Nice to see Petro

scored in the exhibition game at World Jrs.
I wonder if any Blues players went. Kelly and Panger said they were both going.
I assume coaches went.
Nice story on Boyes by Boyes. Didn’t I see another story by him a wk or so ago?
We could recruit him and have to fathers posting their insight.
OR, maybe find a Mom and get her side of it!!

The Kovy thing...

… is because he’s asking for the max for like 12 years without a depreciating contract deal. That’s great and everything, but just because the Thrashers have a lot of cap space doesn’t meant that they will in the future – we have to have the money to re-sign Bogosian, Kane, Little, et al in the future. Waddell basically told Kovy either you get the max and a butt ton of $500,000 players around you, or you deal, take like $9 mil, and actually get a team that can win – like this year’s. I think it’s his agent who is being an ass about this.

Frankly, though, with the craptabulous way he’s been playing recently, no one’ll want to pay him max (not like anyone else can afford to but Phoenix or something) – and a lot of Thrashers fans would be ok losing him. He’s a liability defensively, and he’s cost us a few games here recently. Don’t know if it’s his foot still, but if it is, his playing time shouldn’t’ve gone up when he came back.

Fan ta Kovalchuk if he can’t take one for the team.

I don’t know how the poor bastard could possibly live on a measly $9 million (insert “rolling eyes” icon here)…

Have fun working for the Russian Mafia over in the KHL, Kovy.

Well, that...

… and his wife’s expecting kid #3. I really think he stays put just for that – to not disrupt stuff. He just built the world’s biggest mansion down in Buckhead, anyway. He’ll find some way to cope. I mean, who else can afford to offer him $9 mil a year who doesn’t suck? The Isles? He’s probably staying put.

But if he keeps playing the way that he’s been playing, Destroyer, you can have him until he gets his head out of his ass, then we want him back. :)

No player is worth 20% of the payroll

If any player “thinks” he’s worth that, he can go fuck himself and his piece of shit agent can sit in the corner and watch said “self fucking”.

No player will last through a 12 year deal and not depreciate. The human body can’t handle that.

I hate this shit.

i would probably say

its his agent angling for leverage. every interview I have ever read on kovy seems like hes a pretty nice guy. I mean business is business, but 9mil sounds like an agent number. and honestly if he want Ovy money and years he needs to be as good or better then Ovy. Ilya is pretty good and what averages 85-90 pts a year? he needs to be looking at datsyuk or zetterberg for a better model of contracts. and yes hildy id take 80-90 pts a year just not for 9 mil, for 9 mil he needs to be averaging about 25 pts more a year

That's pretty much what Grossman's doing.

The problem is that we’d be ok with 9 mil, but right now he’s going for 11 or so, and I’m sorry – I love Kovy, but Ovie’s worth more. He is a nice guy, though, and I think he’d like to stay here – he’s pretty shy, and I think that he likes the complete lack of attention and privacy somewhere like Atlanta brings.

So I guess having marginal (at best) musical talent . . .

wasn’t enough to put Taylor Swift on the Top 10 most irritating list. What a shame, that.

McRae and Warsofsky both made the final team USA roster for the World Juniors.

See the FanPost at right.

Glad to see Pietrangelo scored for Team Canada with, as the article noted, “the entire Blues’ braintrust” on hand.

I would have liked to see Allen in goal, but figured it would be Jones since they were playing in Calgary.

Keystone Lake Zamboni falls through thin ice

A Zamboni took a dip in North America's largest groomed skating pond at Keystone Resort tonight.
A driver was grooming the lake at about 6:15 p.m., when the ice cracked and the 7,000-pound machine began to sink at about 6:15 p.m. As a precaution, skaters were cleared from another area of the 5-acre pond, resort spokesman Ryan Whaley said. The driver was not injured.
There was no word immediately on how soon the rink might re-open, but staff will examine the ice and remove the Zamboni Wednesday, Whaley said.
"They'll take it out and we'll see how it is," Whaley said of the machine and the safety of the ice around the crater.
With a lake that large, other areas could reopen immediately, he said.

Once it dries out, the machine is likely salvageable, he said.
Kenneth Waesche snapped a photo of the sunken ice machine when he stopped by Lakeside Village for a pickup game of hockey. His wife planned to do some skating.
Waesche said that the "thin ice" sign in the foreground of the photo was some distance away from where the Zamboni went in.
The lake is typically open from Dec. 18 to March. 28 depending on the weather, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
