Panger replaces Federko in Blues' TV booth
Whoa, is this an ungrade? I luv me some Panger on Center Ice but what about Bernie and his famous malapropisms? What about the Blackhawk stank?
Now don't get to frettin too much Bernie fans, he's heading down to the ice between the benches ala Pierre.
Dang me, Pang me
They oughta take a rope and hang me

JD would you weep for me.

Wow
Hall of Famer. Retired number. Statue.
Now I will be the first to admit that Federko had his short comings. But this is shocking. Panger is a former Blackhawk goaltender. 27-35-7 career record in 81 games with a 4.04 goals-against.
So when Panger says, “I don’t think he ever saw that one” or “Mason had no chance,” Panger can relate.

addendum
Panger is a “national” name. On Center Ice, I did enjoy watching some of the Yotes on late games and thought he did a good job.

Yaaah!
That creepy snowman thing! What an odd mini-mascot idea.
Anyway, I’ll actually miss Bernie being the color guy because it was always so entertaining to listen to him slaughter the English language. I’m sure he’ll do a better “between the benches” thing than McGuire (like that’s hard).
What is up with retired goaltenders who have sub-par records being effective analysts of the game? Darren Elliot dies a good job too for VS and SI. You’d think that if they could know the game THAT well they would have made a better goaltender.

Panger was limited . . .
by the fact that he’s shorter than a damn leprechaun. Dude should’ve been an amateur wrestler.

Darren Seems like a good sport too
I clearly don’t like him since he’s a goalie but this move is an improvement and hopefully it is a move that gets us one step closer to not listening to Kelly who I’m sure is a real solid dude. Just not my cup of green tea.
Welcome Mr. Pang, I will no longer be speaking to you because of the Cardinal Rule Of Goalies. Speak only when spoken to and you really shouldn’t even say anything any way.

Pang seems alright to me
And I suppose I don’t know too much about him other than he was a goalie who was really short.
But why not promote from within and give Kelly Chase a chance in the TV booth?

Hasn't Chase been between the benches?
Hopefully Pang has enough self-preservation instinct to get out of Chaser’s way…

I might be going crazy
But I think Bernie could be really good on the ice level. He’s pretty good at noticing some little things on the ice and that’d pretty much be his only role now.

Awesome!
Panger is great! Just makes me all the more excited for this season to start. Now, if we also add a veteran d-man that wears the #56, my heart might not even make it to the start of the season.

JD is upgrading the Blues
Just another indication that JD is upgrading the Blues, even the broadcast. We are in good hands.

Room for Bernie & Chaser between benches though?
Chase is the tough guy who never played for Detoilet, but Bernie signs his name in a very special way… H…O…F… Who gets the elbow room?

was thinking the same thing
There’s sometimes a photographer in there as well I think. Maybe this means Chase goes back up stairs.

with his recent health, i can see him going back upstairs.
….dunno if his situation is preventing him from standing all the time or anything…. just a thought…

Unless it's for his health
I hope Chase can still do something like it. If, because of his health, he needs to sit… (huff-huff) By all means… (huff-huff) Excuse me…
I get a little emotional thinkn bout the Chaser having to fight this invisible opponent.

we must have the shortest announce tandem in the NHL now, with two midgets calling the plays on tv.
my only beef really with Pang is that constant creepy grinning stare he does…

But now we'll have someone on VS and NBC...
… who actually gives a flying rip about us. Perhaps… and I’m going out on a limb… we can be one of those Sunday broadcasts for the West? I mean, yes, the other team has to be Detroit or Chicago, but still.

So who wins the JK vs Panger mental patient stare throw down?
I’m going with JK, he’s got Normie Bates down to a T.

I'd have fired Kelley first or in a Family Guy moment found myself next to him in the both
when he starts his whole thank you thank you thing and turned and shot him with a .45 cal hand gun, probably a xmd.

I like it
I was stunned, but I like it. I’d prefer Chicken Parm, but I like it. An upgrade over Bernie, although Panger’s unbridled enthusiasm is sometimes a little over the top. Pang’s insights are solid. (I echo Answer Man about the shame he’s a goalie, though. Crazy bastards.)
I love that he mentioned the Hrkac 4 goals on him in the P-D article. I know he’s mentioned every single goal scored against him at one point or another, but to me that night defined Panger and Hawks goaltending. (Oh hi, Greg Millen, things not as grand anymore? Thanks for fetching Jeff Brown … enjoy Keenan.) Sadly, it did not define Hrkac.

Improvement overall.
I can agree with it. This also removes Dan McLaughlin from anything to do with Blues broadcasts, as it appears to me . . . and as most fellow Cardinals fans can agree to . . . THAT is improvement upon itself.
Anyway, this would – in my book – be about the second-best thing that could’ve happened in the broadcast booths in this offseason beyond swapping TV and radio crews. I give it one thumb up, the other thumb . . . telling McLaughlin to go fuck himself in its’ own special way.

If I had my way...
I would have brought back Joe Micheletti.
As far as hockey color analyst go, he is one of the best. The next best thing is Kelly Chase. He’s getting better and better…

bring back Ken Wilson...
I cannot deal with another “Thank you!! Thank you!!! Thank you!!!” call after the blues score a goal. While “Oh Baby!!” was way overused I think most people actually like it.

Make sure and don't count me in those that like the "Oh Baby"
One of the lamest goal calls ever heard. That line should only be used in a East STL whore house.

I can't even tell you
how thankful I am that Kelly used the “Un…be….lievable!” Call on The Oshie Goal.
Otherwise I would never be able to watch the replay. And this would make me very sad.

Hopefully...
There will be many more unique calls like that in the next few, hell, several years.
(That was an amazing goal…)
Anyone else as excited as I am about the coming season? I don’t EVER remember being this excited for the coming hockey season.

The reason Wilson got shit-canned
was that he didn’t seem too interested in the team (AKA, he didn’t “work the locker room”). Dude was a tremendous hockey broadcaster though.
That’s one of the handful of improvements that JK has over KW . . . he actually gives a rat’s ass about the team and will do interviews and promotion and stuff. Which is nice to do when you’re essentially employed by the team itself.
