Blues Travel To Nashville

We've finally managed to put that Tuesday game behind us, cleaned up the wreckage and are ready to be positive again. Is Chris Mason going to stick it to his old team? Will the Blues be their usual tenacious selves?

Will someone do us a favor and finally knock Jordin Tootoo's block off?

Join us, won't you, for the game day thread this evening? In the meantime, here's a little tape of Jamal Mayers going after the Tootoo train. Annoying as he is, you gotta admit that the little bastard is scrappy. Plus, unlike some of the players of his ilk, he'll answer the bell when someone rings it.

I hope someone rings his bell.

Dude is dirty. He leaves his feet, he charges from across the ice, he gets his elbow up, he hits after the whistle. There’s a line between being feisty and firing up your team vs. being a dick. Most of the time, I think he’s a dick.

Tootoo’s not going to play tonight due to injury. Wade Belak might return to the lineup, though, so it’ll probably get feisty.

Interesting

And I like how you didn’t defend him.

Interesting to see the Preds have as many negative plus/minus guys as the Blues.

Tootoo’s a classic agitator; if he’s on your team you like him, if not, “he’s a punk.” While he was pretty reckless a while ago, he’s actually been disciplined about his hitting the last couple seasons, and as noted above, he’s not shy about standing up when challenged by someone.

To me he’s been a disappointment this year due to a complete lack of offensive contribution. If a guy like him could chip in 15 goals and skate a regular shift, that’s a very valuable asset to have.

More fun than a stick to the face!

Not a Tootoo fan...

…but I will agree that he at least doesn’t slink off and hide when someone comes calling… unlike a mouthy, yappy, worthless piece of crap like Draper and/or Maltby.

BLUES LINES

Blues lines per JR @ STLToday

There are a couple of lineup changes tonight both among the forwards and defensemen. Cam Janssen will replace Dan Hinote and Mike Weaver will replace Steve Wagner.

Here is the lineup:

Brad Winchester-David Backes-Brad Boyes

Andy McDonald-Patrik Berglund-T.J. Oshie

Alex Steen-Keith Tkachuk-B.J. Crombeen

David Perron-Jay McClement-Cam Janssen

D pairings:

Barret Jackman-Mike Weaver

Carlo Colaiacovo-Tyson Strachan

Jay McKee-Jeff Woywitka

  • With Weaver back, there were a couple of options regarding which defensemen to sit tonight, but the Blues elected to go with Wagner.

Goalie

We’ll have a game day thread up before the first puck drops.

Why not a Strachan-Wagner pairing again tonight?

Y’ know, Strachan can’t fight worth a damn, but I still like the guy… he plays a no-nonsense game, he’s got the size to be effective, and he’s got a pretty good shot. He’s come a long way from playing in the ECHL at this time last season.

They need to just send Weaver packing. I honestly fail to see what he brings to the table.

Perron with Janssen?

I hate to see Perron on the fourth line. Seems like a waste of talent..

What in the flamin' Hell...

…is the friggin’ Green Goblin thinking?

  • Why is Andy McDonald playing left wing when he’s a center?
  • Why is Keith Tkachuk playing center when he’s a left wing?
  • Why is Perron always the only one that gets moved off of the Kid Line when they don’t combine for six points a night?

Well, at least Perron gets to play with Jay McClement, who at least has the speed to keep up and the hands to do something with the puck when Perron gets it to him. As long as Janssen keeps that back-jumping little mosquito Tootoo off of Perron, he’s doing his job.

I wonder if Holt will get the start tomorrow at home vs. the Bleak Hoax, then… especially if Dooks isn’t exactly en fuego tonight?

Peroon

Perron is always moved off the kid line because he takes the most time off.

IMHO, Oshie rarely takes a shift off. Berglund takes a game off here and there while Perron only shows up every other game.

I have seen Perron dominate a game. He grabs the puck, makes a quick move, then tries to fly past a defender, not stickhandle around him and get knocked over.

I think if Mason plays well tonight, he’s in there tomorrow. If he doesn’t, then Bishop gets the call, IU would love to see Holt get a nod though.

Andy McDonald is playing left wing because it’s a physically easier position to play than center. He doesn’t have to get in the defensive zone and attempt to grind it out.

As for Tkachuk, who knows!

