This year's Playoffs

So far, this playoff year is very disappointing.   Of course it was spellbinding and amazing to even MAKE the playoffs, but then I stupidly expected more.   Unfortunately, the Blues'  team that is now competing against the Sedins and Demitra and Sundin:  Are they the same team that we have been watching these past three months?  Unfortunately, no.   They are now a team with Steen on the point on the power play, instead of Osh or Perron.   The main thing is: they are now a team competing against Loungo, the greatest goalie in the league.    Also, our karma is gone.  When McDonald hit the crossbar in the 2nd period, you had to know that they would come down and score a softie against Mase, and that is exactly what they did.

Sadly, I think this will be a 4-0 series. Luongo has defeated the Blues.

I’ll agree with you just because the pessimistic life style is VERY good to me. Everytime I got my hopes up for something… I was violently raped by life’s dildo causing 4th degree anal tearage.

shame on you people for giving up. this team beat the odds this season to get to where they are now. they will not let 2 losses in vancouver stop them. having a 0.7%chance of making it into the playoffs around halfway through the season, this team deserves to be here and will work hard and doWHATEVER IT TAKES!! so throw yo guns up playa and raise em up high its a blue revolution you know we cant be denied. its the STL and we born to fight, its a motherfucking gang and were down for life. show your true colors.

Immature

I will pass your comment off as being immature. You don’t know me and I don’t know you. What I do know about you is that your contribution to the discussion is to use the F-word against me. How intelligent you are! How can I possibly respond to such a well-thought-out and effective retort?

I was drunk. Which is not unusual.

But your pessimism still angers me.

I don't understand your attitude.

If, as you say, the problem is that several players on this team are not giving a full effort, then why do you automatically assume that they won’t step it up? If your point was simply that Luongo is unbeatable (categorically untrue, though he has been exceptional), then maybe you have a reason for your so-called pragmatism.

The biggest issues so far have been the inability to get the puck out of their own zone, losing the individual battles, and losing face-offs. The Canucks are one of the best teams in the league at face-offs, so that’s not surprising. The Blues do not have great defensemen. As a unit, they have poor puck handling skills. That will be improved next year by the return of Eric Johnson. Polak and Colaiacovo are pretty good with the puck, Woywitka and Weaver show some ability, but McKee and Jackman are horrible at handling the puck. Jackman, particularly, has got to improve in the next couple of games on clearing the puck out of the zone. Losing the individual battles can be, and will be corrected. This team hasn’t had any quit in them for an entire year, what makes you think they will suddenly roll over?

There are a few guys that specifically need to provide more competitive spirit. T.J. Oshie seems to be overwhelmed by the playoffs, so far. That can be corrected. There were flashes of what he has done to carry us lately, and I think the home ice will do him good. Tkachuk is old, though they are going to need more from him to come back in this series. As I said, Jackman and Woywitka need to work significantly harder in the defensive zone. Their inability to win the puck along the boards and clear it is killing us right now. In general, I don’t see enough out of B.J. Crombeen, Brad Winchester, or Dan Hinote, either. Personally, I think they need to replace Hinote with Janssen. Janssen would definitely provide more energy and forechecking, which the Blues desperately need right now.

Steen has been as good lately as he has been at any time during the season. I really have been impressed with the way he has stepped up. McClement is providing a great deal of competitive spirit. Berglund and Perron both significantly stepped up their games last night. MacDonald definitely played better last night, and Boyes was at least providing some sustained puck possession. Polak has developed into our best all-around defensemen, and we get more out Weaver than anybody should expect. He is the new Bryce Salvador.

The Canucks have come out flying, but there is no way that you can make the case that the Blues have not been in either of these first two games. With some improvement from a couple of key players, both of these games could have easily gone the Blues’ way. If they can come out and get the first goal in game 3, I have complete confidence they will win that game. The home ice is going to be a big advantage, and once they get the first win under their belts it will change the attitude. Beating any team 4-0 is one of the more difficult things to do in sports. The fact that this team lost two tight games, doesn’t indicate a team that is completely overmatched. I don’t think this team is geared for winning the cup, but they will win a game in this series. I guarantee that.

it fucking annoys me when so-called fans come out of the woodwork when the Blues win several games in a stretch and sqeak into the playoffs, but when we lose a game or two, all of the sudden “they suck again, fuck these guys”.

it’s fickle fans like these that make me think they are the ones that come to Scottrade wearing Red Wing shit (changing teams to one that has a better record) because we all know Detroit citizens can’t afford to travel, much less go to games at the Toolbag

You don't know what you are talking about....

You don’t know what you are talking about, pal. If you are trying to call me a “so-called” fan, then you are wrong. As a season-ticket holder since the early ‘80s, I have a feeling I have been to a few more games than you have, including those lean years when there were only about 7000 fans in the building. I have a right to voice my opinion that the Blues, however much I love them, are not “themselves” in this series. You don’t know me, and you are wrong to curse me and denigrate me.
