step and i want to go forward more. i dont think murray is the guy who can get this team going. i think his message, with his style, has worn out. again, you cant fire the team and all of this is their fault — the sloppy play, the lack of effort and such.

new voice, new energy better playing (hopefully).

by averagejoe on Dec 16, 2009 9:32 PM CST up reply actions

last year MAY have been an aberration …. after all, we got to the playoffs, but what did we do with it? Also, just because we made the playoffs last year (sooner than anyone expected, i might add, in this ‘rebuilding program’) doesn’t mean that we HAVE to make the playoffs again or else we’ve regressed.

its the players. oshie doesnt seem to have it this year. berglund is a shell of himself. i really think murrays message is going in one ear and out the other. the players seems to have taken a step back as well as the team.

true, they team probably shouldnt have made the playoffs last year, but they did. they did it by working hard and giving it all every night, every shift. i dont see that from the players this season.

i dont think, long-term, murray is the answer. i dont think hes the one to lead us to the promised land. if you look at his LA career, it started off well and then tanked. he comes in and gets the most out the least, but after a while guys get tired of his antics.

by averagejoe on Dec 16, 2009 9:39 PM CST up reply actions

1) I chalk that up to a team-wide soph slump … by which I mean that the novelty has worn off the young’ns. opponents know us better, the schedule becomes more routine, less “holy shit, I’m in the NHL finally” … and we start to buy into the hype instead of taking it “one game at a time”. Also, i think the expectations have out-paced the player development.

2) is it to be assumed, then, that Murray learned absolutely nothing from his experiences in LA (or since)? I’m sure he’s not the same coach as then, so what may or may not have happened (that gets repeated so often, how much is real and how much is just accepted legend?) doesn’t necessarily apply here.

I like Murray . . . I do

but this whole season, I have seen the youth of the team responding to him less and less . . .
I see a lack of respect and trust on both sides. the kids do not trust Murray’s judgement or calls. . . and it shows in the way that they play. On the flip side Murray does not trust these kids to play the way that they always have. . . Perron is not allowed to be creative on the ice, EVER. . . cause if he makes a mistake, it seems that the whole game is lost.
And Berg is punished if he is not strong on the board’s regardless of his offensive play. and the older guys on the team are not treated the same way, there is no consistency. I get that the “vet” have proved themselves over the course of their career, but at this moment they are, like the youth, just one of the many MEN on this team. . . and you have to have some consistency across the locker room

did you watch yesterday's game

oh no, most people did not. . . he was leashed for the fist 45 mins. did all he was told . . . nothing more . . . dump and chase . . .
It was the most uninspired I had ever seen him, and I am glad he was able to play tonight. . . even if the game went south quick . . .
I would even bet you might hear something negative about his play tonight, from a coach or two

I was not dogging Perry

I am pissed off at the way Murray (and the rest of the coaching staff) are handling him during this period of development.
When I say he was uninspired, I believe it is because he is trying to prove he can play the way he is told to, but in doing so it limits what he does in front of the net. For the first half of the season perron has been on/off point on the PP. . . why would anyone put him out there, he is brilliant behind and in front of the net. I believe if you sent him on the ice with a “get in front and put it in” speech, he could and would, with a whole lot less of his “sloppy defensive play”

why is ON or OFF the best we can expect?
It is what they have shown, but I expect a whole lot more out of this team. . . HAWKS should NEVER dominate you EVER, your heart should be left out on the ice every time we play, but the rest of us should be left out there when it is a central team. . . you come all or nothing. If you are not going to show up, then don’t stay home and practice, cause it would save us a whole lot of money

I noticed that combo last night, too.

I am interested to hear more about the idea put out there earlier today that his teammates don’t like Perron. It might fit into what I’ve seen, I guess being this far away I don’t hear/see much evidence of that.

by Liut! on Dec 16, 2009 9:55 PM CST up reply actions

they make an effort as a team though

Paulie and his GF took the kids out to din a few nights ago. . . so it might be a bit over hyped on this whole “dislike” vibe . . . and I would bet money, that they guys who are put off by Perron, are so because of his intensity and obsession w/ the game

No shame in that. Gifted kids have a problem relating to non gifted people… I’m sure it’s the same in hockey – by gifted I mean psychologically and naturally on a different level more than practicing gifted.

so i see a theme here

which has also played out true through experience so far. . .
but in terms of intellectually gifted people and their choice of sports, I often find that they are drawn to hockey. and all of the comments about everyone’s past seem to reflect some truth in that theory.
I am not saying that “the gifted” do not like or appreciate other sports or that Sevants can not like Basketball, but I have always noticed a correlation between the two

by namshite on Dec 16, 2009 10:10 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah cam flashed an elbow back

It barely connected, theres 10 layers of pads between the both of them. The elbow did absolutely nothing, im aware they both know what they were doing. The lunging crosscheck to the back of the numbers usually gets you a penalty though so dont act like Huet did absolutely nothing but get abused there.

by Icion on Dec 16, 2009 10:11 PM CST up reply actions

no, my point is....

if someone elbows me at the end of a game for no fucking reason, I’m gonna bag him, period, and so is any goaltender in the NHL. Cam’s just lucky that wasn’t belfour, because he would have taken off his leg below the knee with a slash.

