The Springfield Jr. Blues beat the Michigan Warriors 2-0 tonight. Andrew Martin earned his shutout tonight with a fantastic last second glove save to end the 2nd Period. Ethan Nauman scored first for the Jr. Blues at 4:15 in the 2nd with assists from Jack Callahan and Wally Cossette. Callahan followed that at 7:15 with an extra-attacker goal with Mike Fallon and Chris Sitler assisting on that goal. Newcomer Mike Williams (who got his first goal for Springfield in Friday night's 3-2 win against Michigan) had a heck of a fight in the 3rd period. I like the new guy. He's got moxie. The officiating crew needs a little more consistency on icing, though.
This puts the Jr. Blues at a record of 17-13-2 and Michigan at a record of 14-10-2. I think the Jr. Blues are going to make the playoffs with room to spare. They started the season with a six-game losing streak and are now playing some solid hockey. Coaches Andy Maher and Joe Dibble have been very savvy in making trades where needed and have been able to make up for losses to colleges.
Next weekend the Jr. Blues host the St. Louis Bandits. The 2009 NAHL championship team is still very dominant in the North Division, sporting a 21-8-3 record. The Jr. Blues have a 1-4 record this year against the Bandits. In other news, the Jr. Blues still need a mascot that beats the Bandits hockey-playing-raccoon-on-steroids mascot.
So, let's go Jr. Blues.
