McKee to sign with Pens

Various sources like Hockeybuzz Metzer and Strickland and hockey insider types on twitter are saying the Pens will sign Jay McKee to a 1 year $800,000 contract tonight or tomorrow.

I am a BIG Pens fan (as well as Blues of course) and I am thrilled. I know a lot of people jumped on Jay for what he did at a $4mil cap hit. But Jay fills a HUGE void left by Scuderi and Gill leaving via FA. The Pens put a high valu eon shot blocking and Jay is one of the best.

He isn't getting younger and he has a legit shot for a Cup next year. Congrats Jay. Your a good guy and a decent hockey player, go win something with the Pens.

Wish no ill will for McKee

Solid hockey player, just wasn’t worth the prce we were paying him. at 800,000, he’s a great signing for Pittsburg to be a 3rd line defensemen. Good luck to him

The Pens peeps I know on Twitter...

… think he’s the perfect replacement for Gill. With his style and shot blocking abilities, I’m inclined to agree.

That, and he’s pulling 2 paychecks, so I can’t begrudge him that one either.

He is the Hal Gill replacement. Metzer (who overs the Pens for Hockeybuzz) thinks he’ll end up with Letang. I just don’t see that. I think he is better used as a safety net for Goligoski. Like he did for EJ and Polak at times.

Thgat and Eaton is way more mobile than McKee and is about as good defensively.

Fragile Jay . . .

best of luck in Pittsburgh. Don’t choke on any of those throw-everything-inside-the-bread sandwiches they serve out there, and you’ll be good.

This seems like a solid veteran pickup for the Pens, quite honestly. Problem is, he could step on a crack in the sidewalk tomorrow and be out for four months. Thems would be the breaks.

I wasn’t a fan of those sandwiches, despite enjoying similar ones out in New Jersey one summer.

I liked McKee, but as many have reiterated, he wasn’t worth the $4mil.

A warning to all the Pens rookies next season

If you get drunk in a Pittsburgh bar and start hitting on a really ugly chick, you could wake up the next morning next to McKee.

Keystone Lake Zamboni falls through thin ice

A Zamboni took a dip in North America's largest groomed skating pond at Keystone Resort tonight.
A driver was grooming the lake at about 6:15 p.m., when the ice cracked and the 7,000-pound machine began to sink at about 6:15 p.m. As a precaution, skaters were cleared from another area of the 5-acre pond, resort spokesman Ryan Whaley said. The driver was not injured.
There was no word immediately on how soon the rink might re-open, but staff will examine the ice and remove the Zamboni Wednesday, Whaley said.
"They'll take it out and we'll see how it is," Whaley said of the machine and the safety of the ice around the crater.
With a lake that large, other areas could reopen immediately, he said.

Once it dries out, the machine is likely salvageable, he said.
Kenneth Waesche snapped a photo of the sunken ice machine when he stopped by Lakeside Village for a pickup game of hockey. His wife planned to do some skating.
Waesche said that the "thin ice" sign in the foreground of the photo was some distance away from where the Zamboni went in.
The lake is typically open from Dec. 18 to March. 28 depending on the weather, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