by namshite on Dec 16, 2009 10:13 PM CST up reply actions

it was not about intent

our Offence had the puck, and cam was trying to keep his place in front of the net, so he could possible get a point this season. Players pull the crap Cam did every game, all game. . . Huet lost his mind there. and at first (since it was in the edge of the screen) I thought he did sweep Cam, but then I saw the full on shove from behind

by breibird on Dec 16, 2009 10:18 PM CST up reply actions

read my post below

I don’t know one goalie who wouldn’t have done the same thing

by namshite on Dec 16, 2009 10:19 PM CST up reply actions

really, cause I think MOST would have refrained

Cam really did not do anything out of the ordinary. Had it been Walt, no one would have noticed, and if Huet had reacted the way he did (on Walt), you would be up in arms too. The issue, seems to be that Cam is not allowed to play in the same way as other player. Something that is acceptable among the majority is seen as an intent to injure by Cam. . . That is a crap way to treat a player. . .
of course Cam was going to go after Huet after the shove from behind, cause it was dirty . . . though I wish he would have refrained form retaliating, I can not blame him. . .
The NHL talks about “keeping the players safe”, Huet can see Cam in front of him. . . there is no surprise at a swat from a forward in front of the net, trying to hold his spot . Huet can see the whole of it, and avoid getting hit in the face. . . Cam is blind in this situation. . . a lot like the boarding and cross checking calls, there is no way to protect himself. . . that is why it is dirty

Huet gave jannsen a weak shove then janssen flashes a meaningless elbow. If it was a defenseman instead of huet neither guy would remember making contact 10 seconds later. Huet went off about it.

by Icion on Dec 16, 2009 10:15 PM CST up reply actions

huet didn't shove shit, he came out to challenge the shooter and bumped into him

but that’s not the point.

I’m gonna make this crystal clear….
If any opposing team’s player throws an elbow at the goalie for any reason at all, that goalie and the defensemen are gonna retaliate, and for good reason. And for you to act like it was such a big deal that Huet went at him is comical, because EVERY SINGLE GOALIE in the league would have done the same or worse.

by namshite on Dec 16, 2009 10:18 PM CST up reply actions

Pffft

Huet gave him a push out of the crease. It wasnt much but it wasnt him sliding up to the defender either. So janssen tosses an elbow that does nothing? So what, keep on spiking jannsen till a defender comes along to clear him out. It went from shoving to a stick in the numbers pretty damn quick and Huet was the one stepping it up.

hes a blackhawk fan living in st. lou

he likes hockey, so he roots for the blues when they arent playing the hawks. hildy does it with the thrash. if i moved to anaheim, id root for the ducks just because i like hockey.

life isnt all black and white

there are shades of gray. hildy writes a freaking column for this site, but shes a die-hard thrashers fan. you can like two teams. the world wont end. its bigamy and i think its gross, but im not gonna kick out someone who roots for the team 77 games a year.

I love the Thrash...

… but I’m in love with the Blues.

And I really can’t believe that I not only said that, but related it to hockey.

where the FUCK do you come off with that BULLSHIT

Mike’s been around for a while now, and has been a welcome part of the GDT. he’s entitled to cheer for his other team as much as he wants, when they play each other.

You are outta line, dude.

Exactly.

If I wasn’t forced to move down here, I probably wouldn’t give a flip about the Thrashers aside from Kovy and possibly Bogosian and Enstrom.

But being here and being around them all the time, and going to games since the start… yeah, I’m a Thrashers fan. But I still got fussed at for wearing my Blues jersey when we came down here. :)

But I’m not really worried about it. The people whose opinions I respect here (you, Brad Lee, CrossCheckRaise, Donut King, Hildy, etc) get it. If anyone doesn’t, fuck ’em. :)

Aaaaaaand, I'm out.

Before we take the frustrations we have with the team out on each other and completely implode, I suppose I should probably beg out and hit the sack. I have an un-busy day of final exams tomorrow.

Which pretty much means I’ll be writing crap, reading the news all day, and possibly playing games on my iPod.

Best part about the links gig?

The spam. The accounts name is St. Louis Gametime so you know it’s not a real person. Spam that came today:

Dearly Beloved.

Calvary greetings, I am Mrs. Victoria Balli, I am a nationality of the United Kingdom, and I am presently hospitalized, due to my illness. I am 59 years old and I was diagnosed with Esophageal Cancer for about two years. I am a widow to Late Mr. William Balli. You see, my husband was once the Managing Director of Shell Oil Company in South Africa, where we spent most of our lives and I have served the Lord all through my life.

and ….

I selected you after searching the Internet for this purpose and prayed over it, for the fact that I always go to God in prayers in situation like this, because He is the Alfa and Omega. I am willing to donate half of my husbands wealth to you for the development of evangelism and also as aids for the less privileged around you rather than allow my husbands relatives to use my husband hard earned funds ungodly. You may contact my lawyer, James Cole, with the specified address-:

Rec'd

I got a call on Tuesday to fill in for some Broomball action tonight out at Steinberg Rink, thus my missing the GDT.

My apologies for missing what appears to be a raucous trail of comments from both sides.

And if you’re the type that has never been able to skate and get the chance to play some broomball, it is the most fun I’ve had in a long time.

ahh...

It was good to see Barret Jackman get what was coming to him tonight. I thought it was ironic how he picked on a smaller guy in Kane (and got away without a penalty), and then started chasing the guy who hit him later on, until he realized it was Byfuglien (who has 4 inches and 50 pounds on him), and then wimped out and let Crombeen and Winchester jump in for him. Imagine how surprised I was to notice that that assclown wears an “A”. No wonder the Blues are tied for last in the West. Look on the bright side: at least the Cardinals will have started playing by the 2nd week in April.

That retarded theory woul make sense

IF he played for chicago and didnt know how to read like the rest of your team. Here in St. Louis our players know what those letters on the backs of jerseys mean. Your announcers are clueless, your just as stupid for believing them, your team will fail miserably this year and you will spend the next 5 trying to unfuck your salary. No one loves you, not even jesus.
