Great stuff; appreciate your hard work…
Any chance you’ll be in P-town Jan 30 and 31???

Few questions
1) I was under the impression Eller was a scorer(OT: I was at the game where he got his NHL goal, I didn’t see who went to the net and got the puck for him but it was a cool moment). He has a ton of assists and only 5 goals so is he a playmaker or just has a good triggerman?
2) Lehtera in the SEL has a ton of points, is that really good or is SEL just a high scoring league? Same for Shattock in the WHL.
3) Looking at it in the baseball sense as far as I understand it, Peoria is Triple-A and Alaska is Double-A yet we have very few prospects in the Alaska and a ton floating around in the OHL. Is the ECHL a lesser hockey league and its just better to have the prospects play through the OHL before having to drop them in Alaska?
One at a time...
1. Eller is both; it depends on where he’s playing. He’s playing mostly center in Peoria, and thus is more a set-up man in that role. In St. Louis, and in Sweden, he was playing on the wing, where his goal-soring touch can come more to the forefront. Center seems to be his “natural” position, or at least, the position where the Blues seem most inclined to use him, so I would expect the goals-to-assists ratio to continue to be tilted towards the assist column.
2. Lehtera plays in his native Finland, not in Sweden. SEL = Swedish Elite League; SML = SM-Liiga, or Finnish Elite League. That said, the SM-Liiga is not a particularly high-scoring league, reflecting the Finnish propensity towards defense and goaltending, and Lehtera is currently the league’s leading scorer at age 21.
The WHL, with Shattock, is a major junior league — there’s a good argument to be made that it’s the best of the three major junior leagues. A lot of high-scoring players come from that league; Brett Sonne was a 40-goal, 100-point player in the ’Dub last season.
3. You’re essentially correct in your asessment of the AHL as a Triple-A league, and the ECHL as a Double-A league. Both are professional leagues, where the OHL is an amateur league.
The AHL and ECHL both have a “20-year-old rule,” whereby a player drafted from the Canadian major junior leagues cannot play in those leagues until the season in which he attains his 20th birthday. This rule was instituted in order to prevent NHL teams from stocking their farm clubs with junior-age talent, and to keep junior-age stars in the junior leagues for a reasonable time in order to allow the junior teams to build — at least short-term — their game plans and marketing plans around those players.
There is also a 50-contract limit imposed on NHL organizations, so that no team can have more than 50 players under contract. With a 23-man roster in the NHL, this limits organizations to 27 contracts that they can distribute to their developing minor-league players. The Blues, like most organizations, have the bulk of those minor-league contracted players in Peoria, and the “fringe” AHLers — the Pelusos, Fasts, Tureks, etc. — are the ones who get to enjoy the occasional 10-hour airplane rides between Chicago and Anchorage.

Wow on the Lehtera front
I had kinda wrote him off, in spite of his stats this year but… Leagues Higher Scorer!?
Now if we can get him overseas and convince him that time in Peoria would be helpful for him long term.
Breaking News: I'm currently in the process of writing "I will not say and/or type "that word" 1,000 times.
id say echl
is an “a” league. not “aa”. cos if you really look, very few players go through the e to become dominate in the nhl even s 3rd liners only dj king was under payne in alaska (and that was for like 5 games), and dj king may not be an nhler. echl been working harder to become a prospect league, but really your in juniors/college/ whatever and if you got a large chance to be in the nhl you go to ahl as the lowest training level.
the blues roster has at most 51 total echl games. at at most 3 players who saw echl time. dj king (injured for pretty much two years) 5 games, and crombeen and strachan (ahl most of the year) have around 25 games each.
