Roman Polak Back In Blue

No official word from the Blues or TSN yet, but some rumor-minded folks and likely fake Twitter accounts are burning up the internet with news that Roman Polak has been re-signed by the Blues.

EDIT: as averagejoe noted, per Jeremy Rutherford at the Post-Dispatch, it's a done deal.

Polak, 23, and who is neither Roman nor Polish, proved he could play in the NHL last year with a break-out 69-game campaign. He logged major minutes on an injury-decimated blueline and managed to add a goal and 14 assists. While he too often put himself out of position while joining the rush, more often than not he played with the confidence of a veteran. In the playoffs, Polak stepped up his game and was one of the team's better players.

With Polak back in the fold, the blueline corps looks to be shaping up with these six defensemen under contract to play in the NHL this year:

The questions that remain are whether Brewer will indeed be fit to play come September and whether younger players like Alex Pietrangelo, Steve Wagner or Jonas Junland make make enough of a case to play in St. Louis.

"I have no strong feelings one way or the other."

Seriously though, it’s a good, fair price. If anything, I think we got him rather cheap for his talent level. Should be atleast a 2nd pairing defensemen for us.

Quick note, I’d say Alex P looks like a much more solid bet for the 6th defensive spot then Weaver, who would probably fit in as our 7th D spot. Course, I don’t think Brewer will be ready, so they’ll probably both get spots.

thats a fantastic deal, should have gone for more years at those terms but I’d take him for a mil a year no problem.

FUCK AND YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SO glad he signed. Love the deal he got . . . he deserves it.

And that Twitter feed is awesome.

Good work, upper management!

and the roster is set….even minus Brewer…we’re still in decent shape. Another vet would be nice, but we can trade Bam Bam Cam for a depth guyl

What?!

“likely fake”? Shit. Once I figure out what the hell Twitter is, I’m gonna jack that foo.

I thought Twitter was something you do to Big Rhonda real quick for $3 while you fill up your gas tank. Oh well.

He is a euro so we all know what’s up there but he is certainly “less phruit” then most. That and the dude is wicked fast.

Keystone Lake Zamboni falls through thin ice

A Zamboni took a dip in North America's largest groomed skating pond at Keystone Resort tonight.
A driver was grooming the lake at about 6:15 p.m., when the ice cracked and the 7,000-pound machine began to sink at about 6:15 p.m. As a precaution, skaters were cleared from another area of the 5-acre pond, resort spokesman Ryan Whaley said. The driver was not injured.
There was no word immediately on how soon the rink might re-open, but staff will examine the ice and remove the Zamboni Wednesday, Whaley said.
"They'll take it out and we'll see how it is," Whaley said of the machine and the safety of the ice around the crater.
With a lake that large, other areas could reopen immediately, he said.

Once it dries out, the machine is likely salvageable, he said.
Kenneth Waesche snapped a photo of the sunken ice machine when he stopped by Lakeside Village for a pickup game of hockey. His wife planned to do some skating.
Waesche said that the "thin ice" sign in the foreground of the photo was some distance away from where the Zamboni went in.
The lake is typically open from Dec. 18 to March. 28 depending on the weather, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
