Should the Blues wait for the trade deadline?

It is early in the young 2010-2011 NHL season, but how far can the Blues go with their current lineup? the Blues have a plethora of young talent waiting in the minors right now. They remain in the minors for several reasons from just plain not ready to no room on the NHL roster. One thing for sure is our big name players like Backes, Boyes and Oshie have not become the scoring threat management had hopped for them to be.

Ah what to do what to do in order to fix something that is not broken, but not entirely in working order. It is clear that allot of people in management and in the media believe that the Blues do not need a 40-50 goal scorer to compete. Looking back at recent cup winning teams what is the one thing they all had in common? A big name scoring threat. Crosby and Kane are two names that come to mind as guys who lead their teams to victory.

The next question is where do we get a player like that? Well it simply is not going to happen, but there are potential other options. Perhaps a guy like Thomas Vanek could be nabbed from Buffalo for a pick and a few prospect. This would not be in my opinion a mortgage of our future as Vanek is only 26 years old and a proven scoring threat. A 3rd round pick along with a defence man and forward prospect (all of which the Blues have in excess in the minors) could be an enticing Package deal for a team like the sabers who clearly have not gotten better, but declined in their efforts to move in front of the eastern conference pack. Now I am not implying the Sabres are a bad team, but they need a shake up in their locker room. Bringing in a few new hungry prospect might be just what coach Lindy Ruff needs to get them back on track.
