Sunday Morning Links

First off, thanks to averagejoe for pinch-hitting on the Saturday links.

Second off, thanks (for nothing) to the Blues for playing competitive hockey for 58 minutes of gameplay. Guess what happened in the other 2(ish) minutes? It involved lots of swearing, I can tell you that.

And with those business items out of the way, let's get to the links:

Blues News:

NHL News:

  • Good for Martin Brodeur on tying Patrick Roy's total of 551 regular season wins
  • Here's an early look at the upcoming free agent class.
  • Last night's scores. Big thanks to DAL/MIN and COL/EDM for going to overtime. Assholes.
  • Here's what the standings look like today. 3 Points out.
  • And Sunday's hockey schedule. San Jose can help us out by taking care of Anaheim in regulation.

Other Stuff:

  • Gift had a bright idea to put up something from addictinggames.com on the linkage. Why the hell not? Here's Territory War.

To close out Sunday's link dump, enjoy Warren Zevon's "Hit Somebody." Ignore the Detroit reference.

That's all for now. Averagejoe takes the reins back for the work week. Enjoy today's materials and don't forget to send worthwhile shit to gametimelinks (at) gmail.com. Help control the pet population. Have your pet spayed or neutered.

The Price is Wrong Bitch!

You may have heard of this "NCAA Basketball Tournament" coming up . . .

Yeah. Because of the selection show being tonight, and the fact that I’m the point-man for one “pool”, I’ll have to join tonight’s Wilds-Blues GDT in progress.

If ass2mouth shows up again . . . just call him a troll and leave it at that. Not worth the effort.

this little tidbit was found on the MN Wild's site....

remember, they played last night, in EDM…

Update from the Road:
3/14/09: The team arrived at its St. Louis hotel just before 1 am. A couple players are not feeling well so they will be sleeping in thier own rooms to try and help make sure no one else gets sick as well. Approximately 8 players will skate tomorrow morning in a very optional skate. Andrew Brunette will join WCCO Radio’s Sunday Sports Huddle in the 11 am hour.

yeah, I heard a few players have the flu so there was an optional morning skate for them today. also, word is, Mason was pulled for the 3rd period yesterday in order to rest him for today’s game, so yet another consecutive start for him.

btw, I’m sitting this game out. had to work last night after the game, and then again this morning, and I gotta be back at work at midnight. needless to say, I’m sleeping the rest of the day. I won’t be missing much anyway, Minn games are boring as all hell.

Fuck Detroit! Go Blues!

this is actually the first ‘free food day’ game that I have missed

by Dooks on Mar 15, 2009 3:47 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

You didn't miss nothin.

except for a great game…the food was … umm… unmentionable. Or forgettable.

Parking wasn’t an issue too….

But the food…If you didn’t get it when you were walking to your seats before the game..your were screwed.
I went at the end of the 1st period and they were all out upstairs. I went downstairs to get it, and the line was all the way across like 4 or 5 sections…. I said fuck it…didn’t want to miss the game for some week old shit food.

Hey, it could be worse. It has been worse. Not that long ago it was a lot worse. Doesn't make it feel better.

Keystone Lake Zamboni falls through thin ice

A Zamboni took a dip in North America's largest groomed skating pond at Keystone Resort tonight.
A driver was grooming the lake at about 6:15 p.m., when the ice cracked and the 7,000-pound machine began to sink at about 6:15 p.m. As a precaution, skaters were cleared from another area of the 5-acre pond, resort spokesman Ryan Whaley said. The driver was not injured.
There was no word immediately on how soon the rink might re-open, but staff will examine the ice and remove the Zamboni Wednesday, Whaley said.
"They'll take it out and we'll see how it is," Whaley said of the machine and the safety of the ice around the crater.
With a lake that large, other areas could reopen immediately, he said.

Once it dries out, the machine is likely salvageable, he said.
Kenneth Waesche snapped a photo of the sunken ice machine when he stopped by Lakeside Village for a pickup game of hockey. His wife planned to do some skating.
Waesche said that the "thin ice" sign in the foreground of the photo was some distance away from where the Zamboni went in.
The lake is typically open from Dec. 18 to March. 28 depending on the weather, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
