Blues Pro-Orientation Camp Schedule

I'll be there on Saturday at least.  Should be fun.

from the stlblues spam email file:

Blues Pro-Orientation Camp Begins Wednesday, July 8

Don't miss the Blues Pro-Orientation Camp, which begins Wednesday, July 8 at the Ice Zone at St. Louis Mills and concludes Saturday, July 11 with a Blue vs. Gold Scrimmage.

T.J. Oshie and Erik Johnson will join Blues prospects on the ice for four days of workouts and on-ice practice sessions. Prospects attending this year's camp include first round draft selections Ian Cole (2007), Lars Eller (2007) and Alex Pietrangelo (2008). Additional players expected to attend camp are Jake Allen, Ben Bishop, Philip McRae, Aaron Palushaj and Brett Sonne. A full list of participants is available at stlouisblues.com.

All events at the Pro-Orientation Camp are open to the public and free of charge. Arrive early, space is limited. Fans will have opportunities to meet players and receive autographs after each practice session on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

At 11 a.m. on Saturday, the prospects will square off in the Blue vs. Gold scrimmage. Doors open at 9 a.m. and the first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a free T-shirt courtesy of Fox Sports Midwest. Plus, all fans who attend get free Ice Zone skating passes. Space is limited to the first 1,500 fans.

I'm hoping to write a little more about this tonight.

But thanks for throwing this up.

Wait, that sounds funny.

I would recommend getting there at least an hour early for the scrimmage. If its anything like the last time they had it there, it will be packed.

I boycott this event

Yeah it is held in glorious North County but I was not invited to attend. Yes, I do blame my former agent, Slick Rick, but I sent my media packet in and didn’t hear anything.

I stand defiant.

I wanna go.

I don’t think I could make it up there in time. But the fact that it’s limited to the first 1500 fans is awesome. Ours Saturday has no limit. Because no more than 100 people might show up.

I’ve been invited kinda to a media Q&A after our scrimage, so that should be fun. Truth be told, though, I’m really really looking forward to updates from TB regarding the Blues’ prospect camp/pro-orientation/rush week whatever you want to call it.

I think two years ago

the estimate was 3,000 fans crammed into that place. We had a funny Top 11 list. I’ll have to dig it up.

3000 fans crammed together for a prospect scrimmage?

Tell me more about this wonderful place!

I was there...

The place was ridiculously overcrowded. Once you were in, you weren’t able to leave — every aisle and walkway was jammed. I’m sure someone got an earful from the fire marshal.

Holy crap.

That certainly explains the limits on attendance this year. Thank God no one screamed “FIRE!”

But she’s 8. And her dad tricked her into going by telling her, “It’s at a mall, sweetie. We’ll do some shopping afterwards.”

I'm going to be in the Thrashers' prospects' locker room Saturday.

So if you really want a taste of awkward, ask me know that one goes. I think I might be the only chick there.

Beware the longish intro (pun intended).

Hahahahahahahaha

God, I wish I could show that movie in AP World, but I would get shitcanned in a heartbeat.

I don’t know how “serious” I am, but I am planning on not totally wasting this chance, or doing something retarded enough to get me not invited back. A friend suggested I “leave my phone in the locker room and pretend to come back later and get it.”

Puck bunnies annoy the shit out of me.

I'll be there tomorrow and saturday

Though I wasn’t looking forward to getting up bright and early to make it to the morning stuff tomorrow, I’m still bummed that they canceled it… I was looking forward to a full day of hockey goodness.

by TheDubGee on Jul 7, 2009 5:21 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Your GTPD will, of course, be there live and in color…

I’ve taken a well-deserved three days of vacation, and will be at the Mills tomorrow, Thursday, and Frday.

I can’t make the scrimmage on Saturday, however… my 70-year-old aunt (who’s been like a second mother to me all my life) is getting "The NASCAR Experience" for her birthday, and will get to drive an actual NASCAR vehicle around the track at Gateway. I’ve got to be there for that.

I’ll have a post up in the morning about some guys to watch at the camp, and will have daily updates and photos as we go along.

Speaking of media creds....

If someone wants me to cover the Blues out here in SoCal when they are here and the local Ontario Reign minor league team I can git er done.

My current press credential is for outdoor writing and they seem to frown on it when I ask for sporting event media passes.

Does SLGT have any credentialed writers/bloggers? I see the NHL is now issuing passes to bloggers, some from SBN I hear.

Some SBN bloggers were up with the media at the draft...

… I don’t see why they wouldn’t be cool enough to offer someone from here some sort of laminated thingie.

Keystone Lake Zamboni falls through thin ice

A Zamboni took a dip in North America's largest groomed skating pond at Keystone Resort tonight.
A driver was grooming the lake at about 6:15 p.m., when the ice cracked and the 7,000-pound machine began to sink at about 6:15 p.m. As a precaution, skaters were cleared from another area of the 5-acre pond, resort spokesman Ryan Whaley said. The driver was not injured.
There was no word immediately on how soon the rink might re-open, but staff will examine the ice and remove the Zamboni Wednesday, Whaley said.
"They'll take it out and we'll see how it is," Whaley said of the machine and the safety of the ice around the crater.
With a lake that large, other areas could reopen immediately, he said.

Once it dries out, the machine is likely salvageable, he said.
Kenneth Waesche snapped a photo of the sunken ice machine when he stopped by Lakeside Village for a pickup game of hockey. His wife planned to do some skating.
Waesche said that the "thin ice" sign in the foreground of the photo was some distance away from where the Zamboni went in.
The lake is typically open from Dec. 18 to March. 28 depending on the weather, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
