Sydor signs..
1 year contract for $1million. Jonas Junland sent to Peoria and Yan Stastny clears waivers.
Well, Sydor is experienced, seems to want to play in St Louis...and importantly, the players seem to want him there. If, as has been reported, he's become a bit of a mentor for Pietrangelo, then that's all to the good.
So, Pietrangelo on a 9 game trial, you think? Can you really see him being sent back to Juniors? What can he learn there anymore? Sometimes I think you have to take a chance on a guy. He's done well so far and yes, he'll make mistakes, but that's how you learn.
Anyway - welcome to the Blues, Darryl Sydor. (Just please...don't get confused again when we play Dallas ...)

So, basically, Dallas signs a guy we didn’t want anymore and we sign a guy they didn’t want anymore.

That sucks...
but at the same time, if the scuttlebutt about this guy is true and he’s not doing the off-season work that he needs to, I say go for the tried and true veteran. Word is that Junland is a little bit too confident.
Confidence w/out the skill and conditioning to back it up is useless.
Not a personal attack by any means, I just think a guys gotta work for his minutes.

yeah
That was my first thought too. Too bad for him. And will further ensure that everyone in the Globe is rooting for the Red Wings.
I was SO hoping for "My Name Is Yonas" to make the club.
But hey, if Sydor had a good camp and they like what they see . . . fuck it. Let’s see what ya got, old man!
One day, David Backes and Albert Pujols will combine forces to become the most awesome piece of violent force known to man.
Great
signing
I think.
Coz I believe in that part of the ‘Sydor being a mentor for Pietrangelo’…

I'm probably in the minority and reaching at nothing, but
is anyone else at least taken aback by the fact that he’s wearing #44? Not that it would was likely to be retired by the Blues without Pronger triumphantly returning and leading us to a Cup (which with his 7 year contract in Philly is not going to happen), but it’s still very much associated with the man who’s still rather popular in the area.
I’m not saying it can’t be worn ever again, and maybe since the current Blues are begining to be popular and successfull again in their own right now is the time to pick the mothballs off of it. It just came as a minor shock to me when I first heard/saw that.
Honestly, I'm not much of a conspiracy theorist.... But...
…I did happen to notice the timing of “no one wears No. 44” lasted from the day he was traded until the first pre-season after he signs the retirement contract with Philly.
Not to say thta he can’t still end up here via trade at some point, but I think it just finally stopped being a number that people protected.
I have no problem with it.
I would have had no problem with it if someone would have taken it the season after he left. Pronger is so into 44, he doesn’t even wear it anymore…
I think today that numbers take on some talismanic significance that old-timers never ascribed to them.
Case in point: Red Berenson wore #7 for the Blues (and had a six goal game while wearing it). In a trade with Detroit, Berenson went to Detroit and wore #7, while the main guy for whom he was traded, Garry Unger, came to StL and wore #7 immediately. When Berenson came back to the Blues about four years later, he took #9 – Unger still had #7. No big deal.
Now, if numbers mean so much, #7 should have been retired for Berenson and/or Unger; furthermore, #5 should be retired, too. Lowery was pretty good, too – should we toss in #10?
Maybe #44 should have not even made it to Pronger; After all, Mario Marios was a pretty unique player.

Rec'd
simply for use of the word ‘talismanic.’
You, sir, just made this whole site seem smarter.
Plus, a Mario Marois reference that just made everyone go grab their copies of the Blues Media Guide.
Flipped a coin between those two for the post.
Let's go Blues!!!
