Thoughts on Game 4 (and some thoughts on the season in general)

Wow. What a time I had at the Savvis Scottrade ScotchTape DrinkScotch Kiel Center last night. My voice will probably take about a week to recover, but despite the result it was well worth it. I still despise thundersticks with a passion, though.

And it was great to meet some of the folks involved with the SLGT site during the first and second intermissions, including Fearless Leaders "Juan" and Brad (thanks, Brad, for e-mailing me last night's PDF - I should've paid you for it on-the-spot, but for now let's just say I owe you a beer) as well as Dooks, DanGNR, k10 and several others I'm sure I'm forgetting at the moment (PCS doesn't count since I'd already met him - his woman thinks I'm hilarious around here . . . why thanks!). A definitely-needed smoke break and a long line at the john (IMAGINE THAT!) kept me from the pre-OT gathering.

Last night, as many have already noted, we saw what the future of our club is capable of when they're - for all intents and purposes - down and out. And I was glad to have an upper-tank view of the whole thing. Sure, the end of the game pissed me off, but the five minutes that followed the game-winner - the "Let's Go Blues!" chant during the handshakes, the team salute to the crowd, just the general atmosphere of the building - were the most amazing five minutes at a hockey game that I think I've ever seen in person that didn't involve game action.

As for the season in general . . . I've said it before and I'll say it again (and probably again and again and again) - I have NEVER . . . EEEEEEEVER* . . . been more proud of a Blues team than this '08-'09 outfit. It's gonna take either an epic Cup run or some type of out-of-body experience to ever get THAT feeling again. I admitted before the postseason started that anything that were to happen from there on out would be gravy. While that is true, it doesn't make me any less pissed about how the season ended. And really, isn't that the point? You don't win the Cup, your season didn't end the way it wanted to, even if you exceed everyone's wild expectations of you? Yeah, but us Blues fans have been dealing with THAT stigma for a number of years now. Just thank everything Holy and Good and Whatever that we're not Blackhawks fans . . .

The ink isn't dry yet on the final '08-'09 chapter, and I just can't fucking WAIT for next year already. Sure, I'll have the Cardinals to bide my time during the summer . . . but as I see it, while the Cards will ALWAYS be my top love, for now I'm cheating on them with my top passion - the Blues. And since they don't know what they're not told . . . I think this relationship is acceptable for all parties involved. Just don't run off and tell them, OK?
