Will this week ever end?

Blues news

Hockey news

  • Wednesday's action. [Yahoo!]
  • Thursday's games. [Yahoo!]
  • ESPN tackles realignment. What I learned? John Buccigross is insane, Pierre LeBrun doesn't understand travel costs, Barry Melrose thinks divisions complicate things and Scott Burnside wants a vagabond team. Really, the NHL needs ESPN back? With insight like this? [ESPN]
  • Peter Forsberg can't quit hockey. [ESPN]
  • Not a lot of news here, I'm just a huge Curtis Joseph fan. [Pension Plan Puppets]
  • Manny Malholtra knows the way San Jose ... and Fear the Fin seems to like the move. [Fear the Fin]
  • Olaf Kolzig is calling it a career, and a fine one at that. [TSN]
  • Jim Balsillie says he would keep the Coyotes in Phoenix for this season. Gee, how nice. [ESPN]

Other links

  • I'm not a Northwestern fan, nor a shill for SB Nation (they don't pay me enough), but I have to share with you all the blog with best name ever. Kudos, Sippin' on Purple, for having an awesome name. [Sippin' On Purple]
  • A place for stoners to put their ideas they get when they are high. My buddy in college would record his thoughts into a tape recorder -- his "best" idea was to replace outfield warning tracks with trampolines. [highIdeas]
  • A look at all the McDonalds in the United States. [The Daily What]
  • The combover is not a good look. [Yep, Yep]

Video

This is, without a doubt, the weirdest thing you will see all day: A man dressed up to look like a deer. Posing. You've been warned.

Ok that was creepy. Non-creepy video after the jump.

If ESPN ever gets the NHL back, I think part of the deal should be that meth-head writers should not be allowed to write for them. That was beyond insane.

I’m no fan of the Wings going to the East. While it would make things much easier in the West, I’ll miss the extra 5 games against them. That’s good hockey.

Just say no to a Euro division. Too much travel.

40 teams??? I’m surprised Bucci isn’t dead from all the drugs. If you continue to play every team each year, that’s 2 times each plus 4 extra given the current 82-game plan. Rivalries wouldn’t mean much if you only meet twice a year.

A traveling team is just stupid. ESPN should fire Burnside for that suggestion alone. If you need a second reason this guy fails as a writer, see the Boston in the West.

BND IS STEALING THUNDER

That article is awesome, but didnt someone on this site recently post a video of it?
Im thinkin there is a connection here, it was posted here on GT first

Sydor is a G and I dont think he will be slowed down, and even if he is thats all for the better as he will be more of a stay at home offensive d-man if paired with petro (that made no sense but yeah, hell be the sweeper and petro will be the runner – count on it

Im so excited for this season i might explode

John Buccigross might just be insane...

…but on the other hand the regular season could be roughly 96 games, AND the playoffs would be longer. There would be almost no off-season. I’ve heard of worse things.

He is right about one thing…we could use more teams. But he’s wrong for not promoting a promotion/relegation system. The NHL system could easily handle a First and Second division each with 24 teams (48 total.)

…in what city does Buci think the Wild play in now? The Excel is in St. Paul big guy.

So many things going on in that group picture..

Backes’ fist is covering the money and DJ King’s head looks photoshopped in.

You couldn’t see even a fourth of the guys in that photo. Oshie, arguably one of the big ticket sellers can barely be seen. He may not deserve to have a front row yet but put him on an end.

That McDonalds photo was awesome. I have 3 McD’s within 2 miles of me, I mean come on, what were they thinking.

RE: ESPN thing

I’m with the Hockey Prof. Bucci’s idea isn’t the least crazy, but I don’t know even if revenue sharing were more aggressive, some of those locations still may not be tenable for NHL hockey, but it’s a far more interesting concept than a simple realignment. Hopefully, Lebrun’s wasn’t intended to be taken seriously, because it’s pretty riGODDAMNdiculous. Without wacky scheduling changes, a European division isn’t do-able.

On top of Oshie being relegated to the background, it looks like Johnson’s waaaaaay at the back of that screencap.

Gillespie is 10 miles north of me.

Also, it’s the hometown of the Prospects Department. Also, it’s where my father is employed. Still . . . my aunt and her boyfriend have been STH’s for a few years now, and if I were them I’d be totally fucking pissed.

Northwestern was the only school that had not been represented with a blog at SBNation. While I’ll still be loyal to the Illini . . . I have to admit that the name and that logo are both awesome as all fuck! (In college, we used to call that beverage “Purple Hooter”. The first three or four of them were always much more tasty than the next ten.)

And on that second video . . . seriously, the term “punch you in the dick” should become a mandatory anger reaction, no?

One day, David Backes and Albert Pujols will combine forces to become the most awesome piece of violent force known to man.

I'm such a sucker for those pre-game videos

The one two seasons ago with all the guys in suits? Loved it. These guys are serious about wanting to play here and play hard for the fans.
The one last season with all the guys walking through St. Louis like cult leaders? Loved it. They’re not only serious, they’re accessible. They wear normal clothes like you and me sometimes, and everyone loves them.
So despite all of the flaws in that preview pic, I’m excited to see what they have in store for us this year.

I’d want to live in it.

Used to be Aaron, but some douchebag Celtics fan has that one already.

Keystone Lake Zamboni falls through thin ice

A Zamboni took a dip in North America's largest groomed skating pond at Keystone Resort tonight.
A driver was grooming the lake at about 6:15 p.m., when the ice cracked and the 7,000-pound machine began to sink at about 6:15 p.m. As a precaution, skaters were cleared from another area of the 5-acre pond, resort spokesman Ryan Whaley said. The driver was not injured.
There was no word immediately on how soon the rink might re-open, but staff will examine the ice and remove the Zamboni Wednesday, Whaley said.
"They'll take it out and we'll see how it is," Whaley said of the machine and the safety of the ice around the crater.
With a lake that large, other areas could reopen immediately, he said.

Once it dries out, the machine is likely salvageable, he said.
Kenneth Waesche snapped a photo of the sunken ice machine when he stopped by Lakeside Village for a pickup game of hockey. His wife planned to do some skating.
Waesche said that the "thin ice" sign in the foreground of the photo was some distance away from where the Zamboni went in.
The lake is typically open from Dec. 18 to March. 28 depending on the weather, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
