article on Brewer being a captain (fixed)
from NHL.com:
Brewer learned how to be a captain from the best
Eric Brewer says he's always been sort of a history buff. So it wasn't unusual to see him studying the names of St. Louis captains that are engraved on a plaque in the entry way from the Blues dressing room to the Scottrade Center ice......
this may shed a little light on what the Blues locker room was thinking when they voted to give him the "C"

Nice patch-up job there, Dooks.
And actually not a bad read. Even if I still disagree with the choice of Brewer as captain.
In short . . . “The quickest way to a man’s heart is with David Backes’s fist.”
By the way, according to J.R. at the P-D, both Backes and Teej will be playing tonight.

Heh . . .
someone’s gotta keep us crazies in line, I suppose.

If the players voted him the “C” and not the organization, then nobody outside of the locker room has the right to complain about it. You can complain about the guy’s play, but the “C” isn’t always about being the best player on the ice.
e.g. Dallas Drake. Not the most skilled guy on the ice, but his teammates loved him.

Drake still sucked
and he wasn’t chosen by the players.

Vitali Karamnov perhaps?
Used to be Aaron, but some douchebag Celtics fan has that one already.

Nah ....
I’m betting it was Pete Zezel …

what's wrong with Zezel?
Dude was the reason the red "L"s are on the ice near the faceoff circles. He was a great faceoff man who changed the face of the game.
Let's go Blues!!!
nothing at all ..
I also remember him as a great faceoff man. I was trying to reach back a few years into the past, and that was the first name that popped into my head. Not exactly obscure (what I was aiming at), but somewhere in that direction …

Karamnov and the gang
Haha … man, Caron’s Russian exploration. That was a hoot.
Blues brass: “The Red Wings have Federov. Buffalo has Mogilny. Vancouver, Bure. We should probably get in on this action.”
The Professor (in his trademark French growl): “Well, you know, back during the war, I met a fine Russian woman, she was beautiful. We had two memorable nights after the fall of Berlin. Last year we got back in touch. She says her nephews can play hockey. I will tell the fans, ‘There is meat in the borscht.’”
And Karamnov, Prokhorov, and Korolev (the star!) were born. Anyone remember Prokhorov’s hat trick? For that one short moment, I thought one of the Russians would be something.

Korelev was working for awhile. he was on the Leafs for a few years after the Blues so he wasn’t a complete failure
Yeah, Korolev was serviceable. It was just funny the way they billed the trio as part of the new Russian wave when, you know, they were fairly interchangeable.

Not Keenan-type players...
Part of it was that they weren’t very good for Russians, the other part was that Keenan had no idea of how to use them. That would have actually required strategy on his part, and his whole coaching mantra is about “out-competing” the opposition.
