Just proving I'm not, in fact, Insane

This goes back to last week and the link on Garfield as Garfield. Here is the Bloom County strip the idea was "borrowed" from.

Jesus, I just went back and found the post you’re referring to — and I’d missed your link to the “missing” Bloom County strips. Damn, what a find.

I swear I remember several of those, but maybe they just fit in so well that they sound familiar. (The “New Coke” one I’m certain I saw, unless they ran one similar to it that’s in the books.) I haven’t gotten the books out in a long time, but every once in a while I tell someone how it would have gotten them through Reagan and then I think, “I should read through those again…”

Brilliant stuff.

YEah starting this October "Bloom COunty" is being rereleased...

…in hardcover, with Breathed providing “context” pages to explain the political humor in an attempt to make me feel as old as fucking possible.

Not that that will keep me from buying them…

I’ve just spent half an hour looking at those old ones and the changes he made in the Opus book. Now I’m scared he’s going to make more changes. … but yeah, still will buy it.

Well shit . . .

I think I just figured out what my brother’s getting for Christmas. He’s much more of a Bloom County fan than I am!

One day, David Backes and Albert Pujols will combine forces to become the most awesome piece of violent force known to man.

the scary thing is....

…I had trouble finding it at first when I was going through the books. I began to think “Did I dream this shit??”

by Rich of GASL on Sep 23, 2009 4:22 PM CDT up reply actions

I remembered it, but my god it would’ve taken me all night to find it. I was just wondering how in hell you guessed the right book or even section, but I imagine it was a lot of trial and error.

Well....I first looked in...

Penguin Dream & Stranger THings, but ti wasn’t there…so I said screw it and went straight to the Babylon book.

I loved Calvin and Hobbes, too. It was just different. The end of Bloom County, The Far Side and C&H felt like successive gut punches by the universe. But looking at strips that carry on forever, it’s probably best they quit while they were still great.

Milo, as in Bloom and Aukerman.

/Thanks for bringing back the memories, Rich.

PS

My faves are when Opus smokes a Marlboro, when while Opus is watching Mister Rogers he pronounces “public servant” as “bozo”, and when the farmer says, “tain’t corn -it’s dope” then offers Senator Bedfellow a bushel to take home to his wife.

Beauties, all of them.

Speaking of … is it wrong that I had the hots for Lola Granola? Hot, unstable, and willing to date even a lowly penguin? Sign me up.

I was at Harry's bar last night on Market Street and look who walks by me. Talked to him a bit and he seems ready for the season to start. Guy has bulked up a lot. Guessing he's 6'1-6'2 and up to 215-225. He's a tank.
