Around SBN: Win or Lose, Boston Celtics' New Big 3 Era A Success

Tuesday Links: Submitting applications to be Petro's personal skate sharpener edition

The first games back for Polak and Pietrangelo left plenty to be desired, but there's no doubting that the Blues defensive pairings will be better over the long haul with those two back in the line-up.

Blues News:

  • Dan O' Neill makes a Three Dog Night reference in his latest recap. One is, indeed, a lonely fucking number. [Post-Dispatch]
  • Can Jay McClement beat Atlanta virtually by himself again in their second meeting? That'd be damn nice if it happened. Game starts at 6 tonight. Gather round for an Old Tyme Radio GDT [Blues.com]
  • Jackman and Chase didn't agree on how to handle Joe Thornton's return. [Post-Dispatch]
  • We might be struggling to find W's with all the injuries and lack of offense, but consider where this franchise was a little less than five years ago. Keep in mind we didn't have "Fuck Detroit" back then. [St. Louis Game Time]

NHL News:

  • Might next year be the year for NHL games to return to ESPN? Paul Kelly thinks so. [Puck Daddy]
  • Other netminders, including Panger, weigh in on how to fix Steve Mason for the Blue Jackets. [Columbus Dispatch]
  • Waffles continue to fly in Toronto. [Puck Daddy]
  • Meet Dan Craig, the guy who makes sure the outdoor rinks used for Winter Classics don't suck. [TSN]
  • One punch KO videos always have a special place in my heart. Deryk Engelland takes it to Taylor Pyatt. [Puck Daddy]
  • BizNasty's greatest Tweets. He is the Wayne Gretzky of professional athlete twitter users. [Pensburgh]

Other Stuff:

  • This guide will help you the next time you take a dump internationally. [Where do I put the paper?]
  • This least fascinating people list does not feature Toews. Other than that, I completely agree. [Uproxx]
  • UIWWildthing loves a good NHL '94 reference. This team nailed the old and pixelated celebratory poses like true champions of video game hockey. [BC Local]

Video:

On my list of "Blues Players That I Didn't Expect To Have A YouTube Reel," you'd find Terry Yake somewhere above Christian LaFlamme but below Jim Carey. Interpret that however you'd like.

Anybody else still have Christmas shopping to finish up? Why the hell do I always wait this long? Stupid.

I'm off to go fight traffic and elbow blue-haired ladies who think they're going to beat me to the last hot ticket item in the store.

Looking at that post from 2006..

brings back a ton of memories. This organization has come a long way, and I for one am happy. This team might be slumping right now, but we all have to remember back in the beginning of the season when our team was healthy and was doing great. That’s our team, and it’ll only get better.

I am a procrasti-santa too

But I finished up my shopping online this morning. Kinda early for me but whatever.

I for one am a little tired of the “the team is getting better” meme. On paper they are, no doubt about that. On the scoreboard and in the standings they aren’t. I’m sympathetic to the “it’s the injuries, stupid” line of thinking, and there aren’t many teams who could sustain the number of injuries to top players we have and continue to win consistently, but what happened to the vaunted depth in our team and farm system?

They need to trade Boyes and Berglund, a couple of useless pussies who haven’t contributed forever. If they can get a bag of pucks for them they should take it.

I've got all my shopping done.

But waiting for shit to arrive is like waiting for time bombs to blow up my fucking car.

St. Louis Game Time . . . I need another beer.

I'll Be at the Game in Atlanta Tonight...

Should be a tough/good game tonight. I’ve been to a few other Thrashers games this year, and they’ve been playing really well. It’d be interesting if Mason got the start tonight since Atlanta played last night too.

Speaking of Christmas gifts. I got the tix to the game as my gift to my Dad (and I guess it ends up being a gift to myself to). When we lived in St. Louis for 15 year, we always went to games. We haven’t seen one together in at least 6 years because I moved down to Atlanta for college and the old man and lady moved from the Lou. So he’s driving down today to go to the game with me. We’ll be sitting in section 110 cheering like crazy for the Blue Note. I’m so pumped…haven’t seen the Blues play live since I was in high school

Hey, me too!

Masonry’s slated to start tonight from everything that I’ve heard. Part of me would like to see him finally have a decent game (but still lose) and the other, louder part of me wants to see him let in four goals for the billionth time this season.

I’ll be in section 107 with my folks – it’s their Xmas gift too – I’ll keep my eyes peeled!

That's Awesome Hildy!

Glad I won’t be alone! I’ll be wearing the yellow practice jersey. I think we’re in row E, right near the aisle, I believe it’s dead center behind where Mason will be for the 1st and 3rd periods. I’m siding with the louder part of you and want to see Mason let in at least 4, and there has to be 1 five hole for sure.

Hope to see ya there!

Yake is another Blues player

that returned to make his home in St Louis.
I’d love to know the percentage of players that came through here only to return and stay after their careers were over.
He owns a meat store in O’Fallon MO called T-Bones. All the meat comes from his family’s farm in Canada.

I think I'm done shopping

I keep thinking that I need to do more.
This year there isn’t one Big item for the boys. The last few years it’s been wii, then Nintendo DS for them, small tv for their rooms. Nothing big like that. I feel like I’m letting them down. They want a PS3 or X-box but how many game systems do we need? We have a PS2 and my old super Nintendo. And we couldn’t afford that with games this year anyway.
I know, all you gamers would say all of them.
I still play Donkey Kong and Super Mario on the old Super. I almost bought one of those games for the wii (for the boys of course)

Today I’m off and going to finish wrapping presents since the boys are in school.
Made some sugar cookies this morning already with cinnamon chips. Yummy.

Thursday I’ll be making struffoli, an Italian Christmas tradition treat. I haven’t made it in a few years and I kept seeing little hints. My Grandma died 10yrs ago yesterday and I think she’s sending me a message!

LOL

could be the reason I like him.

He just shows a bit of hunger – a bit of determination. He obviously wants to be in the NHL and is prepared to work his butt off for it.

With the injuries he might get an increased time with the Blues – which is good.

A world without a "Fuck Detroit?"

I refuse to believe it.

I know it's time for hockey because I've started singing "Don't Stop Believing" with the words "...born and raised in FUCK DETRIOT!!!"