Unfortunately,

everything you’ve said about Perron can also be said about Nikolai Zherdev, and he’s been one of the more frustrating players to fans of his teams since being drafted. I’m fine with sending the kid the message in whatever way it takes to get him to learn the lesson.

Play more like Oshie, get more minutes like Oshie.

It's a message

The message being, “Be thankful Kariya is permanently gimpy, or you’d be in the press box.” Love Perron, but he still takes too many shifts off.

Lenoc? That you?

And I pretty much agree.

I love you guys, but you've GOT to stop drinkin' The Green Goblin's Kool-Aid...

I understand the point you guys are all trying to make — and I even agree with it, for the most part — but my point is this.

David Perron isn’t T.J. Oshie. He isn’t the same kind of player, they don’t play anything like the same kind of style.

There are plenty of other players on this team who have taken nights off this year, and some who have taken pretty much the whole season off… but they don’t get "sent messages" any time they fail in even the smallest way to live up to Murray’s ridiculous expectations.

Brewer can suck like Linda friggin’ Lovelace all night long, and he still gets premium playing time.

Mason was God-awful in the third period Tuesday night, but he gets the start again tonight.

Boyes, God love him, can score like a madman, but wouldn’t know a good backcheck if it came up and bit him on the ass. He’s not asked to play a completely different style of game that what he’s used to; he’ll start tonight, and he’s the top-line RW.

Weaver. Don’t get me started about Weaver. He’s as useless as tits on a boar hog. He plays tonight

The only "message" being sent here is that if you kiss Murray’s ass, and if you’re one of his favorites, you’ll play. if you don’t, you get no slack at all, and will get "sent a message" each and every time you don’t do exactly what Murray wants.

Let the painters paint and the plumbers plumb.

Free Perron.

what bothers me about the perron/4th line show is that hes a playmaker. he leads the team in assists and yet you pair him with grinders. dave could feather a perfect pass between two d-men right on cam’s tape and what’s cam going to do with it?

you dont tell a home run hitter to hit singles. you dont tell an option quarterback to throw the ball. you dont tell shaq to start jackin up threes.

if you want him to succeed and play hard, put him on a line with someone who can do something. its a shame he doesnt play hard all the time — and i will agree he takes shifts off — but not every guy is gonna play hard all the time.

like b said, everyone else is allowed to have off nights but perron. what gives?

by averagejoe on Feb 12, 2009 5:46 PM CST up reply actions

Bu taking shifts off is taking shifts off. No one (I hope) expects Perron to be smashing into guys and playing the Oshie style. What I mean (and I assume others do, too) is that he has to be working hard and playing his game every shift. Too often you don’t even see him out there.

I see what you did there

Because if the Blues win tonight, the odds are they lose tomorrow night because there’s no way they’re winning two in a row. At least that’s what I believe a Hawks fan would think.

meh.. I just liked the odds they gave.

meh.. I just liked the odds they gave. You’re right though – the Blues probably won’t win tomorrow night. Hell, the goalie we just called up recently out-did Legace down in the AHL.

Yo Second City, good to see you over here again. I like how your break balls. I’m not a big fan of the Nashville Jerk offs but I HATE the hawks. I expect you over here tomorrow night as well. You’re a solid one and please don’t bet on the Blues. That frightens me.

I won’t be around actually.. sorry to disappoint. I’ll be on my way to New Orleans to get shitfaced and eat gumbo. But I’ll be watching as much of the game as possible in an airport bar cursing at you all in my mind.

well fuck

I had the under on the Tampa Bay/Toronto game.. so i lose… so the blues can now get bent tonight.

As usual, I won't be able to watch the game until late because of the baby...

…..So I usually follow up reading the comments after the game is over, and all the “Fuck Detroit in the Eyeballs!!!” have already been said, and the only person left is Dooks with his random picture posting fetish.

So, allow me to get out my rage/joy ahead of time…

-FUCK DETROIT!!!!!
-FUCKING REFS!!!!
-SHIT!! FUCK!!! POO POO!! PEE PEE!!!! WEINER!!!! COCK’N’BALLS!!! QUEEF NUGGET!!!!!
-HEE HAW!!!!
-YESSSSSSSSSSSS………………. (Napoleon Dynamite Style)
-FUCK YEAH
-BLUES WIN!!!!!

Ok, that was stupid, but whatever. At least I feel like I contributed.
