Blues Sign Derek Armstrong
Norm Sanders says:
Veteran center Derek Armstrong signed a two-way contract Tuesday with the St. Louis Blues.
The 36-year-old Armstrong had five goals and nine points in 56 games with the Los Angeles Kings last season. He also had 63 penalty minutes and a plus-minus rating of minus-11.
How will the Armstrong era be remembered when it is all over?

Wow.
Just pulled up his stats at Hockey Reference . . . and all I can say is . . . average.
Then again, this would be about like when the Cardinals signed Tagg Bozied before 2007 Spring Training. See, he is a first baseman. In signing him, the Cardinals told him – in essence – “Look, there’s no way in fucking hell you’re gonna make the big league squad, but we’re gonna sit here and pretend you have a chance. As your reward, you get to pound the living batshit out of AAA pitching all season. Whaddayasay, buster?” The numbers bear out that he had a pretty good season for an otherwise shitty Memphis team that year. (I am in no way saying that Peoria is going to suck horse nuts this year).
Anyway, is Derek any relation to Blues General Manager Of The Future . . . Doug?
One day, David Backes and Albert Pujols will combine forces to become the most awesome piece of violent force known to man.
1) Derek Armstrong is a good guy, funny, and a pleasure to have in the locker room. Last year he was the driving force behind a season-long ping pong tournament in the Kings’ locker room that seemed to bring the team together.
2) It’s going to be hilarious watching you guys lose your shit when Andy Murray (who loves Armstrong) has Army centering your 2nd line because he is “steady” or something.
The West Coast is the Best Coast.
This is hands down the scariest comment I've ever read...
…because it sounds so damn plausible.

Yeah the Andy Murray love fest aspect scares me a bit
But if he can drop the gloves at all in a decent manner then can we say good bye to Cam “Is there more to hockey than throwing fists and skating forward fast” Janssen or DJ “I can actually play this game if all the other players were in slow motion and I was in real speed” King.
In the end he’ll be good depth in Peoria helping to shore up so consistency down there with some of the new kids. But really we want and need to see an Eller or Palushaj up with the big boys this season.
I mean we need a kid contract to begin this season to keep the balance up and the rebuild going. I think we’re virtually rebuilt but a few spots away before we begin absolute dominance in the next three years.

Yet another nondescript Islanders draftee whose last breath comes with the Blues.
