Thursday links: Getting ready for the battle of Misso- wait, the Islanders are still in New York? edition
As I write this, a deluge of rain is pouring down outside my apartment. Thunder, lightning — the whole deal. Finally winter is done.
You know what else is done? The Blues break. The Note are back in action tonight against the Islanders. Let's get to the links.
Blues news
- Blues vs. Islanders tonight. It's on Long Island, so don't forget the early start. [Sporting News]
- Paul Kariya is closing strong on the 2009-10 season. He's playing with a purpose ... or a guy who is trying to weasel his way into one more contract. [Belleville News-Democrat]
- The road could be great for the Blues. [St. Louis Post-Dispatch]
-
Do you know this couple? I don't know if I'd admit it. [Joe Sports Fan]
Hockey news
- Wednesday's results. Games we want: Buffalo over Dallas. Check. [Yahoo! Sports]
- Thursday games. Games we want: Thrasher over Columbus, Minnesota over Detroit (again on principal), Ottawa over Cal and Gary, San Jose over Nashville, and ... St. Louis over New York. [Yahoo! Sports]
- Oh to be an Avs fan — Colorado fans are already talking about who they're going to face in the playoffs, not if they will make the playoffs. [Mile High Hockey]
- Like all old people, Mike Modano is afraid of change. [Defending Big D]
- Marc Savard doesn't know where he is, but Matt Cooke won't be suspended for causing that damage. Cam Janssen gets five games ... Matt Cooke gets zero. [ESPN]
- The GM's were discussing heads to the hit, but does it really matter? No. [ESPN]
- Matt Cooke is not popular in Tampa Bay. [TSN]
- Chris Chelios is back in the NHL. He is twice my age. He is old enough to be my father. He remembers playing in the NHL when ads weren't on the boards. Are you trying to tell me that no one else is good enough to suit up for Atlanta? [TSN]
- Stealing logos of pro sports teams is never a good idea. Unless you're a high school sports team. [Puck Daddy]
- Sidney Crosby's stick and glove from the gold-medal game have been found. I knew you couldn't trust Patrice Bergeron. [Yahoo! Sports]
Other links
- I don't know the point of this site, but I figure you fine folks can have some fun with it. [Big-Ass Message]
- Childhood Trauma enjoys this memo. Matt Stone and I do as well. [Letters of Note]
- Photoshop is 20 years old. I'm really only linking to this because it includes my favorite album cover of all time. [Complex]

No powerplay points. time on ice has gone from 12min per game in his first 2 games to 15minutes in his last game.
He also had a shootout goal scored in the lengthy shootout against Vancouver (he went 4th).
It really is Toronto where good players go to die.

I was really
hoping we’d get him back at the trade deadline.

the saddest thing is
I was over on Pension Plan Puppets reading their comments on this morning’s thread.. and they aren’t even mad… just sad sounding and resigned.

Can't wait to
hear Hildy’s comments about Chelios if he plays tonight

Can you weld skates onto a walker?
I guess I understand the whole “leadership!” concept behind it, since the only other guy with big time playoff/Cup experience has been exiled to the press box because he dared question the fact that our coach has the backbone of an amoeba.
That being said, Kulda plays well with Bogosian and looked really sharp when he was up here before the break. But, Kulda’s also been on a line with Cheli. Kulda’s a +39, and Cheli is a +34, so maybe Chelios can pull Bogosian up by his bootstraps.
That being said, he was drafted the year I was born. There’s something embarrassing about him being on the ice tonight. That, and I’ve been conditioned to hate him for so long, this is hurting my head.
Reporter: There`s a "stamp out the Beatles movement" underway in Detroit. What are you going to do about it?
Paul McCartney: We`re going to start a campaign to stamp out Detroit.
I guess "that being said"...
… is my new verbal tic, or else I’m still so high on DayQuil that I don’t pay a damned bit of attention to what I type.

How does Cam get 5 games
and Cooke get nothing.
I hate the idiots in the NHL office

Ohhh, but Cammer's hit was laaaate.
Even though there was no intent to injure and it was probably an accident. But it was late, and you can actually quantify that, sooo…. yeah.
Still bullshit. Cooke’s a cheap shot artist, and if they don’t teach him a lesson, someone will sooner or later on the ice.

I wouldn't say Cam's hit was an accident.
But yeah, if they’re trying to eliminate headshots, Cooke should’ve gotten something.
By accident I meant more of the force...
… than the fact he was hit. I don’t think Cam meant to knock him into next Tuesday. Cooke, well, that was 110% his intent to injure.

if someone
can find the link to the cam jannson quote on twitter, he does say he hits as hard as he can everytime, his intent probably wasnt to injure but shit happens its hockey
Pujols takes out "I" in BIG and "A" in MAC, previously considered to be an unyielding, consonant threat
It's pretty simple, when you break it down scientifically...
Janssen plays for a small-market team with no superstars and no realistic chance at the Cup.
Cooke plays for the reigning champs, who feature OMGSIDCROZBIE
The logo on the front is more important than the medical equipment on the ice.
im calling for colin campbells head
cam janssen gets 5 games for a late blindside hit… not even a head shot… cooke comes right across the middle on savard and drills his shoulder right into his head and the wheel of justice gives him nothing.. WHAT THE FUCK!!!!! are you kidding me… i do not understand one god damn thing this league does…EVER! this league is becoming a joke… they say they wanna do away with headshots and blind side hits but they have a perfect chance to show how serious they are and he gets away with nothing? i dont understand
