I watched the video

on the Ovechkin hit. I don’t think it was dirty per se. A penalty, yes but it wasn’t a cross check, he was 5’ away from the boards and shoved him. There was no intent to injure. I was watching Ovechkin’s face and he knew right away a penalty would be called but I also saw concern.
I don’t really like Ovechkin, I think he can be immature but he plays hard. Has he had some dirty hits? Yep but I don’t think this is one of them.

Root for Cal and Gary over the Wings. It’s the difference between 6 & 7 pts out. Then there is the obvious reason.

ehhhh

not a cross-check, sure. but it was still definitely a dirty board. there was no puck, and campbell was way too far away from the boards (as evidenced by the way he face-planted into them).

from the book: 42.5 Game Misconduct Penalty – When a major penalty is imposed under this rule for a foul resulting in an injury to the face or head of an opponent, a game misconduct shall be imposed….

I think Campbell definitely got his bell rung, so OV deserved the eject … and i’ve been a big supporter of his. the dirty hits and the being a general russian dick are getting old. and there’s a difference between throwing yourself around like a wrecking ball and throwing yourself around recklessly.

i want to see the ovechkin who has fun and jumps like a little kid when he scores a goal — not the one who acts like a pissed off grandpa when he loses.

I think Campbell's collarbone's broken.

Caught it on Twitter, need to find the article. That’s the thing with hits like that. The whiplash of being hit that hard can easily lead to a broken neck on top of that collarbone, unintentional or not.

Reporter: There`s a "stamp out the Beatles movement" underway in Detroit. What are you going to do about it?

broken collarbone. ouch.

I got no problem with the hit

It wasn’t late.
He didn’t use his stick.
Campbell was leaning into him when ovie shoved him.
They were turning towards the net instead of going straight to the boards.
If campbell had held onto the puck and went towards the back of the net then are we still having this conversation?

He raged at the world, at his family, at his life. But mostly he just raged.

by Icion on Mar 15, 2010 4:15 PM CDT up reply actions

I agree on the NOT dirty hit.

1) Campbell lost the edge right when he got hit. This is why he even fell down.
2) Ovechkin hit him less than one second after he got rid of the puck, but from behind at the goal line. It should be 2 for checking from behind at that point.
3) Ovechkin shoved Campbell on the back of his shoulder, not a cross check. I thought that Schultz’s “hooking” call in the 2nd was a much worse hit into the boards that Ovechkin’s.
4) Did Campbell even hit his head? I didn’t think so. That’s what everyone is so up in arms about, because of the recent rule change, and I don’t think it even happened.

2 games for Ovechkin. Somehow that hit was worse than Cooke’s.

wasn't it automatic because of the suspensions rule?

(I might be wrong here)

In other news, DIRECTV and Versus friends again.

by thesystm on Mar 15, 2010 5:21 PM CDT up reply actions

It was not automatic

And the worst thing is the Downie slew foot on Crosby gets nothing. It is one of the worst hockey plays I’ve seen.

Sapposedly

That was in retaliation to a hit on stamkos by the pens. I don’t know firsthand though.

by Icion on Mar 15, 2010 8:03 PM CDT up reply actions

Yes, I heard it was a hit because of Orpick’s hit on Stamkos, but either way that kind of behavior is horrible. Not only is the hit terrible, it’s super late! I can count at least 4 seconds between Crosby dishing the puck and Downie doing his legwrap.

He should be gone for at LEAST 5.

I thought 1 game was automatic

for the third game misconduct in 41 games played by the player.
From what I’ve read this was game #40 in a row.
I expected 1 game

That's what I thought too

but according to SBNation
“Due to a loophole, however, those two suspensions have to be no more than 41 games apart from each other. The game on Sunday was the 42nd game since the Kaleta hit. How timely.”
