Friday links: Home-ice advantage is real and it's awesome edition
Holy cow this is a fun Blues team to watch. Looks like I picked a good time to move back to the StL-area.
Blues news
- Thanks to Chris Gift, I got to witness Jaroslav Halak and the Blues shutout the Sharks. It. Was. Awesome. I'm in the market for a dog and I swear his name may be Jaro. [St. Louis Post-Dispatch]
-
Jaro is the top star in all the land![Puck Daddy]
- Puck Daddy says Joe Thornton shouldn't be suspended for his hit on David Perron. By the way, kudos to Perron for selling the shit out of that hit. [Puck Daddy]
- The Blues are growing up fast. It's pretty awesome. [USA Today]
- Missed the JR chat? Here's the full transcript. Enjoy. [JR Live]
- After a light October, the month of November is going to be a busy month. Bonus: A Dan O'Neill lede that has nothing to do with hockey. [St. Louis Post-Dispatch]
- A column in which I try to explain the Blues' hot start. [SB Nation St Louis]
- Davis Payne isn't worried about the Blues' scoring woes. He's crunched the numbers and knows that 7-1-2 is pretty damn good. [BND]
Hockey news
- Hockey is alive and well in South Florida! [Litter Box Cats]
- Panthers' GM Dale Tallon wants a coach's challenge. [TSN]
Other links
- Classic lit, On the Road, retold for bros. Way too much effort, but a solid execution. [On The Bro'd]
- First we had cheese people, now we have bread people. The internet is a truly amazing place. [Bread People]
- Five cartoons from the Oatmeal. Enjoy. [The Oatmeal]

A request from NatetheGreat: A salute to Jaro.
Next up: Chris Gift, who I can't thank enough for having an extra ticket, wanted to see some Zippo Awards on a Friday. Bam.
Be good to Poor College Student. He has the weekend. Send him stuff to gametimelinks(at)gmail.com

Yeah.....
I thought he died or somethin……
I still maintain Vladimir Konstantinov got what he deserved...If you can't handle that then kiss my ass......
"I've got a bad feeling about this..."
As of a year ago...
… he was alive and well.
The seventh picture
the one of Mitchell and Oshie, they look like they’re cracking each other up. Someone said something. I’d love to know what it is.

It is the sweet, simple things of life which are the real ones after all. Laura Ingalls Wilder
Montreal fans on TSN are still absolutely livid about Halak....
how the hell did we get this guy for a “good prospect”? The price should have been a top 6 forward….way to go Mr. Armstrong!
They got a top-6 forward.
At least, that’s what they’ll have if they give Eller time to mature.
there are a lot of factors that play into it.....
the Habs were right up against the cap….even if they could have gotten Perron, Oshie, or Berglund from us, they would have had to pay them more than Eller over the next two to three seasons and would have had to lose somebody else….
I guess it was fair, it’s just that their situation really, really played into our hands and we had the perfect player for their needs (a guy they can control for a few years with top 6 forward potential).
I’m sure this was a big part of the sell that Armstrong made. “You guys can’t afford a Perron or Oshie, but you can afford Eller, so how about it?”
Everything you're writing is true.
The problem is that Montreal’s fans wanted an instant-impact superstar-to-be, not a raw talent. They’re impatient, and they don’t want to wait for Eller to develop.
it is titled "Goaltender Trade Value"
I can’t figure out how to put a link on this damn site…it never works
1) Right-click on the URL of the page you want to link to. Select "Copy Link Location".
2) Write your post. Don’t copy-and-paste anything; if you do, go back and do #1 again.
3) Click and drag to highlight the words in your post that you want to create the link for.
4) Click the icon just above the post window that looks like chain links.
5) In the box that pops up, paste the link that you copied in #1. I always click the “open in new window” button too, so that anyone clicking the link doesn’t lose the GT page.
6) Click the “Preview” button to see what you’ve done. If the link doesn’t work, you can go back and fix it. If it does, hit “Post” and you’re done.
I believe you wanted to link to Goaltender Trade Value. It’s a good article. Love the picture at the top.
holy crap...what a process...figured it out though...Thanks!
yeah…that was the article….interesting listening to those guys make sense of it from their stand point
Winchester and Mayers
Anyone think there might be some bad blood there, or was Winchester just crazed because he got cut on his lip? Or just crazy in general trying to stay relevant on this Blues team?

Bernie said he didn’t know if they had some history or not, but when I first watched the fight yesterday, it seemed like Winchester wanted to keep pounding Mayers.

Sumpin lit a fire under Winny's azz
Those were bombs he was throwing and there was some heavy anger flowing in that fight. When players toss like that and go down in a death choke hold together there is no love. I bet it’s over a dang woman.
Just a chew toy for the hockey gods
Oh, man, he looks PISSED.
Yeah, that’s bad blood. Like “you insulted my mother and slept with my sister” bad blood. Wowzers.

Paul McCartney: We`re going to start a campaign to stamp out Detroit.
Why does that picture not look like Perron? At all...

I know it's time for hockey because I've started singing "Don't Stop Believing" with the words "...born and raised in FUCK DETRIOT!!!"
