Monday Links
Well I hope you all had a great weekend, mine was pretty good. Not to sound like an old man, but it's August already -- how did that happen? Anyway, on to the links.
Blues news
- Young T.J. Oshie is very popular among St. Louis Blues fans. (H/T Hildy) [Grand Forks Herald]
- Every single day when I'm searching for news, this guy pops up. So I figured I'd share it with you all. There is a new book about W.C. Handy, the composer of the "St. Louis Blues." [Seattle Times Newspaper]
Hockey news
- Dany Heatley to the Sharks? Does the little bitch want to play in San Jose? Who knows, I just wish the Sens had the balls to just suspend him for being a prick. [TSN]
- I swear, the Marian Hossa contract just keeps getting better and better. [TSN]
- Alex Burrows hit a kid in the face, and now might face legal charges. [Nucks Misconduct]
- This is what the offseason does, it forces bloggers to guess what their team might wear during a January game. [Stanley Cup of Chowder]
- Will Ilya Kovalchuk stay in the Dirty South or go somewhere else? Better question, if Kovie leaves the Thrash for the Blues, what would Hildymac's reaction be? [Puck Daddy]
Other links
- In case you didn't know, it's Shark Week on the Discovery Channel. Here's a sweet bus ... [Every Day I'm Tumblin']
- ... which leads me to the greatest Shark-related site that is not Fear the Fin. [FUCK YEAH SHARKS]
- The url says it all. [Women With Mustaches]
Video
It's Monday which means its time for another '80s movie song. Today, Back to the Future. Yes, it's Huey Lewis and the News with Power of Love.

Oh my GOD, Mondays suck.
I walk into my classroom this AM for pre-planning and what do I find? A MASSIVE PUDDLE on the floor from where they didn’t seal the tiles after installing a new A/C. My classroom smelled of mold, ammonia, and ass. Now they have two huge fans going in here to dry the floor out, and they sucked up the water, but the moldy carpet remains.
But hey, they mounted my LCD projector and gave me ceiling speakers, so the hoss tripping hazard that was my floor is now clear.
And about that PuckDaddy article… that was probably the most even-handed, non smack in the face to the Thrashers article about that topic I have ever read. Kovy wants to stay here – he digs it. He’s a superstar, he’s appreciated, but he’s not stalked by the media and he can run errands and go out with his family without people jumping him. There’s really no reason, if this team comes together this season, for him not to re-up at an attractive price. Bogosian, Enstrom, Kane, Little… Todd White had an outstanding season as did Kozlov, and now that we have Kubina and Antropov (who he requested), we should be successful. He might not sign by camp, but I really think that he’ll re-sign before the new year.
But if he wants to come to St. Louis, well… I might be a Thrashers fan, but I am sure as hell a Blues fan first. The thought of he and Boyes on the same line brings tears to my eyes as far as the scoring potential goes… but man, the minus rating on that line would be horrible. I think I could get over it really fast, though.

Pujols takes out "I" in BIG and "A" in MAC, previously considered to be an unyielding, consonant threat

Pretty much.
Though the lady who runs the official fan club for the team (Yes, the Thrashers’ fan club is actually run by fans. For free) is basically on a first name basis with most of the team – she lives in the same city they do and winds up bumping into them at the grocery store and the mall, and they always say hi to her – and occasionally Slater harasses her very obviously in public.
I love hockey guys – they’re totally unpretentious. Of course, the guys down here are probably so shocked by recognition that they want to cry if someone comes up to them in public. Slater and Exelby had drinks in the sports bar attached to Philips and no one noticed. Hell, Mark Recchi used to get Chic-Fil-A before games in the CNN Center and no one noticed. I can see the blessings and the curses behind that. At least Kovy got voted ATL athlete of the year in 2008, I think (could have been 2007). With the athletes we have down here, he needs to get it every year.

That was fucking hilarious!
And of course, CCR would’ve never linked to it if it weren’t partially about our beloved Dutchie.

American Psycho
I think their undisputed masterpiece is “Hip to be Square”, a song so catchy, most people probably don’t listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it’s not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it’s also a personal statement about the band itself.
And I don’t have an axe, so no worries there.
