St. Louis Blues Release 2009-10 Schedule
The 2009-10 schedule for the Blues was just released. Home opener (not in Sweden) is Thursday Oct. 8 against that big rival...Atlanta Thrashers?
Some interesting stuff. Look at the breakdown in the jump.
- Only division games in October are in Sweden with Detroit.
- First game against the Blackhawks isn't until December. First home game with Chicago isn't until Jan. 2.
- Non-conference home games: Thrashers, Panthers, Islanders, Bruins, Lightning, Sabres, Rangers, Maple Leafs and finally the Washington Ovechkins.
- February has only seven games with the Olympics.
- Final home game is April 9.
- Longest road trip is six games to begin March.
What are you looking forward to? Check the schedule then weigh in down in the comments.
ADDING TO THESE IMPRESSIONS
- The Blues play on back-to-back nights 17 times this season (18 counting the games in Sweden). Thanks, Olympics. (To be fair, this is one less time than last year's 19.)
- They have a home game on New Year's Eve.
- There are six straight home games in November. Hope that doesn't lead to divorce papers in December.
- Because of the two games in Sweden against Detroit, the Red Wings only come to St. Louis twice this season. One of those two nights might be the rowdiest of the season: Saturday night of Thanksgiving weekend.

This schedule is on crack.
I know that it’s because of the Olympics, but why so long to play our rivals, and what is up with the length of time between those games? We don’t play a conference rival (not counting the Sweden games) until we play the Preds on November 12th. That means that there are 2 games against the Thrashers before we even see a Central opponent in North America. WTF.
Love the huge homestand in November, though. I also appreciate the fact that we’re not on the road for the whole month of March and that week in April.

6 Game Homestand in November
There are 3 playoff teams (VAN,SJ, BOS) with 2 of the league’s worst (NYI and PHX) and a team on the rise (NSH) thrown in.
I’m looking at that as a “mini-season” to see how the Blues play at home against the good, the not as good, and the ugly. Let’s hope we don’t hear the phrase “playing to their competition” near as much this season.

I saw that same stretch...
…and said, “Damn, I wish I could get like a 6-game pack just for that.”
Should be some good, entertaining (but hopefully not TOO entertaining) hockey.
You have to remember
my view of the schedule is tainted by writing for the Game Time paper. So when I see a six-game homestand, I frown, curse and add extra strength Mountain Dew to the grocery list.

I’m sure some of us commenters could crank out some top 11s and maybe even a guest article or two.

There ain't no shame in delegation.
That’s how I ran my sorority for that one awful year. But I’m sure you guys are far smarter and easier to work with than a bunch of 22 year old girls with attitude (and occasionally drinking) problems.

I can further deify David Backes . . .
for one whole paper, if required.

Hildy is required to venture up for the home opener vs. ATL, right? Teaching is no excuse. Ain’t nobody never get nowhere from learnin’ nothin’, anyways.
Lighthouse Hockey: Side effects may include Weight gain and frequent game loss.
LOL.
Forgets me book learnin’ – I’s gots some hock-ay to go watch!
I might see what I can do. :D No way am I coming to cheer for the Thrashers, though.
I am looking forward to my annual “get called names/heckled/walk out of the arena in pride” day on November 8th here at Philips. It’s fun to be “that other guy” sometimes.

Just SO fucking glad . . .
that the NCAA isn’t fucking up the Savvis Scottrade ScotchTape DrinkScotch JockStrap GermX Kiel Center for once, nullifying the need for what seemed to be a San Antonio Spurs’ Annual Rodeo Road Trip-esque situation. As much fun as it is to see the NCAA tournament every year . . . good fucking GOD do I hate that for the Blues.

