Pretty impressive beginning by Derek Armstrong. Hit the post with an almost shorthanded goal in the 3rd period.
By the way, does anybody know when a Blues' player last had a Gordie-Howe hat trick in the regular season? And, has it ever happened for a Blues' player in the playoffs?
Still, I am not sure I am on board with the Armstrong idea. Or, the Bell or Sydor era. I would prefer the younger guys. Plus, I am a big Steve Wagner fan, ever since I saw him make one of the best passes in Blues' history two seasons ago to send fellow-rookie David Perron in on a breakaway against the Red Wings. At that point, Wagner was one of our best defensemen, and playing with great confidence. Then, fragile Jay McKee finally got back into the lineup, and then Wagner was inexplicably the odd-man-out. He was sent down to Peoria, and broke his leg. Now, he is to Andy Murray just like Brendan Ryan used to be to LaRussa: every mistake is magnified. I wish the Blues would just let him play: we need offensive defensemen..... the team always says that, but then they bury guys like Steve Wagner and glorify guys like Weaver. The Blues have drafted one guy first overall and another fourth overall trying to find that offensive defenseman. I hope that E Johnson can bounce back, but I am worried that Pieterangelo may be a bust. Wtih draft picks that high, you expect a great player. And most great players do not get sent back to Juniors.
