Friday links: At least the Blues got a point edition

Watching the game last night was interesting. A week ago against the Sharks, I expected the Blues to win. Last night? I was waiting for something bad to happen. Not fun times.

I had a bad feeling during shoot out

And sadly I was right. Not a good feeling to have. Hope it goes away soon.
D’ags was awesome.

I’ve posted in two game threads. And both those games have gone to a shoot-out.

1-1.

Bill Guerin is a free agent....

I know he said he would “only play for a winner”, but would he come back. I thought I heard rumors of him not happy with the way he left here, but am I wrong? He’s not Oshie, but couldn’t he play on a third line with McClement and Steen/Dags? Give us something until Oshie comes back?

Assuming Perron comes back soon…your forwards would look like:

HappyMeal – Backes – Perron
Boyes – Berglund – Steen/Dags
Guerin – McC – Dags/Steen
Been – Sokotka – Janssen

Armstrong quotes....

“We are not looking outside this organization to replace T.J," Armstrong said. "We’re going to look internally first and see how our own players respond.”

So may as well omit my above post….

I dunno…the Blues probably can be OK with what they have right now. Sobotka and Dags are really going to have to cotinue to progress. Both those guys have some offensive skill, and we are going to need it. Brad Boyes not sucking would also help.

by hockeyno93 on Nov 12, 2010 9:29 AM CST up reply actions

Brad Boyes can't put the puck on the net

I don’t have much hope there.

Where I do have hope is that the Blues are currently at a 7.3% shooting percentage. Unless they are playing Dominik Hasek in his prime every game, we should expect that to get better.

For reference

That is 2nd worst in the league to NJ’s comical 5.8%, the worst in the league last year was Boston at 7.5% and the Blues last year shot 8.9%. Of course on the flip side of that Halak/Conklin aren’t going to put up a .929 save%, but still, the offense is not this bad.

"We are not looking outside this organization to replace TJ," Armstrong said. "We’re going to look internally first and see how our own players respond."

Well, based on Drazenovic’s play last night, there’s definitely hope lying in that direction. The boy from Prince George, BC, played fairly well last night, I thought.

Porter worked hard and didn’t look out of place. Didn’t hear his name much, which I take to mean that he was doing his job in workmanlike fashion.

Also, they’ve still got McRae and Hensick in Peoria who could probably help, if needed.

Well on the brightside

Last time we lost two we went on a seven game win streak. Thats something at least huh?

This whole injury thing sucks. Hard. But on the bright side, we know that we have some real hope in our AHL guys. We’re playing NHL teams with half our regular roster our, and besides the debacle a couple nights ago.

I’m wondering how long they hold on to Boyes? I like him and he has potential to be a great player, but if he can’t finish I wonder if they start seeing if anyone else has interest in him….

Boyes

The problem with that approach is, the longer he continues to be Teh Suck, the further his value drops.

As Denis Lemiuex would say, “trade him right fucking now,” while the Blues can still get more than a bag of unwashed jockstraps for him.

*Grumble*

All ya’ll sitting here yappin’ about trades and getting rid of people after just 2 lost games need to chill. Yeah, I’m aware of the fact that we have an “ability to score” issue. Yeah, I know our “veterans” who SHOULD be scoring aren’t…but just cause we lost 2 games this isn’t time to freak out.

At least we got a point last night after our trouncing the night before.

Give the new guys a chance to get their feet and lose the “OMGIMPLAYINGINTHENHL” jitters and see what happens.

That is all.

You are wise, young Padawan...

…but the Boyes issue is ongoing, and has been for a while. All I’m saying with him, is that if there’s any thought of moving him at all, best to do so quickly before his play drives his value down any further.

I can understand...

And I agree that he needs to pick it up…he needs to do something…and he needs to take his disease back from Happy Meal.

How I wish I could sit and watch him camp out on the circles on the PP and launch a 1 timer pass right into the net again like he did 2 years ago….GAH! Has it really been that long??

I thought he was Happy Fun Backes, whom you do not taunt.

Hmm.

Okay, we need the glossary of nicknames.

David Backes = Inglourious Backes
Jaroslav Halak = Halakness Monster
Ty Conklin = Conk-Block
Cam Janssen = CAM SMASH
Andy McDonald = Happy Meal
Vladimir Sobotka = Vodka
Nikita Nikitin = Opulence (He haz it?)

So, who’s dangerous enough to opposing teams’ teeth to be “Happy Fun” $PLAYER_NAME?

by Paperwork Ninja on Nov 12, 2010 2:22 PM CST up reply actions

Correction: Nikita Nikitin = N64

And you forgot:

D’Agostini = D’Ags (Or as discussed last night, apostrophe)
Patrick Berglund = Iceberg or Techo Viking
Alex Steen = the Nose

Any others I left off??

Okay, then "Opulence" should be reserved for some other Russian player to be named later.

Tarasenko’s nickname is “Tank” already, so that’ll stay. In fact, give him the number 34. The T-34 was a vicious litle tank for World War II…

I'm also declaring that Jay McClement is a Ninja.

First off, the J is silent. Second, I missed him on the initial go-round. Third, most people forget he’s on the ice until goal horn sounds. By then, it’s too late!

My brother, a New York Giants fan . . .

not-too-fondly recalls the LT/Theismann incident. I don’t remember seeing it because I was 4, but he was 8 at the time. If memory serves me properly, he said he threw up when he saw the replay. Hell, I would too.

I remember that game vividly.

Not just for LT jumping onto Thiesmann’s calf and snapping his leg like a twig… but for the seemingly infinite number of replays that ABC showed while “analyzing” it.

Oh, what a horrible, gruesome play. Here’s the play again, in super slow-motion this time. My goodness, what a devastating injury. Let’s look at the reverse-angle.

by BleedBlue42 on Nov 12, 2010 9:21 PM CST up reply actions

I didn’t even watch the vid when I submitted it. That one, the Radiers’ Napoleon McCallum bending over at the knee, and Moises Alou’s right ankle snapping at Busch are all on the Do Not Play list for me.