Only two of the six...
… are scheduled during the actual tournament: March 4 @ Dallas and March 6 @ Colorado.
My biggest disappointment: 16 back-to-back games, and not one of ’em are against the same opponent. Bring back the home-and-home games!
16 back to backs this season excluding Sweden. Thats quite a few.
We’ve definitely got some slow pitch coming out of the olympic break to get us back in gear.
This is one of the better draws travel-wise the blues have had in recent years, jesus how much more baseball do we have to watch before it all starts?
YES!
From a completely and utterly selfish viewpoint, that is THE perfect schedule.
I can’t get any time off to fly over to the US during Oct, Nov or Dec. So, scheduling the Anaheim, San Jose and LA games in January is perfect! I can now book to stay with friends in Anaheim in January and get to see the Blues play live for the first time!
LOL I’m a tad happy and excited about this…

And I can tell you...
…you’ll definetely like it :)
At least, I did last season when I saw my first even live Blues-game as European! And you will too, no doubt about it (though mine was a home game, but you have some nice scheduled games ahead indeed!)
Lucky you :)

you gotta love
In the Last Month and a half . . . .
we play the Preds Blackhawks and Bluejackets twice each, 3 times vs the preds
-you’d imagine those three teams would be in playoff contention with us so its nice to be able to help yourself at the end
Also playing the Stars and Avalance twice in that period makes me smile
with buffer games vs. Phoenix, NY Islanders that should help us out at the end of the season as well

Fuck Detroit
Toughest/Easiest Months
Look at who were playing in Decemeber. Of the 15 games only 4 of them are against soft teams.
In March theres only 2 or 3 games against contenders out of 14 so should be pretty decent.
Still not a big fan of the switch back up to 7PM. Seeing as I work until 6 Mon-Fri..it’s going to be cutting it close making it to games.
Yeah, I agree
There was nothing wrong with 7:30. Didn’t feel rushed. Will this year.

Whenever I'm going to St. Louis for anything . . .
I always take a half-day off from work.
Then again, I’m not an STH of either the Note or the Cards. Nor do I get to go to either’s games too often.

Just curious...
Why did they change it?
It’s better for us European fans, though…. with the time zones lol

I think they did a survey with season ticket holders to ask their input and they liked the 7PM start time better. Don’t quote me on that, though.
At least they did a survey.
They did one with the STH down here forever ago and 7:00 won out because of kids and the fact that getting home at 10 is better for them on a school night is better than 10:30 or something – we still have 7:30 start times on Fridays, which is nice because traffic is unbearable – I’m sure you guys have heard horrible stories about ATL traffic. They’re all true.
I’d prefer a 7:30 start time because I don’t like having to come home from work, have 20 minutes to change, and then fly out the door at 5:00 to make it down there by 5:45 or 6 so I have time for a nice dinner before the game. 7:30 start times would make life more bearable for professionals. Hockey isn’t for children, anyway. They might get the idea that violence is ok or something. :D

Curious ...
I visited the Second City Hockey site, to check in on the Tallon drama, and their schedule write-up. I found this interesting:
However, the main thing I’d like to address here: Some people during the playoffs suggested we try and organize a Second City road trip, and there are a couple dates we might want to look at: Feb. 6th at St. Louis, a Saturday night, is the obvious one, as there’s no home game the next day that I have to be here for, though any of these can be done without me. There are also a couple dates in Columbus that could be contenders, but we have much time to discuss.
Bring It!!

Why does this make me picture a long, long night in a shitty, shitty bar.
Those Second City guys are good to go, and the combined forces of our group and their group combining in one bar would be huge, if you ask me. The Hawks rivalry is a fun one and despite the fights that sometimes break out in the crowd, most of those guys get it, as opposed to the Wings fans who we all know to be humorless self-loathing fuckwads.
Let me at ’em, Gallagher! Let me at ’em!

I thought they were all already here.
I mean, has anyone been to a Cards-Cubs game at Busch lately? It’s like motherfucking Chicago South.
Anyway . . . bring ’em on.

4 dates in CA, 3 Saturdays and a Thursday
Wohoo.
Usually the Blues swing out here to the land of fruits and nuts on only two trips but this year they swing out 3X to SoCal.

Yes, and I am excited for early January....
Me and some buddys flying to San Jose, hitting all 3 games that week. Also gonna try to go to a Conan taping and The Price is Right taping, if they are in production that week.

I'm obviously enthused about November 8th.
Time to see if I can get a ticket upgrade to around the bench somewhere. Or, my DIY upgrade I did last year: walk down and sit on the glass.
Looks like I might need to get my hands on some Game Time stickers and figure out a sign or something for warm ups. Like “Put me in a hockey bag and take me home to StL – I promise I’ll fit.”
