Re-Drafting the League

James from Cycle Like the Sedins had an awesome idea - get together 30 bloggers, one from each team, and have them re-draft their squad for the upcoming season. Everyone gets our teams together, the line-ups are plugged into NHL10 when it comes out, and a season's simulated to see who the victor is. I think we get a cookie if we win.

The thing is, you have to pay attention to the cap hit. This isn't like trading to get some super-line of Lemieux-Gretzky-Hull on NHL94 or anything... everything has to be practical.

Everyone's picks are going up on CLTS now (updated draft picks are going up on our message board)... I'm tossing this out for discussion to see how you think people are doing so far. I'm doing the Blues, but totally in a not-perverted way

There have been some hum-dinger picks so far... and almost every single freaking person I want to choose as a center has been picked.

I've only gotten a chance to pick once, and since the space between the picks was so far apart I had to go with the best goalie, Roberto Luongo - sorry.  I didn't want to get stuck with Budaj or something.  There are about 5 or so picks left until I choose again, and I'm torn between a few people.  I might just a huge cap coup with a young up and coming defenseman locked into an entry level contract... but I'm not tipping my hand there for some schmuck to read.

Anyone got any suggestions?  The pickin's for center are getting purdy slim.

If it uses a cap system like the current NHL go for someone with one of the 12 year low cap contracts. Pronger for 5, Hossa for 5, Zetteburg for 6, Franzen for 4, Lecavalier for 7. You could also go for someone who is only held down because of injuries like Cola or Mattius Ohlund. Cola is a great D man but he gets injured a lot which probably wont happen in a video game.

Sadly all of them are taken...

… except for Hoss and Franzen. I don’t know if injuries are going to be turned on in the game or not – if they’re not, I might pick Hoss up later on. Franzen’s tempting, though…

I’m actually thinking of grabbing one of the Bobblehead Twins or Zajac if the rest of my picks are toast by the time they get to me this round.

KOPITAR, BROWN, STAMKOS, STATSNY, HEJDUK, CAMMALLERI, TANGUAY, EJ, defense is tough choice

Big Z's been nabbed...

So has Cam. I’m thinking Patrick Marleau next…

I have a couple of D-men I know I can get on the cheap that (hopefully) no one will think of that are outstanding. Hint: one plays for my favorite team, and one plays for my 2nd favorite. Discuss.

Are you boggles for Bogos?

(trying to be discreet here.)

One day, David Backes and Albert Pujols will combine forces to become the most awesome piece of violent force known to man.

Bingos.

I cry when I think of what could have been last season… stupid freaking okenbray eglay.

I think a D combo of he and the Slayer of Golf Carts’d be damn sweet, and thanks to the entry level contracts (not sure if we’re doing bonuses in the draft or not) will cost a fraction of what someone like JBo would. And would be better.

BTW, just got Marleau. 38G, 33A and a +16. I think he’s probably the best I could do at center this late in the draft… and I am really confused that no one picked him.

Next up, my D… hopefully.

Late round pick up

Matt Walker. Book that shit

No, I don’t have trouble letting go. Why do you ask?

You guys should be pleased to note...

… that half of my evil plan for league domination is complete.

I just drafted EJ. I am trusting that James has the “golf cart” feature on NHL10 turned off for the sim.
