Tuesday links: Where we always keep our passport in the glove box

It's Tuesday. Closer to Friday than Monday, but still farther away than Wednesday.

Blues news

  • Blues vs. Linkopings today at noon. Follow along on the Blues Web site. Gotta say, I might have to pull for Linkopings -- I dig their name. [Blues]
  • The Blues Web site has its own preview of the Blues. It's shockingly positive. [Blues]
  • This story is serious: the Blues are wearing matching outfits while in Sweden. Didn't know they were 5-years-old. [Belleville News-Democrat]
  • David Backes, the most important player on the Blues not named Chris Mason, hopes to not start slowly. [Stltoday.com]
  • Andy Murray is already making statements and changing lines. So glad to have him back. [Stltoday.com]
  • Damn youngsters and their football ... [Morning Skate]
  • From DanGNR: Why is T.J. Oshie driving so poorly that he has to slam on the brakes to avoid running a red? And, why is his car so shitty that when he does that, his glove box opens? [Blues]

Hockey news

  • Manny Legace has been cut ... by the Thrashers. I'm hoping he didn't cut himself, that would be sad. Do you think he cried after hearing the news or did he wait until he got in the car so he could put on some Dashboard Confessional and weep on the way home? (H/T Hildymac who is not happy with the news.) [Thrashers]
  • NHL.com is talking to DirecTV subscribers. [NHL]
  • Florida lost to a Finnish team 3-2. Not good times for the Panthers. [TSN]
  • Brian McGrattan wants to lead the league in fighting majors. Boy fights sure are spontaneous, eh? [Calgary Herald]
  • Theo Fleury calls it quits. [TSN]
  • The Leafs can make the playoffs. Maybe. Possibly. Probably not, but maybe. [The Spin]
  • The Olympics are coming! Hide the children. [TSN]
  • From Cross Check Raise, meet Wheaton King of the Brandon Wheat Kings. [The Score]

Ah, the morning links!

Yet another reminder that I should have started my homework sooner so I didn’t have to go to sleep AFTER they’re posted. Oh college!

BTW, I’m proposing a theory Osh’s driving skills – or shoddy glove box – are clues to the mystery of the BERMUDA CUP!

I know it's time for hockey because I've started singing "Don't Stop Believing" with the words "...born and raised in FUCK DETRIOT!!!"

“Hildymac who is not happy with the news”
That is nothing compared to what is going on in Michigan with Carnie.

If the Blues are supposed to be wearing those sweat suits the whole time I hope they got more than one set.

Listening to an interview on KMOX last night with Sydor. He had been to Sweden and done the scavenger hunt before. Everyone was hoping to get him as a partner to have a leg up.

At least...

… they’re not wearing neon green Family Reunion t-shirts. It’s easy to find people in those, though, so I guess if Walt wanders off they can figure out where he is pretty quickly.

And you called it – Carnie is pissed. Shockingly enough, she’s not the only one.

I’m more pissed because I’m fucking sick and tired of Kari Lehtonen, and Ondrej Pavelec is 22, and could stand another year in the AHL. But what do I know?

BTW, the Osh link’s all screwed up. And the Panthers lost to a Finnish team? Hahahahaha. The Blackhawks killed the team they played yesterday 9-2. Why does the NHL insist on sending at least one sad little team to Europe? Wonder if the ’Yotes are starting next season there.

This is one of those moments where the feeling of wanting to explode the world last for more than a few moments….. fuck it this is gonna burn for a long fucking time.

Seriously…. what a fucking bitch slap to the face… it kinda feels like someone with brass knuckles just took a swipe at my eyes and then lit me on fire. And I’m not even supposed to be defeat-able and I feel of this.

This especially hits home for me. One time, being one of the top players in the state, was cut from my team because of “behavior problems.” And guess what happened to them and me? They just fell into a losing abyss and I went on to a team that played in the midwest regional league. So fuck um. And I don’t believe something similar will happen for Manny… well because he’s Manny, and he has the shittiest luck I’ve ever seen someone have. I mean if a person has crappier luck than me… well then you are pretty much fucked with three forks.

I will not cry!

Depends on which you prefer...

Quick and painless or slow and excruciating?

Sorry. I don’t care that they signed Maxim Afinogenov today or not, and that they actually have three pretty good scoring lines and a decent top four.

The coaches have fucked us over with the goalie, plain and simple. We could have actually played decently this season, except we have a twelve year old between the fucking pipes.

Sorry I keep going on about it, but this is the only place I’m allowed to cuss. Fuck.

So is this Linkoping game going to be aired on NHl.com like the Hawks game was yesterday?

I once shot a man just to see him die...then I got distracted and missed it.

Of course not.

The Victoria Cup game against the Hawks and whoever they’re going to slaughter in the name of entertainment is on.

Wait a minute...

…Stabenow wants me to buy Senator Kyl’s mother maternity insurance? Or did she want Senator Kyl to purchase the insurance while he was still in utero?

Are we sure this is a quick witted response? Seems more dim witted.

by Rich of GASL on Sep 29, 2009 2:03 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I think

that the point is that Kyl’s mother could have used more prenatal care. She is saying that there is something wrong with him because his mother did not have enough prenatal medical.

Cam Janssen

His over/under has been established and summarized, his reason for being on the team is known, he has been sent to Peoria apparantly. (I just got internet back after a 3 day hell)

After reading that smug bitch Brian McGrattan’s latest Sean Avery attempt at douchebaggery I think it would be prudent for Cam or DJ King to declare him possibly marked by other enforcers (shedding the obvious message sent, I want your face; and aside from that, the actual important aspect, I want the fucking job! Seriously though, it will not happen, this is hypothetical, but with the murky situation going on with DJ’s rehab and current ability level during full speed play, obviously aside from his established physical presence, and Cam being a native of St. Louis so my homer ass cant help but want him out there, one of them should make a statement, more than showing on the ice. Enforcing is not like watching how a player uses his skill sets, not for the scholar, and can be done by many people well. One of them needs to stand up more than the other, I know Cam goes apeshit during fights, and DJ is one Ogre ass fucker who can pummel, i dont know why this post is so long either

Gotta love that 6-0 effort though

Keystone Lake Zamboni falls through thin ice

A Zamboni took a dip in North America's largest groomed skating pond at Keystone Resort tonight.
A driver was grooming the lake at about 6:15 p.m., when the ice cracked and the 7,000-pound machine began to sink at about 6:15 p.m. As a precaution, skaters were cleared from another area of the 5-acre pond, resort spokesman Ryan Whaley said. The driver was not injured.
There was no word immediately on how soon the rink might re-open, but staff will examine the ice and remove the Zamboni Wednesday, Whaley said.
"They'll take it out and we'll see how it is," Whaley said of the machine and the safety of the ice around the crater.
With a lake that large, other areas could reopen immediately, he said.

Once it dries out, the machine is likely salvageable, he said.
Kenneth Waesche snapped a photo of the sunken ice machine when he stopped by Lakeside Village for a pickup game of hockey. His wife planned to do some skating.
Waesche said that the "thin ice" sign in the foreground of the photo was some distance away from where the Zamboni went in.
The lake is typically open from Dec. 18 to March. 28 depending on the weather, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
