12/23 Road Music: @ Calgary Flames

They say that you can't touch a flame when it's red hot....

I seem to recall from school that BLUE burns hotter than RED, and right now the boys in blue are on the verge of a bona fide hot streak. How they respond to the wins in Vancouver and Edmonton will be a strong indicator of whether they've turned the corner or not. If they come out flat, then we're back to the same old problems as before. But ... BUT.... if they continue as they have for the last couple of games, with the hits, forechecking, and a serious 60-minute effort, we could be in for a real treat tonight. Nobody had the magic wand solution for our problems. Now that things seem to be looking better, I'd bet that people STILL don't know what did the trick. Likely, it was the accumulation of several things. I don't know. I just want to see it keep going...

Ozzy Osbourne/ I Don't Wanna Stop

Cal and Gary are in a bit of a decline right now. When we last saw these guys, they were tops in the Northwest Division. They've now lost that spot to the Avs, having gone 1-3-1 in their last 5, and 4-5-1 in their last 10. They are going to be hungry to get back on the winning track. We just need to be a little hungrier.

Last night, Dad asks me what I think the weather's like in Cal/Gary right now . . .

I guessed -30C and windy . . . I was close. -4F and snowing. -4F would be -20C. So I was 10 degrees off. Damn my lack of prognostication skills!

Anyway, there was no point to this story. Do I care? Not particularly.

You could ask me what the weather's like in Nebraska right now...

and I’d say 37° with a windchill of 30°F and SNOWING…like its been SNOWING all day and is supposed to continue SNOWING until Friday…leaving us with somewhere around 14" of SNOW. ARGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LETS GO BLUES!!!!

Lets hope we play Cal and Gary as well as we did for Hull night.

I hear tell Brewer Bot may be partially operational tonight:

have we confermation yet?

Also, anyone think we might avoid Kipper again tonight, or would that be a Festivus miracle?

Oh, and one more thing: I-L-L…I-N-I!!!

I know it's time for hockey because I've started singing "Don't Stop Believing" with the words "...born and raised in FUCK DETRIOT!!!"

by J-Mill on Dec 23, 2009 4:50 PM CST via mobile reply actions

See, I don't agree with this

He hasn’t played overly well, but I think we’ve been using him as a scape goat (again)

He has a -8, yeah. But, -7 of those were in his first 6 games back after not playing hockey for almost a full year. And it was also paired with Alex P, who to be blunt, was playing much worse then Brewer was at the time. I like Pietrangelo, but lets not act like it’s Brewers fault when Pietrangelo would find himself out of position and force Brewer, who’se not a great player, to make a great play.

I’m not saying Brewer has been a house of fire, but he was playing good solid hockey before he went down, and earned atleast a bit of good will after the fight in Dallas

by Novacain on Dec 23, 2009 6:17 PM CST up reply actions

Disagree

Brewer got single handedly beat for 6+ of those goals and pie and zero to do with it. They have just been going right around brewer this year without even slowing down.

JR...

said captain robot would be playing and sydor was sitting on his twitter.

by stlbluesfan029 on Dec 23, 2009 4:58 PM CST up reply actions

That's not too bad

I’d be upset to see Brewer take any other D’s place though… even if he comes back as the spunky, in-your-face (kinda) Brewer that we got glimpses of before he got hurt.

by Mr. Particle on Dec 23, 2009 5:48 PM CST up reply actions

ive seen sydor play

brewer is better than sydor. its not like ej, polak or cola is getting the press box treatment.

by averagejoe on Dec 23, 2009 6:46 PM CST up reply actions

Concur right there.

Sydor’s pretty much there for the mentorship factor. No way does he need to be on the 1st line.

Need this one to stay undefeated outside the U.S. Of A.

Actually, need this one to get the ’can’t-win-three-in-a-row’ monkey off our backs…

I once shot a man just to see him die...then I got distracted and missed it.

I need to

get something that allows me to watch every game. As it is, I only get to watch 2 a week at best. And, of course, the last three I’ve been able to watch we’ve lost. Maybe I should stop watching?

I was at Harry's bar last night on Market Street and look who walks by me. Talked to him a bit and he seems ready for the season to start. Guy has bulked up a lot. Guessing he's 6'1-6'2 and up to 215-225. He's a tank.
