Prospects On The Move This Weekend

By Brian Weidler, "Game Time" Prospect Department

Just like in the NHL, there's a trade deadline in the Canadian Hockey League (the three major junior leagues) as well... and it's this weekend.

Three of the five Blues prospects who came back from Saskatoon with hardware have gotten new addresses in the last few days, along with one other Blues prospect from the draft class of 2008.

Gold medalist Philip McRae (33rd overall in '08) was traded from the London Knights (owned and operated by ex-Blue Mark Hunter) to the Plymouth (MI) Whalers in the Ontario League, and silver medal winner Alex Pietrangelo (4th overall in '08) was dealt to the OHL-leading Barrie Colts by the bottom-dwelling Niagara Ice Dogs.

The Whalers also traded with Sault Ste. Marie to acquire winger James Livingston, drafted 70th overall by the Blues in 2008.

Meanwhile, in the Quebec League, goaltender Jake Allen (34th overall in '08)was moved from Junior de Montreal to the Drummondville Voltigeurs hours before playing for Team Canada against Team USA in the championship game of the 210 U-20 World Juniors. Drummondville is one of the top clubs in the QMJHL, with a record of 30-12-0-2 in 44 games.

The text of the Allen trade announcement (www.juniordemontreal.com) follows (in English):

THE MONTREAL JUNIORS TRADE JAKE ALLEN

Montreal, January 6th, 2010 – The Montreal Juniors Hockey Club traded to the Drummondville Voltigeurs, 19 year-old goaltender Jake Allen (90-08-07), in return of a first round pick in 2010 and 2011.

Trades galore.

And all of them are helpful. Also kinda interesting to note that Blues prospects are being dealt to the same team. Schultz and Shattock the Hitmen, and McRae and Livingston on Plymoth. Good chance to see if they can develop some long term chemistry perhaps?

Thanks once again TB

I didn’t realize there was that much trading in the juniors. I guess I figured since these guys are only with the teams for a few years that didn’t happen as much.
Barrie gave up lots of draft picks for a guy they’ll only have for a few months in Petro.

The ends justify the means

These teams are just like NHL teams. They want to win a title, and the Colts are in a position to do that, and are hoping that a player as good as Pientrangelo is that last piece they need to win it all. Barrie has the 2nd best record in the OHL, tops in their confrence, only behind the Windsor Spitfires, which you might know better as that team that has Mark Cundari and has 42 points and +33 on it. I’m sure they are trying to figure out how they could beat Windsor in a series, and having Pietrangelo, who one would think would step in as the best defensemen in the league from day one is the answer.

Honestly, instead of talking about Cundari

Lets just say that’s the team with Tayor Hall.Works even better, yes?

Geez, it's a swap-meet fuck fantasy in the juniors this week . . .

let’s not tell Eklund about any of these. He might have a damn heart attack, and y’know, that’d be a shame . . . (nyuknyuknyuk).

I like the fact that these kids are well-enough thought of that they’re being traded to playoff contenders rather than bottom-dwelling well-feeders. I’m gonna guess things didn’t happen quite like this back in the Cockhammer Asshat Doucheweasel Keenan era.
