St. Louis Game Time PROSPECT SUNDAYS

Forwards header

Some of the Blues' lesser-known forward prospects moved to the forefront over the last seven days, and one prospect who has led his league in scoring all season remains at the top of the leader board in his circuit.

Center Nicholas Drazenovic (171st overall, 2005) scored a pair of goals, and chipped in an assist as well, despite the Rivermen posting only a 1-2-1 record over the last seven days. The Prince George, BC native tallied Peoria's only goal of the game in a 2-1 SO loss to division-leading Texas on Jan. 31 at home, and scored again on Feb. 5 in a 6-3 win over the Stars in Austin.

Meanwhile, in the United States League, Minnesota-born Max Tardy picked up an unassisted goal in overtime on Feb. 6 to lead the Tri-City (Kearney, NE) Storm to a 3-2 win over the Cedar Rapids (IA) Roughriders. Tardy also tallied a power-play goals for the Storm on Feb. 3 in a 7-5 loss at Green Bay, but was a minus-5 for the game thanks to three goals in 54 seconds by the Gamblers during the first period.

Across the pond, Jori Lehtera continues to lead the Finnish Elite League (SM-Liiga) in scoring at the tender age of 21. The 65th pick overall in 2008 has a solid 18-35-53 scoring line in 43 games for Tappara Tampere, and his plus-4 mark, 50 PIM, and eight power-play tallies speak to his all-around game.

Seems like Nigro is maybe exceeding expectations at this point? His numbers certainly look similar to McRae’s, and they are playing for comparable teams (for the most part.)

Where are the point-per-game players?

Brian, you’re the expert as this stuff: Are the Blues minor leagues just filled with second and third liners? How come nobody is dominating? To me, it’s disappointing that there doesn’t appear to be an impact player in the system.

It seems like Shattock, Jori, Nigro and McRae are the only offensive guys, but I don’t know if I trust those numbers — Sonne last year had ungodly points and hasn’t done the same in Peoria. Are any of those numbers going to translate into the AHL and NHL?

I think it's a mistake to look for "impact players" so soon...

Eller is just a rookie, and making a pretty smooth transition to North America.

Sonne’s numbers last year may have been an aberration, as he was drafted more as a two-way type of player, and was always that kind of guy in the ’Dub until last season.

Shattock, by comparison, has always been an offensive player, and I expect that his numbers will translate to the pros, as soon as next year.

Lehtera came over at the end of last season, and played seven regular-season games and all seven playoff games. He managed an assist in the regular season, and a goal and an assist in the playoffs. That little taste of the North American game should help make him better prepared, and I expect that his numbers will translate to the AHL next year as well.

Nigro is more a two-way guy in junior, like Sonne, so I wouldn’t expect him to be a PPG guy as a pro; he was also a sixth-round pick. McRae, on the other hand, is an offensive guy, so the expectations for offensive output will be, and should be, higher for him.
