Lightning at Blues GDT

Home again, home again.

Tonight the Blues play their third game in four days. After beating Cal and Gary at home on Brett Hull Night, things were looking up. Then, a night later, the consistently inconsistent Blues defecated the bed against a far-superior Chicago team.

Tonight the Blues will be taking on the Lightning. As an Eastern Conference team that I see once in a blue moon, I can honestly say I know nothing about them. I know their owners are the dudes behind the "Saw" movies, so you can hate them for that. I know the have Martin St. Louis, a player who the Blues should have gotten many years ago. They also have every Candadiens' fan wet dream in Vinny Lecavalier. Oh and Steve Stamkos is pretty good.

Fun fact about the Lightning, they don't play in Tampa Bay. Tampa Bay is a body of water. The city is Tampa.

Honestly, the Blues should win this game. Tampa is not a good team. They have allowed 104 goals this year and have fewer points than the Blues. No game in December is a must-win, but this is two points the Blues really can't afford to piss away.

This is your Game Day Thread. Play nice with each other. Remember, at the end of the day, we're all Blues fans. Even Mike Martin and his crazy bigamist allegiances.

Do work.

LOL!

Their owners are the ones behind the “Saw” movies? I loved “Saw” – the first one – mainly because Michael Emerson played Zep. But…fuck em.

I won’t be around for the game so go Blues!

Last season they had their goalies in Saw masks to promote the stupid movie.

So, yeah, we can tell where their interests lie, and I have a funny reason it doesn’t have anything to do with hockey.

LETS GO BLUES! then

I’m kinda in the the disgruntled party, and I’m kinda dreading were we go from here. I’d rather take this season and be bad then trade away a good piece for either A: A rental or B: A player that’s gonna kill our cap space for the next 3-4 years.

you know

im torn as well. if they’re going to suck, id rather epically fail and get a top-5 pick. i dont want a middling team that finishes 10th. and i really dont want another first round sweep. im almost tempted to just say lets get younger. play petro (when he gets back), play eller — just be awful.

See, I'm kinda mixed bag on this

I think Eller could only gain from a full season in the AHL. In fact, I’m in agreement with the idea of Berglund could a year in Peoria to sharpen his skills.

Though I do think some of our youngsters should play, I just don’t think that Eller is in drastic need of a callup. I will say we really need to get Drazenovic up to the NHL atleast for a while. His contracts up at the end of the year, and i’d like to see what we have with him.

I think a lot of people forget that the reason we got so hot last year was that there was no pressure on the young guys. We were in last, so we just kinda let them do their thing, and adjust on their own time. I think a good deal of our kids are victoms of their own expectations at this point.

I know Walt has a LBI, but come the hell on. Berglund’s never going to fix what’s wrong with him sitting in the press box.

yeah was about to comment that it doesn't make sense, figuring as how we only have 1 forward scratch available, don't we?

1. Backes
2. Boyes
3. McDonald
4. Tkachuk
5. Kariya
6. Oshie
7. Perron
8. Berglund
9. McClement
10. Crombeen
11. Winchester
12. Cam Smash
13. Steenalizer

I was wondering if we called someone up when I wasn’t paying attention.

Walt scratched twice in a row though? That’s interesting.

Is that he doesn’t always just be a homer. Him saying there wasn’t a penalty there, but we’ll take it anyway is quite refreshing from announcers who think everything his team does is clean and everything against them is dirty.

I'm already working on it...

I like Tyler Seguin out of the “elite” group. Taylor Hall would be OK, but I just like Seguin a little better.

For God’s sake, do NOT draft Folwer or Gormley. Not that they’re not quality players, but if this team does not get an elite scoring forward with their next high draft pick, people will be storming the Scottrade Center with pitchforks and torches… and I’ll be in the lead.

yeah

im just really sick of the Keith Tkachuk is the great leader bs we’ve been fed. I don’t know how he is in the room, I’m not there, but age and experience does not make you a leader. I do know, that he was here when Brewer was named Captain and he got passed over. I’m not saying hes not a leader, but I’m not saying he is just because hes old.

Walt was brought back to score goals, not mentor the kids. You have to produce to play. Danny could no longer produce, so he was cut.

I think we don’t need more vets, we need more guys to step up. More guys to play like Jackman. Some on the ice guys.

Well, I'm off.

Gotta wake up at the butt crack of dawn to drive to Florida. Have a good night, everyone.

pile of shit

a heaping holiday pile of shit.

let me tell you the highlight.

so my beer station is gone. gone. only local owned beer they sell ( i know how you thinking this is the best part, apparently you didnt watch the game) so i trek to the other side to the “euro craft” and “specialty beer” place. all the euros are closed. mother of all that is holy! so i get the fallback mich amber boch, start treking back to my set. see my old beer guy fr last season who still knows what i like. he apparently said something to his boss like, oh, hey maybe the blues should win at home, cos he was at the girlie margarita stand. and we start talking. i’m concenred the blues suck so hard they lost the ability to buy beer that isn;t from a&b, so he calls his boss over. hey on the THIRD side of the arena the other guiness place is open and the first guiness and the cathecdral are just closed do to the frigidation being down.

sigh so after the first period (and here comes the highlight of the entire night) i trek to the third side of saavi. smithick is down, and guiness is extra foamy. great. so i order a half guiness, half harps (a traditional bristish black and tan for you novices) and they make it without a fuss and seem to actually know what the hell they are doing. foamyness aside, that beer was the best part of the entire fucking 200 dollar night.

I took my crazy bigamy out to the game tonight

And I can say with a certain degree of certainty that was HUGE FUCKING TURD.

Kinda hard to stay in a game emotionally when the team sits on their hands after they score each goal.

Only positive of the night (aside from walking to my car behind a chick with the greatest ass in the history of asses) was only paying a third of the face value of the ticket. Given the Blues effort though, I think I got what I paid for.

Chicagoan in the Lou.

Keystone Lake Zamboni falls through thin ice

A Zamboni took a dip in North America's largest groomed skating pond at Keystone Resort tonight.
A driver was grooming the lake at about 6:15 p.m., when the ice cracked and the 7,000-pound machine began to sink at about 6:15 p.m. As a precaution, skaters were cleared from another area of the 5-acre pond, resort spokesman Ryan Whaley said. The driver was not injured.
There was no word immediately on how soon the rink might re-open, but staff will examine the ice and remove the Zamboni Wednesday, Whaley said.
"They'll take it out and we'll see how it is," Whaley said of the machine and the safety of the ice around the crater.
With a lake that large, other areas could reopen immediately, he said.

Once it dries out, the machine is likely salvageable, he said.
Kenneth Waesche snapped a photo of the sunken ice machine when he stopped by Lakeside Village for a pickup game of hockey. His wife planned to do some skating.
Waesche said that the "thin ice" sign in the foreground of the photo was some distance away from where the Zamboni went in.
The lake is typically open from Dec. 18 to March. 28 depending on the weather, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
